Any petrol heads on here, im changing my misuss's clapped out 96 multi colored micra for her for xmas and ive it narrowed it down 4 car choices

    1) a 99-00 focus
    2) a 01 mondeo
    3) a 01-02 laguna
    4) a 99-00 passat
All 3 are in the €1500 price range and there is plenty of them on the market, i had a focus myself a few years ago but was in an accident in one and was scared by how easy it folded and my current car is a passat so im fairly familiar with them, just wondering if there is any petrol heads on here that could point me in the right direction as to which is the better car

    cheers

all modern enough cars are ok providing you look after them and dont drive them into the ground. Of course things will go wrong from time to time but as long as theyre fixed properly most 00 cars onwards will go for another 10 years. Then again there are so many people out there who dont look after them that you just have to be lucky

I think it's worthwhile getting in touch with eoinlfc as he's in the trade, he should give you better advice than we can. However my only bit of advice to bear in mind is the engine size and costs that will bring with it like Petrol, Cost of Tax, Insurance etc...

Best of luck with your search!

Your going from a 1lt Micra to a 1.4/1.6lt - that will be a big difference in running costs.

Personally, I would go for a Toyota. If you want to go for a bigger engine then go for the Corolla. I've had several, never any trouble, economical and their resale is excellent.

Fair enough. If you want a 1.6lt then Id go for the Avensis - lovely car to drive and very roomy. And no, I dont work for Toyota!! I just think that the Japanese cars offer a little extra in features that make all the difference.
