Liverpool will attempt to land Ajax striker Luis Suarez this month as the club's new owners prepare to hand significant funds in the transfer window in the hope of igniting a push towards the top six.

Damien Comolli has earmarked a move for the Uruguayan international who is apparently keen on leaving the Eredivisie club following the departure of boss Martin Jol last month.

Roy Hodgson had been hoping to bring in some new attacking options and is linked with moves for a number of potential additions and will hope that a bid in the region of £18m will make Ajax consider selling their star striker. The Amsterdam club had been hoping to secure around £30m for the 23 year old but may accept less as they attempt to resolve massive debts they have accrued.

Suarez is currently serving a seven game suspension for biting an opponent and is reportedly very unhappy with life at Ajax and will hope to force an exit and a move to the Barclays Premier League apparently interests the former Groningen man.

Liverpool will be looking to bring in potential signings to take some of the goalscoring burden from Spaniard Fernando Torres and Hodgson and Director of Football Damien Comolli may well see Suarez as an ideal partner for the Anfield striker.

Tottenham and Arsenal are also said to be interested in the Ajax marksman who has netted a phenomenal 110 goals in three and a half seasons at the club.

Would be a top draw addition , very surprised if sold for under £23m more like what I thought NESV would want to sign

IMO NESV have the cash and once a player fits their profile they will bid what they think is right even if's £30m+

I know it's stupid transfer season but Tottenham are linked with every single player we're linked with.

This fella is a loose cannon but he'd bang in the goals I think.
    He'd be a great signing

He looks the part alright, quick feet and a good shot....i'd take the gamble, only thing is that he seems to be greedy with the ball and dont think he could play with Torres....might be one or the other

No doubting his credentials as a goalscorer, he has outgrown Ajax IMO at this stage, scoring rate is phenomenal, abeit in a poorer league, had a great World Cup mind.

I think our new owners will be keen to do their business quietly and then let the press know once the deal is done. At least thats the way the Red Sox have handled their bigger buys in recent seasons.

think this lad would be a quality addition but I cant see it happening, as another poster said why choose us at the moment if he can get CL with Spurs or Arsenal.:(

Is he not cup tied from the CL anyway? And theres no guarantee Spurs or Arsenal will have it next season or do well in it if there, where as Liverpool have aproven European pedigree, and once we get back in we wont be getting out of it easy, plus there is more competition for places at Arsenal and Spurs, so he would be better off choosing us for long term ambition, rather than 1 maybe 2 seasons of CL football max with Spurs, and not getting a game at Arsenal. Also signing him would show we mean business.

Anyway thats my take on it. :)

Would be great signing for us but as previous poster said, cant see him coming under current form and outlook.

Saying that win our 2 games in hand and European football looks more promising again for next year

Would expect big bucks would be needed to pull Suarez in

Agree , but the lure of playing for us is still there but we need to get our act together before the lure starts to fade .

IMO Ajax will look for more than £18m , but IMO £15-18m is about right.

Yeah I agree, they'll defo look for more than £18m but id guess around £22m may get him but as mentioned before I can't see us getting him based on surrent form and the uncertainty over Roy.

Another good player who would be a more exciting prospect than Zamora, Elmander, Cole and Dempsey. Doubt we have that sort of cash to throw about. I fear we will end up with nothing despite the promises made by the new owners when they took over. A lot of supporters really think we'll be splashing out but it is unlikely. There are plenty of players available and had we the cash we needed to move quickly to try and resurrect the season. The longer we go without any transfer action the less likely we will get that superstar we were all promised and we really need.
