A Liverpool fan who scammed fellow supporters out of thousands of euro by organising a bogus trip to Anfield is facing prison if he doesn't compensate them, writes Brian McDonald. Jonathan Farrell (25), of Merlin Park Lane, Galway, admitted at Galway Circuit Criminal Court to five sample counts of theft of varying amounts of money in January of last year. Garda Evelyn Barrett said that Farrell had got between €200 and €300 from several people on the basis of providing tickets for the Liverpool versus Chelsea matches, along with flights and hotels. Judge Raymond Groarke adjourned sentencing for two years, by which time he wanted to hear that Farrell was crime free and making a real effort to compensate his victims.
The pr1ck, sitting in the local pub afterwards drinking and laughing. Kids crying at the airport when he never showed
Do you mean after the court hearing Maj ? If so, the judge needs to be told about this immediately, if there's any justice in this bloomin' country, this cannot be tolerated ... If anything, a thief should usually do jail time - unless it's stealing for food to eat or something obviously.
No Garrett , not after the case. Not long after he got caught. Not a bother on him Cheeky fcker actually turned up at the airport on the day and tried to blame another lad who had travelled earlier that morning. Dragged his name through the mud. (guy was totally innocent) Gambling problem I think he had. Was only talking about this last week, the guy he tried to blame worked with a lad I work with
What a pr1ck .... Gambling problems, drink or drug addiction .... it seems every criminal who gets caught these days has some sort of a problem or addiction, any old sh1t to try and get sympathy for them - remember recently we heard the same about that solicitor who had taken millions from his client account in Dublin ! This lad needs to do some "hard time" in a jail cell with a fellow inmate
its bad enough hes swindling but leaving the kids heart broken like that is the lowest thing going.mate of mine brought his young lad over for the blackpool game he said the excitement went on for weeks so ya can imagine how these kids felt.
the poor child,he'll never go back again.. seriously though that was bad form from that lad,ye don't fcuk people over like that.
A guy in Derry did something similar for the Man Utd game at Anfield in '95. He had arranged for the coach load to collect their tickets from him in the Adelphi 3 hours before the game but never appeared. Never heard of him since but havn't forgotten his name. Thankfully I wasn't affected but I know a few that were. Not a pleasant experience for them.
