Media are building the venue decision to be between England and the Spain/Portugal bid. The overdramatics that are Sky Sports News start their build up at 6am with the 'Outstanding' England presentation at 10am.

Winning bid to be announced at 3pm. 12 votes needed, with England the bookies favourites.

Not a good night for crowd trouble being reported from St. Andrews......

If England won would we get government funding for a new/re-developed stadium?

Obviously not pay for the whole thing, but surely they'd have to invest a fair percentage since the FA and British economy would be benefitting from LFC's facilities.

Why would they bring it to Ireland when the UK has about 30 top class stadiums

It happens all the time sure, I'd be expecting some funding, and I could see Spurs, Brum and a few others slap a bill in too...

Saw earlier that that is one area that the England bid is not strong on - training facilities. Found that hard to believe. Anyway could be good for some venues here if they win the rights to stage 2018.

If they do win the bid you can be almost guaranteed the Republic wont qualify to play in it! Most times it comes geographically close to us we dont make it.

They were saying on SSN news that England were favourites. That is obviously just in England because I checked a couple of foreign bookies early and Russia were

Think Ninja was talking about Liverpool not Ireland. I made the same mistake, thought he was being ironic. Don't know why!
Will be ridiculous if Russia get it above England. They would have to build 13 new stadiums, Moscow and Kiev are 2 of the most expensive cities in the world and also has basically been declared a mafia state as no one can tell where the government ends and the mafia start in terms of who is making the decisions.
But of course Sepp and sense don't go hand in hand

To be honest England would be nice from personal point of view cause could even do day trips if Ireland qualify. Could live with Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Holland too.

In fairness Ireland hardly ever make it to the finals of any tournament, regardless of geographical location!

When they do make the World Cup finals its in far off destinations like USA 94 and Japan/S Korea 02 and missed out on near destinations like France 98 and Germany 06 - Italy 90 being the exception.

it would be some boost to Ireland if England were to get it. Could see a fair few teams setting training camps up here before the tourney and could see alot of supporters basing themselves here, or at least traveling through Dublin to get to England I'd imagine it would be cheaper.

I love the way the english rpess are painting it that if england dont get it, its been a fix and bribed - like who the fook do they think they are. I saw Lord Coe who got themt he olimpics on the tv last nite saying england has more worldwide coverage than any of the other countries and ahs to get it for that reason.

Like does he think they dont have ****ing tv's in spain and portugal as well - what a cock!
