View Full Version : How many more rejections

With the summer transfer window gone with no significant arrivals at the club we are seeing daily names of those who rejected us. It appears that Kevin Doyle is the latest name to have rejected us. Add that to Mario Gomez, Luke Young, Rafael van der Vaart and Charlton Cole and the list grows!
Long gone are the days when a call from Liverpool was a dream come true and with the history and sucess of the club it often brought in big names. Even mediocre players are turning us down and that is a worry. Some of these stories may not be true but there must be some element of truth?
This club has fast become a place no one wants to be associated with. The yanks have made it a place of lies, false promises and uncertainty. How can the british government stand by and watch a british institution be destroyed by shear greed and dishonesty? Yes David Moores must take some blame and those who made decisions around him but surely what they signed up to was not for the club to be held to ransome by persons clearly not interested in football and the clubs traditions.
Sure the world of the PL has gone global and we all long for a wealthy buyer to come in like Chelsea and Man City and turn us into fantasy Football by buying everyone who is any good. But surely this saga has gone on for long enough and someone should make a decision that states the owners are not fit for purpose. They should accept a price to clear the existing debt and not hold the club hostage. The RBS should be able to take control and deal with those potential buyers who have the funds to run us correctly.
How sad is it to see newspaper article after newspaper article printing these stories of rejection. This season will be tough but will be nothing compared to next if we are not allowed to compete at this level. We will lose our crown jewells and with it if we are not careful our status as a PL team and force. We are faced with a Leeds Utd scenario on a much larger scale. It is so hard to take all these rejections!!!!!

Most of it is rubbish Gray, papers get sold with this muck. They use the unrest at the club to spin more stories. Plus there is the London bias of the media which even at the best of times praised Liverpool through gritted teeth.
Kevin Doyle? Carlton Cole? Luke Young? Mario Gomez? Don't make me laugh will ya! Van Der Vaart yes but the others should have never been linked with us in the first place!

I suppose there is an element of that. The London press trying to undermine the club which is so easy to do at the moment. Not only can we not sell we can't buy players either. It is a fair point but unfortunately it is out there and the players at the club read the papers like the rest of us. The club is on it's knees and we are getting kicked from all angles. I have never felt so low as a supporter in all the years I have supported the club and really fear for the future. With luck we will sell before christmas and have the january transfer window to bring in the odd quality signing to finish the season on form?

That is my point exactly. When we heard that the Cole deal didn't go through because babel turned them down just who was disappointed? The problem we are now faced with is we are in the bargain bucket and the likes of those above are exactly who we can afford? I don't rate any but the real kick in the wotsits is when then say no and it then goes to press!!

I very much doubt Kevin Doyle turned down Liverpool to stay with perennial title challenging Wolves
I'd take it all with a grain of salt personally, but in all honesty, even with the calibre of players listed, its understandable why they wouldn't choose Liverpool with the way the club is currently being run. Very hard to figure out the actual reasoning behind it though, maybe Doyle (for example) was looking for 60,000 a week, who knows, either way we dodged a bullet with many of the players mentioned. If new owners came in and funds were available they would probably be the first out the door anyway, wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Why would RBS care? They are making an absolute fortune in interest payments from the club, and will probably continue to do so when they agree to refinance next month, p***ks. Think we as fans give banks and companies way too much credit when it comes to having a social conscience.

Don't think we were ever really in for Doyle.Cole would gladly have come if West Ham accepted a bid,Gomez wanted to come by all accounts but Bayern were unwilling to let him go on loan,Luke Young was also keen to come only for the deal to apparently fall apart over agents fee's amongst other things. The only one we were 'rejected' by was Van Der Vaart (who I don't rate) and to be honest from his point of view Tottenham were probably able to offer far better wages, the bright lights of London and Champions League football. He's Dutch and probably couldn't give a flying fcuk about our history.Sad reality is that Tottenham is a better career choice than Liverpool at this moment in time.

Not only can we not sell
I don't think we have a problem with selling players mate, just look at the last few windows. Now if you'd have said getting what we deserve for players sold I'd agree with you but doubt that is negative enough for you

That was'nt the reason, Gomez was a target but not first choice, Bayern didn't want to release him while he wanted to come to us as he has stated, we never even made a move for Carlton Cole until 2pm on deadline day as we'd been let down by the 2 previous targets, the reason this deal did'nt happen was what the fcuk were west ham gona do with the money when they had to sell off there main striker with no time to replace him, and Babel would'nt have filled that void, we shold have tried to sell Babel earlier, but he was not the reason we did not get a striker.
Luke Young not coming to us was nothing to do with money/agents or transfer fees, I've explained in the Luke Young thread the reason, and it says alot about him as a man who deserves to be respected.
VDV was approached as is public knowledge well before we had the chance to get joe Cole, whos twice the player he is, if Spurs had got Cole they would'nt have been in for VDV.
We were never in for Kevin Doyle, like we were never in for Glen Whelan or Paul Scharner or scores of other players that the rags linked us with this summer, to which many had a canary over, serious have a read through the transfer thread, comedy gold the reaction of people on it to every name mentioned.
We stupidly left it all to late trying to get a striker, who's fault it is well thats peoples opinion.

Dont think we were Rejected by ANYONE..
Cole deal didnt materilse, and i dont believe it was because he didnt want to sign for us.
Luke Young, had family reasons, mainly due to Health Circumstances.
Gomez- Wanted to Join us, Bayern wouldnt let him..
Kevin Doyle..No way would Mick Mc Carthy let his top boy move..
Van Der Vaart-- where was he going to play??? We let Aqua go, because we have Gerrard and Cole who play in that Position, so it would be silly to Sign him.
Any decent player who is not motivated by Money will 99% of the time sign for us, over City.

For what it's worth I think Doyle would be a good player for us in a price bracket that is realistic for the club. But we can park all this talk now until January anyway and let's make do with what we have, starting with getting a bit of a bogey team for us out of the way on Sunday

Saw Doyle last in Aviva Stadium I would have him any day in LFC his work for the team is out of this World and that imo is LFC standard and it always been and im not saying that because im from Wexford, he has become a great player.

Doyle is a decent striker and would be a good backup to have. He puts in a lot of work, which is something we could do with badly.

True or not none of the reports said Kevin Doyle rejected us. They said Wolves rejected a deadline day bid from us as they couldn’t afford to lose him on deadline day without proper time to find a replacement.
I’m sure if a bid had been made mid-summer things would have been quite different. Of course Kevin would consider a move to Liverpool. Wolves is a stepping stone for him. Wolves has been great for him and he has been great for Wolves.

Oh here we go. I based this topic on the information released yesterday by the press that Van der vaart turned offers from LFC down. Now I was only aware of that yesterday. Yes it then enters into a debate about the owners and others who have also rejected the chance to join. These points are worth discussing and if for no other reason discuss the recent revealations about Van der vaart. But thanks for the input anyway.

Just SOME of the blame ya rekon??????
And I dont think Moores "signed up" for anything, he simply got offered a few more quid per share by the Yanks than DIC were offering and took it!!!
Surely he would have known that their very first statement of "we wont do a Glaziers" was a lie, and that they were infact planning on loading the club with the debt???

As backup to Torres I meant. I think most of the time Torres will be playing up front by himself. But in the event that Torres gets injured Kevin would be very able to hold the line on on his own. They might even make a great partnership if played together!

I'm not suggesting Moores signed up to anything. i just know that he is Liverpool through and through and probably regrets selling to the yanks. They obviously presented themselves as buyers who had the interests of the club at heart. Moores would not have sold to them otherwise regardless of the price. That is all I am saying.

Roy Hodgson today dismissed suggestions that Liverpool were chasing Rafael van der Vaart in the transfer window.
The Holland international's agent claimed the Reds were circling before Tottenham finally clinched his signature.
But Hodgson is having none of it: "No, that's not true. Those stories can get very irritating.
"An agent rings you up to ask if you want to sign van der Vaart, you say 'No' and then the next minute you're one of the clubs that want to sign him.
"I apologise to van der Vaart if his agent gave him another story. I think he's a very good player, but he's not the profile of the player we were looking for.
"When it came up I said, 'No, we have players in his position.'"
Fair play Roy I'll climb back into my box. I can only imagine that those other ludicrous names were agent talk to? Thank god for that and thanks for getting back to me Roy.

I like the way Roy deals with this crap in the media, he's so straightforward about everything! Imagine the cheek of the agent telling the player that!

van der Vaart is one of the most over-rated players in Europe. An enigma who rarely delivers, freezes in big games and the proof in the pudding is seen in his club hopping the last few years, plus the fact he is permanently benched by the Dutch. £8m is about what he's worth and he's not better than anyone we already have. He was once a great prospect who is still living off that reputation. Well in Roy for putting them straight, hopefully he will address the Hleb story as well seeing as we blatantly turned him down as part of any deal for Mascherano
