This is a post tonight on OTK by a fan who lives near HLH and looks after Bobs memorial and I thought I'd share it with you. The Hughie she mentions is Bobs brother who a few off IK have met.

I have been to Hetton today and thought you might like to see these pictures.
I put a Christmas wreath on the memorial for all of us in time for those who are going there tomorrow. Then I thought that it might get pinched so the very very nice lady from the Dragonfly florist, opposite the park, where I got it agreed to keep it in the shop tonight and she’ll put it back again in the morning. I thought that was lovely of her. She also made the Hillsborough wreath for us last year.
The snow in the park is about 6 inches deep and there’s slush and snow all over the pavements and roads. For this reason, I don’t think Hughie will make it on his scooter. It has started to thaw out now and the main roads are OK to get there but you’re going to need your thermals and boots on, don’t want anyone getting their nice new trainers ruined.
Hope you all have a good drink in Hetton and we batter the mags.

Yeah I think Hugie is around 90 years young. He doesn't live too far away from the memorial and goes over a few times a week to see it. That one fact in itself makes all the hard work we all did well worth the effort.

Funnily enough I've just been looking at pictures of when we went last year and Hughie turned up to see us - what a treat that was and all the lads and lasses were made up to see him. He told me he doesn't drink these days but he's pretty sure he could get six Guinness in his scooter basket :)

I remember when we were up there last year,I nipped over to the local flower shop and on the way I see this old fella on his way in to the park on a scooter.
I immediately wondered to myself was it bob's brother cos I knew he still lived in the area.
When I got back over to the memorial with the flowers he was there with all the lads, got introduced to him and told him it was an absolute privilege to meet him and that his brother was an amazing man.
I don't know how often he goes down to the memorial but I'd say it fills him with great pride to see it and even more so when the fans stop off en route to a game.
Looking forward to heading back up to see it again, there could be another pilgrimage on the cards.. ;)
Great pic by the way Ian..

I posted this same thread on RAWK and, as is usually the case, a lovely Bob Paisley story has cropped up from someone called JCM which I thought I'd share here. For those who are unaware, Bobs wife Jessie was a teacher in an area of Liverpool called Garston...

Thanks for posting that, I've never seen that memorial. When I was a wee lad in St Mary's Infants in Garston, Jessie Paisley always arranged for her husband Bob to dress up as Father Christmas. All the kids then got to sit on Bob's knee and get their prezzies. It was customary to pull down his beard and say 'Hello Bob!' - as everyone knew who it was - great memories....

Brilliant story that and one thats new to me :)
