He pots just 2 balls and then asks the ref what the bonus for a 147 is. The ref tells him none, so Ronnie says "I'm not doing it then" With a break of 140 and set up on the black, Ronnie leaves it + shakes his opponents hand. The ref lays a guilt trip on him and says "do it for your fans" Amazing player, slightly mad but a genius too
Amazing player But think it was a bit smart the way he asked what the prize money for getting a 147 and then held off potting black £4000 isnt much for a 147 in fairness but imagine us 3-0 up against the scum Torres clean through on Van Der Sar, rounds the keeper, and then Howard Webb has to convince him to finish it off 'for the fans'
He was trying to make a point, that a 147 is a special achievement and deserves a special prize. He came across as a bit cocky but thats a measure of his confidence in his ability. He made a couple of great shots to get that 147.
A genius, the game is too easy for him and i think thats why he hasnt won as many titles as he should have, his concentration in tournaments lets him down because he gets frustrated by other players slower play compared to him. He is far and away the most talented player to have ever played the game and i love watching him play, I seen him do a 147 in the spa in lucan against jimmy white in 6 mins about 6 years ago and it was unreal the shots he played, i was talking to him after it and he reckons he does 5 or 6 a week in practice
I agree as per my first post, think £4000 is very small reward for something that most snooker players will never achieve in competitive snooker but over cockyness isnt a great trait I love Ronnie, i think he is just breathtaking to watch, but some of stuff he comes out with is off the wall
Saw an interview on sky this morning where he was saying it might be a big deal for other people but it's easy for him. Fantastic player but a knobhead. Mark king is sitting there waiting for Ronnie to take his shot while he's waiting to find out how much he gets for the 147. Very disrespectful imo. He's made 10 competetive 147's which is a fantastic achievement but he's on telly saying how easy it is for him. If it's so easy for him why has he not made 100. That's not even 1 a season. Just don't see why hee needs to be so arrogant. There's plenty of people in other sports, just as talented but show respect to their opponents.
Gotta say i love arrogant sports stars,Jordan,Kobe, the Jets,O Sullivan.Honest Arrogance is far better than false modesy.
I would agree with you on that, to have the neck to ask such a question after 2 balls is a measure of the man, the face on King was priceless he couldnt believe what was going on.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/snooker/9016342.stm Story and video clip of interview afterwards.
I understand what you're saying and Barry Hearn will be loving this because it's great publicity. But what you might call false modesty I'd call respect for fellow professionals who might not have the same god given talent but work just as hard and harder in a lot of cases to compensate.
From 1st red to last black was about 8 minutes with play stopped for almost 2mins when Ronnie asked about prize money, this could've been a 6min 147! I agree he can be arrogant but as far as I know he has very little love for the sport and just sees it as a job. He's had problems with depression and drugs. If his head was in the right place throughout his career he would've been unstoppable.
Love him or hate him you have to admit the guys a pure genius. He's probably the glue that's holding the game of snooker together at the moment. The face on Mark King when all this was going on is priceless.
I think your right about him holding snooker together. Its always the players with a bit of bravado about them that get you interested in that sport. It was jimmy white for me and it would be the hurricane for lads a bit older. I like to cheer on someone with a bit of craic about them not these modern day players with a personality of a spud.
very disrespectful???!! gimme a break!! snooker would be ****ed without him. he is the only one with a bit of raz about him. youd be happier if he was like the rest of the drones? Mark king can sit there all he wants waiting for ronnie to take his shot, what difference will it make ? he cleared up everything in 6 minutes while others take 30 seconds to pot 1 ball. if you think its disrespectful to ask how much youd get for a mximum break its a sad day indeed.
no doubt the guy is an amazing snooker player and the game would be dead without him but if i had payed in to see him play and he walked out without finishing the frame i would have gone mental. If he wanted to he could have potted a pink or blue along the way but he knew there would have been no publicity in that.
I think if it wasnt for this man, Snooker could have died a slow death, but this chap has held the game together over a number of years and we have seen younger players coming through, all with one thing in mind, to Beat Ronnie or be as good as him.. Love watching him play and Love the way he can play with Both his hands, and makes it look so easy to do.. As i said in a previous thread, any one who like Ronnie should read his autobiography as i found it very good.
