Over the last week or so we have been targeted by spammers trying to make accounts, thankfully none have got through my net and were able to post. But its a pain having to go through them all (about 100 new accounts per day).

So I am closing the site to new members while I look into improving the registration system so I can maybe filter more of them out even before they register.

Its basically a computer program setup to register new accounts on sites, then post a link to porn or whatever. They get paid per click.

An enter caption facility should solve your problems

We taught about that before but the feeling was it would lock out to many people.I will sort this when I have the time to go through it proper.

Paul,

What about a simple question in the sign on process, such as something like this.

'Please tell is in no more than 30 words why you support the reds?'

The question thing is a option I may try, something simple like how many time have we won the league.I mean if you don't know that you should not be a member of here anyway.

Very simple to implement as well.

E-mail approval is prob a good way to go, the person registering would have to click a link from a e-mail that they receive when ty register to complete the registration

Have that in place already as part of the current system and still getting over 100 of these ****s a day.

If there is a obvious theme with the e-mail address maybe manual approval of registrations? If you got a few bodies together it might not be that time consuming

Might be a temp solution till you think of another way

There clever lil b*stards with these spam programmes.
I have the same crap on my sites also Paul.

I dont know is there a coding that could combat any well recognised domain name wording (eg @viagra.com)

I'll do some searching about.

.tv and most other premier league sites have a kind of outside page with "enter here", I presume this is to stop spammers, hackers etc. I'm no techie but there could be something in that.
