Footie finished here for another year, and back into a normal winter routine of gym & kick boxing. The missus has kindly offered to bring me to hot yoga, but the idea of squeezing into ball crushing pants, smelling like ass infront of a room of good looking women, and the possibilities of getting caught perving don’t exactly fill me with enthusiasm. So anyone out there have any recommendations, or ways of keeping fit that they particularly like during the long shitty autumn / winter months? Anyone have any success with anything like kettle bells, capoeira etc.?
Strange you should say that, couple of lads I know head down to Phoenix a couple of times a year, there are a few bars that have a cage in the centre of the place, you sign a waiver, are put in your right weight category, then you try to beat seven shades out of s**te out of some likeminded stranger, all under the refs supervision of course. Apparently it really cuts down on the bar fights in the areas as well, if there is a disagreement in the pub, its a case of 'Alright d***head, put the gloves on, inside the ring, lets go'.
Don't dismiss the yoga til you try it, hot chicks in very little clothes (especially in Bikram yoga). And they view the yoga room as a little sanctuary so you never know what you might see
But he is in Canada Justy couldnt expect him to come back for this Must sort you out with a few bob for this
Would actually have loved to have done it, but aye, as Molby mentioned, there is a fair 'auld smack of water between myself & Marlay Park. Nothing stopping me donating though.
In fairness the Hot Yoga is savage for fitness and shedding a few pounds. Did it in Galway for 2 years. Used to always suffer from hamstring and groin injuries before I took it up but never had 1 injury since. Would recommend it to anyone. Plus I'm sure they'd let you do it in an oul pair of ONeills shorts!
Cheers Fantana, everyone always says its good for flexibility, but nice to hear something positive from someone whos done it for a while. Nothing wrong with a pair of skintight O'Neills and declaring to the class on your entry "I hope none of you ladies are allergic to nuts"
Came into this thread to ask a different question but this looks interesting. I've had problems with the hamstring and groin for 4 or 5 years on and off and may give this a shot. A place 5 minutes from me does it too. The question I was gonna ask is this, I live at the bottom of a mountain, is it better for me to spend half an hour running up the hill or jump in the car, go to flat ground and spend half an hour there? Plan on doing this every morning in January apart from the ones already gone and the cold and wet ones in the future
Pretty sure we have a couple of more qualified lads (there is at least one personal trainer knocking around I think) but my two cents would be to take the trip to the flat ground for the time being. Anykind of incline running puts more pressure on your joints & legs, so the hill would definitely put an existing injury under unnecessary strain. If it was me I would take it handy on the flat ground for the next 4-6 weeks, and if you feel no ill effects then tackle the big slopey fella. Mind you, you didn't say that your hamstring was bothering you at the moment. The hot yoga is bloody great, did it for a few months last year. Would definitely recommend it if you are into weights at all, stretches everything out like nothing else.
I thought the first rule of Fight Club, was you don't talk about Fight Club ? - sounds deadly, as Eric says, a shame there ain't something similar here, would be great to even go for a few pints and watch sometimes !
My physio has a degenerative muscle disease which for years, he's had to do all manner of gym and fitness work to slow down his deterioration. Took up the hot (bikram?) yoga about 2 years ago and it's completely changed his life. He's ALWAYS at me to do it, but it's the cost that turns me off. Apparently the birds at it are quality too. Anyway, went for my first run since Dec 10th yesterday. Just an easy 5km. Feel like Steven Hawking today.
in the middle of doing this due to all my sport over till im back to gaa later this month. http://hundredpushups.com/ i think its great but many of ye can probably get through a good few pushups already.
