Skysports.com understands Birmingham are stepping up their interest in Liverpool's Ryan Babel. The Reds are ready to offload the former Ajax ace so that they can fund some of their own signings before the close of the transfer window. The news has rekindled Birmingham's interest in the 23-year-old with Blues boss Alex McLeish a long-term admirer of the versatile attacker. Birmingham failed in a bid to sign Babel during the January transfer window, but they have been keeping tabs on his situation at Anfield. McLeish has been frustrated in his attempts to bring in attacking reinforcements after missing out on Moussa Dembele and he could now refocus his attentions on Babel. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6309754,00.html
£10-12m? he cost us £11.5 and has done f-all in 3 seasons except prove to be a bigger idiot year on year. Would take £7.5 for him.
Will be interesting to see whether roy wants to keep him. Doubt birmingham will get him unless they come in with a silly offer. Im hoping he stays anyways
Personally I'd sell him in a shot. I don't think he's good enough for Liverpool. The Dutch coach doesn't think he's good enough for Holland either. He was one of only two players that didn't play a minute for Holland at the World Cup. Clearly he doesn't fancy him as a player. He is forever bleating on about how he had to be playing to get his game for Holland. Well I've news for you Babel the Holland coach had you for 6-8 weeks to see you playing at the WC and he didn't pick you so stop moaning. Be professional and play for Liverpool or you're out mate. I'd have thrown him out for the Twitter posts anyway. An absolute idiot.
If we got a good bit of money for him I'd probably sell but unless its about 12 million plus I'd keep him and see what he's like under Roy. Could be a Bobby Zamora type of project for Roy.
Yeah see what he does under Roy, Rafa never give him a fair chance in my opinion. If we sold him to Birmingham would say we would regret it.
They offered around £10-11m last season .. and was told by a ITK brummie they willing to up to £12-£12.5m
I don't think he would have took him to the world cup if he felt like that... I hope he stays for at least one more season under Roy. I'd like to see upfront or even on the right more. It's clear to all that he is no left winger.
They played 7 games, the coach played 20 players out of a squad of 22. He didn't play Babel for 1 minute. You say he wouldn't have taken him if he felt that way. Well maybe that was the case and then he had to spend 6-8 weeks listening to him and he pissed him off at the WC I don't know. The fact is he didn't play him so he might as well not have taken him anyway. You say he's no " left winger ". I agree, he's no striker either as his goalscoring record shows.
Agree with this but I dont how much game time he is going to see. This fella has bags of talent but he would drive you around the bend the way he goes on sometimes.
