I am heading over with my brother to the ManU game on the weekend of 15-16 December. Trouble is that we are flying in on Friday night and have all day Saturday to kick about before the match on Sunday. And we don't really want to drink ourselves silly as we will have Friday & Saturday nights and all day Sunday for that. As we have already done the Liverpool stadium tour and have really done all the touristy stuff (that we would be interested in) in the city itself, we are thinking of heading to another Premier League match. The only realistic choices are Wigan v Blackburn or Man City v Bolton; both matches are less than an hour away by train; doesn't look too difficult to get tickets for either match. I guess I am asking has anybody had any experiences going to either venue for a match? How easy is it to get to the stadium? What is the atmosphere like? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'll be there all day saturday too and when I read that at first I thought 'that;s a good idea, go see a game'. Then I just thought 'nah, screw it, I'll drink myself silly!!!!' I;d go the City game too out of the 2 of them
Wigan has a great night life. They hate Scousers, even tho half the town is Scouse. They didn't have eleccy before they arrived. No problems getting into the match.....Biggest queue there is for Pies
I'd go to the Wigan game myself, nice stadium, friendly enough town. I was at the Bolton game last week and if I never see Wanderers play again it will be too soon.
Went to wigan there 4 weeks ago, nothing special there to be honest. Id go to city if i were you, nice stadium and they are playing nice football
Decided it wasn't worth the hassle and extra expense to see a match that at the end of the day we wouldn't have been terribly interested in, though it would have been different. The only English ground (other than Anfield) I have been to is Elland Road about 8 years ago to see Leeds in their Heyday. We have decided to stay in Liverpool and drink ourselves silly after all.
Just a bit annoyed with ourselves now; a 5-3 and a 3-2. They would have been some matches to have been at. Oh well, we had a great time in town on Saturday, though we didn't roll out of our beds until after 12:00 (we got in at 05:30 that morning). Probably just as well that we didn't go to another match!!!
