Guys - any mechanics on the site? I'm looking for a cat for a 03 1.6 VVTI Automatic Toyota Corolla 5 Door for my father in law. Anyone know the best place? I've come across one garage but they only sell second hand ones, and I believe one should only buy a cat new (is that true?).

Before you buy make sure its the cat and not something like an o2 sensor etc. Genuine cats can be very expensive, maybe try your local motor factors for a price on a spurious one? Also I wouldnt be too quick to dismiss a second hand one if its been taken out of a low miler and is in good condition.

And I thought cats for classic minis were expensive (had to get one for my own a while back - was running it with a decat pipe). A mechanic once told me that a cat loses 70% of it's effectiveness within a year? Could be nonsense! Anyway, 620 notes is ridiculous!

He could be right I dont know to be honest, but seen plenty older cars with original cats in the them pass the emissions test for the nct so maybe you only need the other 30% hehe
