Its on the BBC Football website also, under the Gossip tab. I wouldn't mind having him back. He should never of being sold in the first place.

Has to be pointed out he was fairly diabolical for Villa when they came to Anfield this season.

He never lived up to his early billing!! He was great at Coventry but never managed it anywhere else. He's better than what we have but not by far. I would n't bother!!

I'd definitely have had him ahead of Konchesky in the summer but not now.A good left back but too rash to ever be top 4 material which is what we should be aiming for.We need to stop ****ing about with stop-gaps and spend decent money on an undisputed first choice LB to have the position sorted for the next 4-5 years.

If he wasn't a red previously nobody would bat an eyelid in his direction. Probably better than Konchesky but not much in it.

Agree with you Howie, but can you think of any quality left backs whom we can spend decent money on?. There aint many quality left backs out there, let alone many if any who will want to move to us.

If we had on been in the ball last year, we would have both future england right and left back , in kyle walker and kyle nughton but spurs got both for under 10mill,which is a steal considering their age.

Also they were both playing week in ,at sheff utd before they left for spurs.

There's not very many quality left backs out there really.Mathieu at Valencia has always impressed me when I've seen him and he'd be a semi-realistic signing.Aogo at Hamburg could also be a good shout but he's still quite raw.Same goes for Criscito but I think he only moved to Genoa in the summer and I've not seen much of him.

There's plenty of them out there who are great at bombing on and attacking but not so great at defending.(Taiwo/Tremoulinas at Bordeaux/Coentrao)We already have one of them on our right side.Cissoko can do a bit of both and would be my preferred signing but can't see it happening any time soon.

Would kill for a left sided Steve Finnan. This is where Comolli needs to earn his money.

A loan surely wouldn't be a bad deal. A full back who can tackle would be nice for a change

Usually when he tackles the net result is a yellow or red card
and a Penalty to boot.

He does pick up a lot of yellows but has only been sent off once. Would rather face Aurelio or Konch if I was a right winger.

I liked him and was dissapointed we let him go in the first place but tbh, he hasn't been great since he left us. Average enough player but certainly not the standard we should be looking at imo.

we need to be signing a world class left back, that will help move liverpool back to the top of the table. The rebuilding needs to start now, if players are not going to improve us, then stick with what we have got, until the right player is identified.

The only thing is , can they afford to splash out 20 odd million on a player . At least warnock would be an improvement over paul konchesky . The quicker we send him on a permanent holiday the better

The thing is, why spend another 3-6 millio on a stop gap, and then have to pay 20 million to get the real deal in the end anyway. If you take Konchesky and Dossena and potential signing of Warnock we're looking at having spent 15 million an average left back.

Warnock, Adam, Cole. Fcuk me its depressing

Not so long ago we wanted Alves, Negrado and David Silva. Time to stop plugging gaps. Get the extra 5-6 million out on signings and get quality again. back to signing pepe rather than Tim Flowers. Torres rather than John Stead. People at the top wanna remember who they bought, sub standard is not good enough.

Fans need to raise expectation or we'll fade into a midtable side in no time.

Think their going to bring in a world class striker and leftside midfielder ... Any one else will be just stop gaps until they bring more world class players in the summer

another shrewd move if we brought some experianced cover in at left back,he went to the world cup instead of baines, warnock isnt a bottler and will get stuck in,Our defence for the the last fe weeks has been much to easy to bypass..

Warnock hmm. Aurelio should be 1st choice and Konchesky can see out the rest of the season as back up. Where would Warnock fit in this?

Much more worrying though are the Downing links...

Hardly surprising, when the ball can just be shepherded out he'll jump in with both feet.

Because of the bookings though i'm sure it just means he's british and cares more .

Aurelio is to injury prone and not able to play enough games on the trot for us to be depending on Konchesky as backup. Get Warnock in till the end of the season get rid of Konchesky asap and see how Warnock goes. This window concentrate on getting a top strikern in and maybe a winger and in the summer decide weather Warnock was good enough and bring in a top left back

BBC 5 Live Senior Football Reporter Ian Dennis on Twitter: "Told Stephen Warnock will tie up return to Liverpool from Villa in next few days. Loan with view to permanent deal."

Derekc

Stephen Warnock's return to Liverpool is on the verge of collapse due to Aston Villa's loan conditions.

Gérard Houllier has refused to allow sentiment to cloud his judgement and has demanded that the Reds pay a £500,000 fee for the defender in addition to his full salary until the end of May.

Liverpool will not agree to the terms outlined by the Midlands outfit which hasdleft a move for left-back Warnock, who left Anfield for Blackburn in January 2007, on the rocks.

The 29-year-old has fallen out of favour at Villa Park following last month's 4-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City and has been training with the club's reserve squad since.

On the left back position we have 3 in the club Aureilo Konchesky and Insua if he comes back
Konchesky is not up to it
Insua is on Loan
Aureilo is on a pay as you play contract.

My thinking is Kenny will play Magic there until a new contract with Aureilo is sorted and then next year work on insua as i think he is young and could be quite capable as a left back with a good left winger in front of him.

Im on the husky side to say the least and id be confident of skinnig insua, he will never make it here
