Slainte.... to all who are celebrating Arthurs day today. They are trying to milk it now. Was very sucessful last year as it celebrated 250 years. There was free kegs in the pubs and great craic. Lads knocking off work early so they could get to the pub for 17.59. Even the non guinness drinkers were drinking the blackstuff. No free kegs this year. Wonder what sort of turn out there will be.

In think the editor of the local newspaper, Galway Advertiser, sums it up in his opening paragraph today:

"At 17.59 this evening, millions of easily-led paddies will raise a pint of the black stuff to the sky and participate in the greatest laughing yer way to the bank exercise that the field of marketing has ever seen...":D

Yeah I'm getting suckered into this too, but pints are €3.50 in me local so going out tonight instead of tomorrow night, so i'm kinda saving a few shillings (cheaper pint and no late bar)

    To Martha..

When are is 'Smithwicks' day? It was founded 300 years ago, so you can keep the black stuff as far I am concerned.

looked him up on wikipedia. According to the Guinness group, his official birthday is Sept 28th. Its just a ploy to start the weekend off early. If you have too many and need a cure, you'll go to pub tomorrow and then its the weekend.

Re Smithwicks .... I thought they had plans in place to celerbrate 300 years.

Isint it appropriate that im discussing 300 years, close to my 300th post. Am I near the first team yet?

Heard a great story on the Joe Duffy show the other day..

This woman gave Birth to a child on Arthurs day last year, so of course she called him Arthur and was delighted..

This year she finds out Arthurs Day is on a different year, Hence her child cant celebrate her birthday with Arthur, so she rings up Joe Duffy and has a right go...

Doubt it. It's one thing celebrating Guinness' 250th birthday so to speak, another thing celebrating it being Thursday.

If they stuck to the 24th September every year they'd have been on to a winner. (Friday this year, Saturday next year etc) Would have built up some momentum.

It's a Marketing scam as we all know. But I might go for a few later on as im on a day off and working this weekend :)
