Liverpool aim to bring Tottenham striker Peter Crouch back to Anfield

Roy Hodgson the Liverpool manager, has identified Peter Crouch as his preferred attacking reinforcement as he looks to boost his resources.

Hodgson, who has spent just £3.9 million on Danny Wilson, Milan Jovanovic, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Cole this summer, is thought to want at least three more signings before the August transfer window closes, including a left-back, a midfielder and a forward.

The Danish international Christian Poulsen is expected to arrive in a £4 million deal from Juventus this week after his agent held talks with the Premier League club on Friday, while Paul Konchesky, Hodgson's former charge at Fulham, remains his prime target for a full-back slot.

The Liverpool manager, though, knows he needs to provide Fernando Torres with both a support act and a substitute to prevent the Spanish international, who last week committed his future to the club, succumbing to another injury-blighted season.

Though Hodgson is believed to be examining a number of possibilities, Liverpool's need to boost their quota of English players has led him to consider offering Tottenham's Crouch a return to Anfield. The striker joined the club in 2006, but was sold to Portsmouth by former manager Rafael Benítez two years later.

Liverpool cannot offer Crouch the Champions League football he would enjoy at White Hart Lane, but Hodgson believes he could convince the England international to rejoin the Merseyside club.

No formal bid will be made until funds are generate by finalising the sale of Javier Mascherano to Inter Milan, where he will be reunited with Benítez. The Italian side have not yet made Liverpool a firm offer but that deal is expected to be completed in short order when the Italian champions sell Mario Balotelli to Manchester City.

As much as I like Crouch, a certain poster reckons Roy is a one up front type manager(I don't know Roy so I'll have to rely on this posters opinions ;))....in which case I woud not want Crouch as back up. He's great playing with/behind another striker but to have him leading the line??? NO thanks.
As much chance as seeing Keane back as Crouch imo.
    More wkend media bullsh!t.

Loved Crouchie when he was with us and thought he was let go a bit premature, but i cant see the logic behind this one from both sides. On the player's side, i dont know why he would leave a club potentionally in the Champions League for a club that isnt, other than the fact of getting first team football, but i cant see this happening as when Fernando is fit, he plays and i for one dont see them as a partnership

He left us for porthsmouth. I'd love to see him come back. He's a quality striker. He's got a great touch and can cause havoc in the box from set pieces, something I think everyone will agree we've needed for some time. His heading has improved since he left and I think there will be plenty of occassions when we could do with two up front, especially when the weaker teams come to anfield and are set up to frustrate us. He wouldn't break the bank and he's English.

great to see crouch back, rafa should have kept him, crouch is a great player and a super team player, and did roy ever say he wants to play 1 up front, i hope we play 2 up front.
crouch and torres up front, with steve just behind them, cole on the wing, remember last time crouch played v arsenal, one one the right, and then on the left and one on his head. perfect hattrick and then got dropped for the next game lol

Why is everyone so keen on bringing Crouch back.He is an avaerage at best striker, starting with Southampton its 188 games,53 goals.Thats a 1 in 3.5 average and he makes teams play the long ball game, its a natural thing to do,and also for a big man he is a poor header.
Also why play 2 up front, very few if any top quality teams do anymore,Torres plays better alone,Cole/Gerrard excell in that role behind them.

It would be at least a short term solution if Nando is injured there is a few goals in crouchie aswell.

I always liked Crouch. If he was good in the air he'd be world class, he's hopeless at that though. He still offers something the squad badly lacks and I'd have him back any day.

Think we need some more strikers in, Crouch and Bellamy would be ideal and would provide a bit of competition if we had two up front.

As much as I liked Bellamy he is a disruptive influience and he will not be happy to come back to sit on the bench and thats what he will do. He is not going to get into our starting 11 on a regular basis and I would rather we had young Dani Pahecho on the bench instead of bellamy. We also still have Kuyt and Babel who could play through the middle
