Nothing but a win will do at home to this crowd. Fathead has taken enough points off us over the last few years, need to lay down a marker, season needs to get going from here.

Does anyone know any good pubs near Isaacs Hostel (by the Train Station) which will be showing the game? Cheers

sinnots is a good pub and not to far away, i'd imagine they are showing the game.

regards the match it's a tricky game, fat head as mentioned has taken a fair few points of us, really need the 3 points for confidence

If Dirks fit put him in for Kelly and swap him and GJ.

Time to step out of Rafas shadow Roy and play your own system.

Attack... Attack... Attack, Attack, Attack

If Roy goes into this with a safety first approach I would blow a fuse.

Forget about the opposition.

Play your best 11 players and fckin go for it.

Reina,
Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Konchesky,
Poulsen
Meirles, Gerrard, Cole
Torres, Ngog

No workhorses like Maxi and Jova. Quality players, some good movement and passing and three points. Thanks Roy.

Very worried about saturday now, I'd like to see 2 up front but more importantly, the defence and midfield need to push 20 yards further up the pitch.

We're sitting back so much and just inviting the opposition on to us while totally isolating Torres. Would also like to see Roy give Johnson and Koncheskey more license to get forward

Agree with you in theory but not really an option with Bent running in behind Carra.Just show some fcuking effort and try and pass the ball with a bit of urgency and I'll be satisfied.

That game last night could make or break our season.

It could either be the kick up the b****x that we need or it could plunge the team into the depths or depression.

Roll on Saturday.

Must win game.

Reina
Johnson Agger Carra Konchesky

Would be my ideal starting line up I know Gerrard prefers central role but get some class on the wings and improve the service into the forward line!

We have a good record against these the last few seasons and with Bramble & Ferdinand their possible centre backs we should be causing them plenty of problems.

Hope we don't see our players stand off them and give them time on the ball and get crosses in.

i'd really like to see johnson given a go on right wing. not saying he'll be great but at lease we'd know if it's an option and have someone with a bit of pace there

team if i could would be

reina

kelly-----carra-------agger------konchesky

johnson--gerard------Meirles-----kuyt

cole

Torres

not sure if kuyt will be back, this is more of a what team i'd like to play in general anyway

I'd go for: Reina

Johnson Carra Agger Konchesky

Kuyt Gerrard Meireles Cole

Torres Ngog

It's prob not going to happen but this game is crucial and it's almost a must win at this early stage I feel.

Thanks for the advice re. Dublin pubs lads.

As per the game, I’m usually a staunch advocate of one man up-front (think 4-4-2 is too rigid for ‘modern football’) but, given how impotent we look I feel an extra man will at least stretch Sunderland and hopefully create space. I like N’Gog as a backup but he’s been ostensibly trained to play Torres’ role and I think they are too similar to work together. So I wouldn’t mind Jovanovic getting a game up front. He and Torres both given license to drift (although they’re both inclined to move left so that could be an issue).

Whatever side is selected I really think we need to be looking at winning this by a few for confidence if nothing else. We’re in a perilous position both on/off the pitch so we need something to cheer.

I'd go for this lineup. Although I'm not sure Roy will be that attack minded to leave out both Lucas and Poulsen.

The Carra-Skrtel partnership hasn't been great so far and Agger could add something that has been lacking with some creativity from the back. The way he set up the chance for Jovanovic the other night is a reminder of what he can do.

Roys press conference comments are disgraceful. I haven't once heard him take any collective responsibility for Wednesday night and now he dismisses the 11 starters from Wednesday night, more of less blaming them entirerly and publicly hanging them out to dry.

If it was anyone else, i'd say he is leading the press a merry dance and we can expect a totally different team to what he has more or less given the press. But I don't think that it is him to lie.

He makes Rafa's man management skills look like Mother Theresa's.

I have to agree with you about his press conferences because he doesn't sound very confident in the team's ability but regarding Wednesday they couldn't beat Northampton Town ! ! ! They shouldn't be at the club. I don't give a monkeys what Hodgson's tactics were or team selection they should have won that game no excuses so why should he make excuses for them ?

It was all over the papers yesterday how Roy in the press conference talked about everyone involved being responsible. Saying that no-one who started the game Wednesday is starting tomorrow is not disgraceful, not hanging them out to dry and not leading the press a merry dance. It's what most would expect, he rested the first team and they will play tomorrow.

Yes, they should have beat Northampton, the players on the bench should have beaten Northampton. But its happened and to move on he needs to get those same players back playing to a standard they should to fit to play at.

Thats the main thing he has to deal with now. Believe it or believe it not, we WILL be using those same players off the bench Saturday and in future games. His comments just dwell on the past and make it sound like he is punishing the players. To me his comments just drive a wedge between him and the players. I have also yet to hear him take any responsiblity for the defeat, he is trying to put all blame and added pressure onto the players. It may be right to do so to a certain extent but the managers who win things are masters of man-management and putting the pressure onto themselves - Fergie, Jose, Wenger will defend their players at all costs.

Bias???? Against what?

I what a liverpool manager to lead us through the ****ing mess we're in at the minute. If he is looking for shite displays has he not looked at any of our league games, if he was dropping players for shit displays we'd be down to the U17's at this stage. Wednesday night was no worse than Birmingham away, WBA at home, City away.

YNWA and all that - except if you played against Northampton. Those that played on Wednesday should have been slughtered on Thursday but behind closed doors, then come his press conference today he should have drawn a line under it, talked the players up. Instead he has told Steve Bruce his starting 11 for satruday and publicly kicked his players when they down.

He did no such thing, and you haven't dealt with my post at all. The phrases used in your post are rubbish - he rested the first team and everyone knew that they would start tomorrow. But no, according to you it's a "disgrace" "Leading a merry dance", taking no responsibility (which he already has). In short, nothing you said in your first post is correct. You have the same tone of righteous indignation I'd expect to hear on Joe Duffy, is that where you perfected it?

The obvious bias btw is against the manager, twisting a very simple press conference into "a disgrace" and "hanging players out to dry". And then you go completely off the point in your next post. I repeat, get a grip.

Well if you are happy then thats fine, I'm not. Disgraceful may have been a strong word more suited to the display on Wednesday night.

I must have missed the memo that said we had a first 11 and a second 11 and thou stall not deviate between that. Are we back in the days of Shankley and Paisley where we only have 13 players capable of playing every staurday? Why should we stick to a rested first 11 that have picked up 5 points in 5 games???

Listen, its not about better fans or super fans. In my eyes the main thing is about the protests during and after the game.

I'm just really annoyed at the minute that everything about the club at the minute is going tits up. Hopefully Roy will get things going and the points will build up, I'd not be confident based on displays to date but its what I want to see happen.

I just can't see why his comments didn't mirror those of Gerards yesterday, rally the troops, move on and so forth.

In fairness it's not like we have a massive squad of superstars to choose from. I think it's irrelevant that he told the press no player starting Saturday will have started Wednesday , ye could figure it out yourself with out him saying it. probably an element of truth to that to be honest but imo opinion saying none of them will start Saturday seems to be hanging them out to dry/telling opposition the team in advance. i don't see the point in it.

i watched the match and it was terrible but Roy didn't cover himself in glory either, it looked like Sammy lee took it upon himself to try sort it. the players who played on Wednesday looked so short of confidence and i'm not sure this is the type of thing that is going to raise it because we'll need them throughout the season.

i'm just guessing here but i honestly think Roy is probably shocked at the lack of confidence in the squad right now and probably thought he could turn things around abit quicker.

Spot on! But you're gonna get a lot of that i'm afraid. He cant say anythin in the press and it's a 'disgrace' etc, he's just a yes man, fergies buddy etc etc. He cant win even before a game starts. this is essentially the same squad as rafa had last year with the notable exception of masch, riera nd insua. we played sh**e horrific football then and its no surprise we're doin it still, that wont be rectified in 2 or 3 months - not even jose could fix it taht quick. He's on a hiding to nothing our roy, cant see him here more thatn one season to be honest.

Lads there's alot of doom and gloom surrounding the club and every single thread reflects that because even the nextmatch/lastmatch threads decend into negativity before a ball has been kicked.

This is the Sunderland thread the game is tomorrow so lets forget what Hodgson said about Wednesdays game and forget how poor they were and lets look at the positives ! Team I've seen another forum from a reliable team-knowing-person is:

Reina Johnson Carra Skrtel Aurelio Maxi Poulson Meirles Cole
Gerard Ngog

Massive blow if Torres is out, been suggested he is been suspended for cheating ;-)

I wouldn't rule that team in or out, Aurelio weeks is he not?

I think tomorrows game is huge for us.
We're on the back of some poor results and I think if we can put in a great effort tomorrow and get a result we may be ok.
But I think if we don't get a result tomorrow then we're in for a long hard season.
It's how we react to the bad run that's important and I just think if we can't fix our problems tomorrow it may be too far gone

I'll be delighted with the team if whats being reported is true...

Reina
Johnson - Carra - Skrtel - Konchesky

Kuyt - Merielles - Poulson - Cole

-- Gerrard
Torres --

I think thats our strongest team at the minute tbh.

I'm looking for a reaction tomorrow, and I think we'll get one.
2-0 to the reds.

We should be beating Sunderland with that team today.

Don't want to see Torres isolated up there today and would like to see our players press the opposition when they have the ball - have hardly seen it all season.

Want to see more work and energy from Poulsen as he has been disappointing so far.

Be good to see Kuyt get among the goalscorers today.

Will go with 2-0 or 2-1.

Pigs ear of the team that almost won the league title two years ago great insight. The system that Rafa employed encouraged the RB and LB to push forward, same principles he employed at Valencia. Problem was we didn't have the same ability to get the players of the likes he had in those positions and who were intelligent enough to do so.

Well we're two-one down at home to Sunderland, I pretty much think he isn't the right man being honest.

Once again we let the oppostion get crosses in on us.

18 million for who exactly? We paid 10 for Johnson, 12-14 for Aquilani up till now which will be recouped next summer for an agreed price of 13 million

Absolute shocking right back. Can't defend to save his ****ing life and needs dropping badly.

One thing I really have a problem understanding is our lack of ability to pass a simple ball to your own team-mate, I don't care what the tactics, formation etc., just can't seem to work out why professional footballers passing is so bad.

Sunderland will get a 3 before we equalize, no heart, no pressure, disgraceful performance.

Portsmouth owed us 7 million for Crouch, that fee was wrote off. He can't defend I know that which is why Rafa and Roy why did they or have not moved him up to the right wing where his strengths can be used to benefit the team.

Rafa made the mistake and Roy is doing the same.

You can't right off 8m just because it was owed. What your saying means crouch was sold for 3m then.

Needs to be moved out of the team, nevermind the RB position. Fcuking waster is all style and no substance

Papering over the cracks lads being honest.

Totally...but... success breeds confidence, and as much as I have issues with Hodgson and the way he sets up our team, a lot of the issues today are down to players being at rock bottom - you can't legislate for players not being able to pass to each other.
