Went out last night to clear the snow from car and my rear windscreen was shattered, any ideas how much to repair? Does the insurance cover it the same as windscreen replacement? (doubt it).

some companies do cover the windows, not just the windscreen. Maybe give them a shout and see if they do and if so does it affect your policy

I'd ask a local windscreen repair place if they would just stick it down as a windscreen and say nothing;) What harm can it do?

Be careful using your windscreen cover because with certain insurance companies you lose your no claims bonus

I have had side windows on my car both replaced under windscreen cover during the years - didn't affect NCB. Can't remember who I was with at the time. Likely Hibernian - now Aviva.

Said i'd head into work for a couple of hours today, I only work ten mins from the gaf but the fcukin car overheated on the way in and broke down!

Anyone any tips on what I should do before leaving it here for the crimbo? There was no hot air coming out of the vents inside the car at the time and the alternator light came on at the end and the power went from the car after the stress it was under. I assume the engine was simply frozen and now i've fcuked it up?

Luckily I had taken the other halfs car:D, its a ford focus........

    LMAO :D :D :D

    ... I like it ;)

I'd leave it there mate, give it a try sometime tomorrow afternoon or the afternoon of the next day, once this famous big thaw hits you might get lucky.

Failing that, odds are you'll get no one out to look at it / tow it, without paying a few hundred lids over the next 24-48 hours anyway so not much to lose by giving it a bit of time.

    Hope it works out OK.

From the way you discribe it its frozen and the alternator wasnt turning so your battery died before you could do any major harm to the engine. You need to check fan belt when you get a chance. If it is frozen there is frost bungs on the block which should pop out when the thaw comes you need to look out for these.

Talking about broken cars, just a reminder to everyone to turn off their wipers when they are getting out of the car. The wife left her wipers on, came out the next day turned the car on, the wipers tried to move didn't, cause they were frozen to the window, and blew the bloody motor

yeah its a good idea to sweep off the snow and ice and lift the wipers every morning when it freezes hard

And when your getting back in... Shut the door before you put them back on.

I was up at 6.30 the other had to do a few things, freezing cold, pitch black, still asleep, opened the door, sat feet out on the driver seat turned the wipers on and became basically a snowman. Needless to say I was extremely annoyed.
