I'm not having a dig at anyone here(although the Tevez thread did get me thinking about it) but I was wondering what peoples views on this subject were. No-one wants to go back to the days when people were openly discriminated against because of race, gender, sexuality etc. But do you think we've gone too far the other way. For instance- my job doesn't have a Christmas tree in the main concourse for fear off offending other religions. I spoke to a guy a couple of years back who was told to hire someone because he was a minority and not because hecwas the best man for the job. This one is a personal opinion but I think the fact that panos on the apprentice was gay helped him get further in the process. I thought he was useless for weeks but got to the semi final. Anyway,I'm interested in other peoples views on this.
HR in my place wouldn't sack a lad who was useless at his job because they didn't want to be seen to fire a black man. Some of the PC stuff has gone mad imo.
I don't really agree with making fun of a particular persons disability or disfigurement on a public forum. However, each to their own, and personally, anything goes when it comes to jokes in private conversation. Its totally ridiculous. If a xmas tree or crucifix offends someone, its their problem not ours. I don't get offended when I go to foreign countries and they have religous symbols all over the place, I respect them... and people coming to this country should do the same. I heard in maternity hospitals here, they had to change all the wall posters that promoted breast feeding because a 'picture of a womans breast was offensive' This happens in USA all the time. Many buisnesses and corporations have to reacha quota of minority employees. The world is a fcuked up place.
I think it's gotten to a point now in the US where it's gone a little too far. Didn't Jerry Seinfeld issue a statement on equal rights a while back where he slated a lot of things?
