Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has admitted he is interested in signing Juventus' Danish midfielder Christian Poulsen.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for Poulsen as they consider replacements for wantaway midfielder Javier Mascherano.
Juventus are thought to be willing to let Poulsen move on as he is currently down the pecking order in new coach Luigi Del Neri'splans.

Hodgson is a big fan of Poulsen having worked with him during his time in charge of FC Copenhagen and he feels he would be a valuable addition to his squad at Anfield.

"If we can sign him from Juventus at a price I consider reasonable, he will be a very good player to bring into our team," Hodgson told Ekstra Bladet.

"Christian is a player I know well, a player whose career I actually kick-started many years ago and I have followed him closely ever since."

I always try and look for the positives in players we sign but in this case all I can think of is that he can fill in at right back.

Slow, old, always giving away cheap free kicks and getting booked. Not a particularly good passer.Roy seems to love him though and Juve don't want him so I knew it was only a matter if time.

If u just remove the old (and in masch's case prob the slow) that describes lucas most of the time and masch a lot of the time. poulsen ould only cost 5-6m tops and is very experienced at his job - i still think he'll have to get a top class ball-playing midfielder (i just dont think aquaman is up to it but thats just my opinion) like martinez, defour, banega or even steven ireland ie guys who can actually pass the ball and see a pass early. it doesnt matter who we get in defence or in attack, if the midfield even partially resembles the shamboic crap form last season we'll be lucky to get top7

if roy likes him he is good enough for me. liverpool manager and deserves the chance to sign players give them a chance before we start slating them defour will go to united martinez is lookin like barca if they dont get fabragas and ireland ehhhhhhhhhhh no just no. we ave a ball playing midfeild wit cole, gerrard and rodriguez we need a breaker and as ppl seem so against lucas then we need a replacement. so i would welcome him as long as its below 10 m

That describes the opposite of Lucas. This cheap free kicks bollox is a myth-he totally cut that out of his game last year.He had one of the highest tackle completion ratio's in the league and conceded less free kicks than Masch who is one of the best tacklers in the game. He's also younger, quicker and a better passer than Poulsen and Lucas isn't even a holding midfielder in the first place. But hey,any excuse for a pop at an easy target I spose.

Poulsen with rest of the masch fee going on a striker would do for me. I'd prefer Flamini though and he's probably around the same price as well.

Be prepared to see this chap sit in the stands for most of our games, as he tend to like a yellow and red card..Most be colours he is attracted to..

Now now Skrtel, didn't you use the same argument for Insua last night!!!
Anyway, have to say I know nothing about this guy other than he was highly rated before Juve bought him. You say slow and gives away free kicks, I would dread the thought of him and Lucas in our midfield!

Careful now...or u mite be accused of 'any excuse to have a pop at an easy target'. Lucas is an excellent quick passer, doesnt give away silly fouls (just a myth) and puts in more successful tackles than anyone in the prem....apparently. just refer to the opta stats, they never lie.
i reckon ray wilkins wouldve scored off the charts on pass completion rate if he was playing today.
anyway, poulsen is ok but wouldnt be my number1 target, altho he was reasonably good at seville i seem to remember the few times i saw him but thats a while back. i agree with irishlad, flamini is younger and knows the prem and would be a better option i reckon

This doesn't inspire confidence of an immenent takeover or as a worthy replacement for Masch to say the least. Has to be better out there in this position surely.

Surely we shouldn't be replacing one of the top holding midfielders in the world with a squad player though.

I agree but we just dont know how much of the masch money he's actually gonna get to replace him once he's gone. I'd prefer martinez who will prob stay in spain but maybe he thinks a midfield of poulsen/aquaman or poulsen/gerrard will do the job in the prem and maybe buy another striker or top wide playr if the money is available.
suffice it to say i wouldnt be ecstatic with the signing cos i think our midfield was so poor in terms of ball retention and creativity last season, that if it continued this coming season i couldnt see a major climb up the table, irrespective of torres' fitness or who we play left back or out wide. Still not sure if its actually a nailed on certainty
