Xmas presents for youself

Right im in a rut on what to get of my missus for xmas,i dont really need any thing,so i was in smyths the other and seen a telescope and told her to get me that as ipod or iphone is working out to dear,so is there any star gazers out there and they any use?

I don't know much about telescopes but my first question I'd put to you is. Where do you live?

If you live in a city or even a town, you'll not get much use of a telescope. There will be too much light. If you're in a rural area though, go for it.

 

thats what i was thinking also,im in tallaght.

 

My mates older brother has a telescope and when it wasn't cloudy at night he would take it out and be showing us the planets. Think the planets were Saturn( the 1 with the running track), Venus and Mars, could be wrong. But it was good but I personally can see myself getting bored with it.

 

What about a bit of lady watching Now you cant do that in the countryside.

 

Get in touch with astonomy Ireland. They will put you right and inform you of special nights they have. Think they meet regularly in the park

My mate got the national geographic telescope for his birthday in june its pretty good i can find out info about it if you like?jupiter is visible with the naked eye sometimes youl see its moons with the telescope its class!interesting fact too saturns moon Titan methane exists as a gas,liquid and solid..madness oceans of methane!

 

If you really don't want anything can i suggest a turkey, donkey or something like that from Concern or Oxfam. Its a great cause and always gets a smile when you tell people that the wife got you a donkey for christmas but he's out on loan ....... sound familiar ??? ;-)
