With Liverpool on the verge of sealing a deal for Fernando Torres, another high-profile Spanish-speaking star could well be on his way to Anfield.

Unsettled Villarreal star Juan Roman Riqelme, currently on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America and also on-loan to hometown club Boca Juniors, is being tracked by the Reds.

Backed by the millions of new American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, Liverpool are upping their spending power in a bid to join Chelsea and Manchester United in the title race next season and playmaker Riquelme would be an excellent addition to the midfield.

His arrival could be helped by the departure of Luis Garcia – who plays a similar role to the Argentinean's favoured position – after a move back to his native Spain as part of the Fernando Torres deal was confirmed today.

Great player, wouldn't say no to him at all but his attitude might be questionable

undoubted quality at times but I think he bottles it on the big occasions- remember crucial penalty misses for Villareal and he bombed at barca. Depends on the price etc of course. He can unlock defences though!!

Always thought he was considered too slow for Liverpool or the Premiership.

Undoubtedly a quality player but would be Benitez be willing to play him behind the main striker and sacrifice the fact that Riquelme is not going to track back, tackle and work hard defensively.

He will only be wasted on the wing if they played him there.

I agree. He'd be completely wasted on either wing. He would be a quality signing though. Can't see it happening though!!!!! :(

I think Saviola on a free would be a better option, he is a lot younger and has lightning pace, can't belive more clubs are not in for him

Was always surprised we never picked up either Ayala or Aimar in the past.

I think the Premiership is too fast for Riquelme which is a pity

He is a joy to watch though for the Argies
