After reading various newspapers yesterday, the budget is not going to a good one for anyone thinking of buying a new car (Espically with a bit of power). Revamped VRT and increase in Car Tax by 10%.

In my opinion, Tax on driving(pollution) should be included in the price of petrol. Someone who has a 1.6 and drives 5k miles a year, pawill pay almost 450 euro next year, someone who has a 1.6 and drives 50k a year pays the same.

There is talk of tax credit increase and changes to the bands, but this is only in line with inflation.

Did not see anything in relation to the most important thing, increase in price of pint :eek:

Pay as you use, I fully agree. Same with bins, water etc. Flat rates suck!

Its a disgrace when you work out the allowance for 2 married people the tax band does not come close to a single persons & don't even get me going on childcare for my wife to go out to work we would have to supplement her wage to cover childcare costs hence why she is a homemaker.

Addressing environmental issues Minister Cowen announced that the Government will be changing the way that VRT is determined.

For cars registered form 2008 onwards VRT will be determined by carbon emissions rather than engine size. Cars which emit more carbon will be subject to more VRT.

There will also be an increase in motor taxation. Cars with an engine size under 2 litres will see their tax increased by 9% and those over 2 litres will face an increase of 11%.
