View Full Version : Realistic Transfer Targets

I've had enough of the shite on the other thread, "we should buy suarez and lopez and sure throw in messi".

We should be looking at realistic targets, not targets that are going to cost in excess of 30million each, we could get maybe 1 30million player, every other signing will have to be a good cheap buy.

Kevin Doyle
Ashley Young
Phil Jones.

These would be my 3 transfer targets.

Kevin Doyle(Wolves) would be an ideal foil for torres, is big and strong, can hold up the ball, wins 9 out of 10 headers, hich would flick the ball on to torres, he is also a very intelligent player and i reckon he would work wonders with Torres. not taking anything away from Ngog, but it would be nice to have a choice between Torres and either Doyle or Ngog.

Ashley Young,(Aston Villa) i dont think i even need to explain Young, he's an out an out winger, would play well with Gerrard and Meireles feeding balls out to him, i know he cuts in a lot of the time but that could be rectified, also, with Kuyt on on wing and him on the other they could change sides every so often.

Phil Jones(Blackburn) He's young, is playing well every week, albeit at blackburn, is big, strong and can play both Midfield and Defence.

NOTE: Juan Mata may also be realistic with Babel moving in the opposite direction and no monies involed.

25M for Young, 10M for Doyle and arond 5M for Jones, Thats 40M

Sell Babel 8M, Jovanovic 2M, Poulsen 4M, El Zhar 1M, Degen 1M, Spearing 1M Insua 3M and Aquilani 12M, Thats, AT LEAST, 30M without the owners dipping into their pockets at all. Id expect at least 30M+ for those players, maybe more, BUT no less!

10M from the owners and we could be set with

Goalkeepers: Reina, Jones
Defenders: Johnson, Kelly, Carra, Agger, Wilson, Jones, Skrtel, Kyriagos, Aurelio, Konchesky
Midfield: Young, Maxi, Kuyt, Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles, Cole, Pacheco, Shelvey,
Forwards: Torres, Ngog, Doyle

That, in my opinion would be a good squad of players. And gets a lot of unnecessary baggage off the wage bill.

What do ye think?

i think doyle and young are decent shouts. I'd like to see more of Phil Jones first. I Like Gary Cahill myself.

Regards players to get rid of i'd pretty much go along with them. I still think we'd be short quality LB and possibly centre mid.

Well Phil Jones can play both Central Midfield and defence, and as for left back, number 1 and 2 would be PK and Aurelio, with Agger as back up

Id love to see Young been signed , can see him going for around £15-18m as only 18 months left on his contract.

Samba
SWP
Suarez

Could probably pick those 3 up for 20million. I'd prefer Hangeland and Young but not sure they'd be what you'd term affordable.

New left back, new centre half, creative midfielder and striker please.

Wayne Bridge, Gary Cahill, Ryan Shawcross, Adam Johnson, David Bentley, Kevin Doyle, Benzema and Gomes.

I just hope that the new owners don't go back on promises and fail to give out cash for signings in January. i see no reason why none of the above wouldn't be available. Man City will be bringing in more big money signings so Bridge and Johnson could go. Bolton, Wolves and Stoke will always find it hard to refuse big money offers. Real Madrid and b Munich have both suggested that these players can go if the right offer comes in.

Add to that list Sakho, Samba and Danns. They are all promising centre backs.

Would love any of the following realistic targets.Ashley Young,Gary Cahill,Marko Marin,Brede Hangeland,Elia.

Wouldn't welcome Wayne bridge,David bentley,Carlton Cole or Kevin Doyle as I don't believe they're good enough.

i likes doyle and wouldn't mind him myself but i don't think i'm being objective on him because he's irish.

Should be noted that lost among all the pyrotechnic offensive firepower on display at Anfield that Rennes LW Sylvain Marveaux was present.
Reports indicate Marveaux was in directors box - usually portends imminent signing, although after that game he might change his mind.

I agree with the above, the squad is nowhere near good enough but think it'll be summer before you see that many changes.

Priorities have to be 1 centre back 1 left back and a winger (left if possible). Cant see us signing more than 2 or 3 in Jan.

Agree with young and maybe Doyle as he is strong and can hold a ball up and bring others into the game dont know enough about Jones although he does look a big lad, But what about Roger Johnson or Scott Dann at birmingham cosidering dann is massive liverpool supporter he might give more passion than some of the crap we already have

i'd be a bit worried about either dann or johnson, my feeling is that the sum of the parts is the issue there and that they just click like rio and vidic, and taht if one played without the other they may not be that good at all - remember that even phil babb looked liek a decent centreback when playing beside paul mcgrath...not saying that they wouldnt be a good shout but i just have my worries. Huth or shawcross would eb fine coz they have been ok with whatever partner theyve played with, gary cahill likewise but i think martin kelly is gonna be our no1 centreback in the nest few years - he's a natural centerhalf, quick enough, excellent in the air and brave. he's actually the best thing outta our academy in years

I said this at the start of the season and Ill say it again. We need a Left back, CB, Wingers with Pace and two new strikers. and I mean out and out strikers. LB is tricky cuz there aint mant decent ones about. CB - Hangeland, Shawcross, Samba (maybe), Wingers- Elia, Young, Pranjic. Strikers eto'o, Pavvy, Gomes, Carroll.

As for a team we could put together

................Reina...................
Glen..Carra...Hangeland..Aureilo
Cole...meireles...Stevie...Elia
........Torres.................
.................Carroll..............

Im off to play Fifa now cuz thats the only place ill see a team like that :D

Seen a few posts suggesting we'd recieve a couple of million for insua but is he not out of contract at the end of the season?

I know a lot of players are playing abysmally at the moment but I don't think the overhaul needs to be as radical as people are making out. Some quality signings to freshen things up,coupled with a new manager that gets the players playing with confidence in a system that suits them and is willing to take a chance on some of the younger players and things could definitely start moving in the right direction.

I think it's obvious we need players who can give us genuine width and pace, and a striker. This season is probably going to be a right off so why not start giving more game time to Kelly and Wilson. I'd like to see us pay for a top striker like aguero and a quality winger like young as opposed to going out and spending the money on 6 or 7 players who could go either way. I'm probably dreaming but until we know what kind of money is available then why not.

We need an entire new squad. The lack of hunger on Wednesday night was embarrassing not to mention at many other times this year bar a handful of players the rest of the team dont even look like their trying. Before we start buying in January though we need to sort out a new manager so he can buy who he wants cause lets face it Roy wont be here for the long haul.
