Be interested to hear people's thoughts on him. Never linked to him and he's gone to Birmingham but could have been decent option imo. English so home grown and with being on loan possibly only a small fee involved to take him for season. Granted not great outside the box but very good finisher in it. Ideally you'd want Liverpool to sign a better quality of striker but with dick all money I thought he would be decent option.
He's a decent player, scored some good goals for Blackburn. He would have been no worse than Voronin.
he remindes me a bit of neil mellor good in the box a goal poacher id rather see neil back at the club but he's at sheff wed now
WEDNESDAY new boy Neil Mellor is out to earn a full transfer to Hillsborough when his loan stay ends next year. He has another two years left on his Preston contract but is on the transfer list and would love to stay with the Owls if he proves himself once again to his ex-Deepdale boss, Alan Irvine, next season. The 27-year-old striker told The Star: "I'm very excited to be here. It's been a long time trying to sort a deal out but finally it's been done. I've got two years left at Preston; I think they were trying to get a fee; they couldn't agree a fee; a loan was the best option for me in the end and hopefully something can be sorted out at the end of the season. "Obviously it's down to Alan to see how well I do and go from there. "It's a loan, but I want to prove why he has brought me here, so hopefully I can earn a longer deal." Mellor has a soft spot for the Owls because he was born in Sheffield, his dad, Ian, played for the club, and his elder brother, Simon, is a big Wednesday fan. Neil was only five when the Mellors left Sheffield for Manchester so he grew up as a fan of Manchester City, but Wednesday have always been his 'second' team. He says he wanted to play for Wednesday because of the chance of working with Irvine again and the size of the club. "There were other options - including a couple in the Championship." Irvine said: "He's a goalscorer and a good character. I was interested whether it was a loan or a permanent deal. He was desperate to come here." http://www.thestar.co.uk/sportheadlines/Owls-Sheffield-Wednesday-new-boy.6398516.jp
I think he will do well at birmingham,a bit like forsell a few year ago good at them but just not good enough for the top 8.
Sorry bout that Glen. thought it was in an interview with him before our cup game with Preston. Maybe it was something to do with an injury and i picked it up wrong
yea i think thats a pretty good comparision andy carroll anyone? again i know he's no pele and would like to aim higher but english and don't think would cost a fortune, aside from poor miss did alright against united
Derbyshire is a more than decent finisher around the box. His all round game is poor though and he's often anonymous in games, even when he scores. Would have been a good squad player though
+1 :- is that the level we are dragging ourselves down to why not go for rob hulse if thats the case!!!!
once again i hope the irony isn't lost, some people going mad on getting someone like derbyshire on LOAN but yet think it's a great idea to LOAN out Aquilanni, bravo, bravo, i salute you all
Don't think Derbyshire would have been good enough for us. Mellor is a good championship striker, not a great one and definitely not premiership quality
I think it's pointless having this debate as to whether he's good enough or not to play for us.He's a Brum player and will be for the rest of the season.
