    Folks
    I have a bit of a dillemma

With the bad weather we are having my sky is on the blink

Starting yesterday just as the match was kicking off 3E was gone then one by one all the channels starting going and by 11 bells last night i had nothing.

Left both boxes powered off all day today until 7 this evening switched them back on and the same thing no signal

Rang them tonight and they done some trouble shooting crap and nothing worked they said they will send out an engineer to look at it but it will be tuesday before they can get here,

Does anybody know if there is anything i can do or anybody i can call to come out tomorrow to fix it im gonna go off my rocker if i have no tv for the weekend, Im gonna have to talk to the wife and that never ends pretty :D

    Any help or advice appreciated

Check the LNB on the dish mate,if there's any snow on it it'll damage the reception.
If not it might've got water in it and Ye might need a new one.not sure if they can get water damaged but I have seen people cover them with plastic..

    Hi

Assuming you've turned off the power to the system first ...

While your up on the ladder having a look at the LNB, unscrew the cable going into the LNB, give it a quick wipe with a cloth, then screw it back into the LNB nice and tight, then cover with some fresh electrical tape, to help waterproof the connection. Make sure you don't move the LNB itself from where it's pointing, in the process - you shouldn't do this however, as long as it's screwed in nice and tight.

Likewise, check the back of your Sky box to ensure all cables are connected, fitting in nice an tight etc.

Then turn the box on, go to the features and check the signal strength - if there's no signal then odds are, its one of the following problems:

    - Satellite Dish has become misaligned, and needs to be repointed correctly back to face the satellite

    - LNB is bust

    - Sky Box has a fault

(I'd guess the odds are in favor of the problems being most likely in the order I've put them in above).

If Sky do have to send an engineer and you've been with Sky over a year, without any upgrades or discounts from them, then point blank refuse to pay for any work done - just tell them they either fix it or lose their customer and you'll go to UPC or something. With a bit of negotiation, you should end up either getting sorted out for free or getting a bit of an upgrade or something thrown in as part of a deal.

    Hope the above helps mate.

Sky use Sierra to do work here for them in Dublin. Had them out about a year ago after the dog chewed through cable out back. Two minutes work putting cable together with a connector cost me €100! Disgraceful, at least UPC are free!
