Who's your starting 11 for tomorrows game?

Would love to see Pacheco start. Surely he's prob the most match fit of the lot after playing competitively with Spains U19's recently.

Anyone know if he's back at melwood?

I'd probably go with a strong team, due to them not getting much game time before the arsenal game.

Something like this

------------------Reina

Johnson-----Skrtel-----Wilson----Agger

------------------Lucas

---Pacheco------------Gerrard------Cole

------------Ngog-----------Kuyt

With the season starting sunday week I would play about 7 first teamers, otherwise they'll have practically no match time prior to the season start. As a club we took a big hit with the world cup, need to re-focus the players for a very big start to the season with the gunners, man city and the scum in the first 6 matches.

I am sure Redabbey will clarify;) but are'nt the 4 world cup lads (Reina,Torres,Kuyt and Babel) illegable for this match? Maybe even the english lads too.

Roy said something today about Torres not playing due to still recovering from his injury. That would make me think that the rest can play.

Forgot about that, did the same squad have to be submitted for the two ties at the outset? So none of the big boys will get a run out. The squad for the first game was; Liverpool squad: Cavalieri, Aquilani, Agger, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Lucas, Wilson, Ngog, Spearing, Darby, Shelvey, Kelly, Skrtel, Eccleston, Ayala, Hansen, Gulacsi, Amoo, Dalla Valle, Ince..

Still should be enough to beat them but I was thinking of the game more for fitness. I'm sure Joe Cole said something about his first competitive match being on thursday though...

None of the world cup finalists will play. The sports science team will maintain the same stance that they had for all other players at WC in that they will at very least need a weeks training before a game. All only been back since Monday apart from "R to the Bizzy Babel" who was back last friday, so he may sneak an appearance

Only these players submitted to UEFA before the 1st leg can play. So definitely no Babbel.

You are forgetting that the following weekend is an international weekend and the players will be released to their national squads in advance of these fixtures. That is the reason that there are no TV games scheduled for that Monday.

Rafa rested players in the league though. He always preferred Europe.

I honestly believe if he had of just went for the league last year, after we were knocked out of the CL, then we'd have finished top 4.

I really don't think we have the squad yet to be going for everything. Top 4 and a nice run in the FA cup would do nicely.

Definitely feeling a lot more positive about the strenght of the squad after tonight. Kelly was the big plus for me tonight, the lad is definitely going to be a player. The defending at the end was fantastic to stop that guy scoring. I'd definitely like to see another striker come but it looks like we've good competition for places all over the pitch. Not saying we're the finished article by any means but I think how despondent I was a few weeks ago compared to now and I can't wait for the season to start.

Well that was the first hour and a half in the last week I haven't been worrying about us. I don't know if thats a good thing

Think it was a pretty good peformance all in all. Stevie looked back on the boil (even without doing one pass that wasn't a backheel), jovanovic looked decent, kelly looked solid, JC looked sharp and dani had a good game without looking like the second coming (would have liked to see him given a chance up front as ngog doesn't look anything like a natural goalscorer)

The most encouraging thing for me was the quick pass and move style we played which after the last few years is a welcome relief. Hopefully we can play this way when going to blackpool, west ham, west brom etc.

Funny you should say that Lionel! Was watching a bit of the Emirates Cup on Sky at the weekend, and the Jack Wolfskin advertising came up there as well. My brother gives tours of Trinity, and he said he has never seen anybody other than Germans wearing Jack Wolfskin, and was surprised to see it advertised in England. He lived in Germany for a year as well, and said it's fairly big over there.

My brother gives tours of Trinity, and he said he has never seen anybody other than Germans wearing Jack Wolfskin, and was surprised to see it advertised in England. He lived in Germany for a year as well, and said it's fairly big over there.

Personally I had never came across the brand until 2 years ago skiing in Switzerland and I was amazed how much of it was about. ITK's have already told me that 'Trucker' has replaced his 'North Face' with a 'Wolfskin' and as he is a big softie loves the friendly paw on his shoulder.

Very happy with that performance. Only let down was the lack of goals but if your creating as much as that then the goals will come. Im sure Nando was delighted as much as i was to see Joe Cole put in a performance like that. I honestly think his link up play with a hopefully fit & sharp Torres this season will bring bags of goals.

Slick passing with great movement throughout the team. Stevie looking hungry for it was great to watch. IMO he is the only player who can replace Alonso.

We're looking good lads & Sunday week cant come quick enough. Thats something i didnt think i would be saying a month ago when i dreaded the thought of playing the Gooners. Roll on :)

Dont want to be the professor of Doom, but these were the equivilant of Rochdale. They nearly scored twice at the end too. Would not read anything into the results as I would read anything into the disappointing friendlies.

Some nice link play and plenty of chances created. Ngog played well, however We need Torres at the sharp end when the real action begins Sunday week.

Good performance, Kelly will be a great player I think. Bit disappointed in Pacheco, thought he tried too hard.

I think last night emhasised the point, we need a striker. We have so many creative/link players; Gerrard, Aquilani, Maxi, Pacheco, Cole, Jova, Kuyt, Babel.

We are completely reliant on Torres for finishing, leading the line. Ngog is improving but really is nowhere near good enough at the moment.

So we are relying on a player who has played just over half of our league games in the last two seasons. I hope Roy has someone lined up to come in before next week. Otherwise I fear we'll struggle to make 4th, and we'll have the same transfer drama surrounding our players this time next year.

I thought there were a load of positives from last night. We fizzed the ball around quickly and opened them up on numerous occasions. I thought the back four were assured and both full backs got forward well. Johnson if fit will give us a different dimension going forward and Kelly down the left was just as good.

In the middle Gerrard was driving us forward from deep and knocking both long and short passes around. In front of him we looked so good in advanced positions.
Joe Cole was brilliant and in time will get us goals. Jovanovic showed great pace, vision and endeavour and looked a real threat.

I thought Pacheco was disappointing but showed some real nice touches. He will prove to be a great squad member this season and will get goals. Now Ngog does concern me! He just doesn't have the quality at this level and had we Torres up front last night he'd have scored 6. There has been an improvement in his hold up play but he still lacks composure in goal scoring position and just just can't afford to pass up these sort of chances in this standard of football.

I'm not slating Ngog because he was showing well and running the channels and went all night but is he ever going to have than killer instinct. He's got 3 goals to date so we'll see and hopefully that'll give him some confidence. He might be like Heskey and need that arm around him to perform. rafa was never that sort of manager but Roy appears to be so he may flourish under him?

All in all it's looking good. We look more attacking that last season anyway.

Must be one of your most positive posts ever!:D

In relation to Ngog, he is no Torres now but the situation dictates he is probably second choice striker at the moment, ideally he would be a third choice.

People seem to forget he is only 21 and still raw but he has continued to show improvement, Didier Drogba was a nobody at the age of 21 and Ngog has a better goalscoring ratio last season than Drogba did in the French League at around the same age.He has also more often than not played the loan striker role - which only the very best strikers in the World can do.

Think of Ngog for the future more than now, it is not his fault he has got so many games over the last season or so. At the moment we need to hold onto him (Torres injured), but a loan spell with guaranteed first team football would be a good move also.

So if he goes out on loan and Torres injured, what do we do then? Kuyt's original role was striker, Babel was originally in a strikers role also. I would like to see a lot more of him upfront

Impressed with Cole and Milan last night and I thought Kelly and Glen done well down the wings, some lovely weaveing runs forward from Glen. N'gog took his header very well but Fu*k me he could have netted 5 or 6 but he is improving all the time and id say his confidence is fairly high

Johnson is super going forward however against better sides he can get caught out of position at the back. He needs to find the balance

Agreed.

Although he's a player I enjoy watching he also makes me nervous. For a player with his experience he gets caught out of position an awfull lot.
Hopefull Roy will get that part of his game up to scratch then he will be a class act.

Hard to judge the performance because of the opposition but at least the players looked half interested, which is more than can be said for last season!!
Joe Cole had a great game and i can see him and Nando forming a great partnership!!

The team seemed to play with a lot more freedom than they did under Rafa, and it defo seemed like the type of performance where before the game Woy just told them to go out and enjoy it and express themselves, you think Stevie would have attempted so many back heels and flicks under Rafa???

Good performance against poor opposition.Attacking wise it was a breath of fresh air but again hard to judge based on the opposition.Joe cole was very impressive and jovanovic showed promise but all in all we controlled the game and created plenty of chances.I must say I'm really looking forward to seeing cole gerrard and torres playing together. As regards ngog,he has a long way to go IMO but is getting dare I say better with experience. We still need someone better than him to fill in for torres though.

Liverpool 2 - Rabotnicki Skopje 0 (agg: 4-0 Europa League)
N’Gog 22
Gerrard 40 (pen)

Liverpool played another pre-season loss before this match, using it to ‘warm-up’ some of the more experienced players, which were then used in this match. Given that the tie was mor eor less wound up after the 1st leg, this was likely to be more like a practice match than anything, although slighlt better as the result still counted. Liverpool won this match with ease.

The team lined up more like a 4-1-4-1, with Hodgson using only Lucas as a real holding player although Gerrard was back there sometimes. Cole played in a more advanced role than Stevie. This was closer to a 1st team, althought not quite. Kelly was switched to left-back this time, proving his versatility and usefulness:

------------- Cavalieri -------------
Johnson - Carragher - Skrtel - Kelly
---------------- Lucas --------------
Pacheco* - Gerrard – Cole - Jovanovic*
---------- N’Gog ---------------

(*) players switched wings

Subs: Aquilani for Gerrard (62m), Maxi for Jovanovic (67m), Spearing for Lucas (73mins)

The opposition were once again very weak and created hardly anything. This match was all Liverpool so it was going to be a case of how many, rather than who would win. Liverpool found things quite easy.

Johnson played well getting a lot down the right. Carragher and Skrtel dealt with everything that eventually came their way. Lucas was mopping up. Stevie G was very inventive, making long passes and making Liverpool tick. Martin Kelly did well down his unfavoured left side. But with Insua staying and Aurelio back, and Agger also having done well in that role, surely we wont see him being deployed much as a left-back.

Joe Cole played well as an inside-forward type of role. I think he has more quality as a player than Benayoun, perhaps not as unpredictable as Yossi is but with more pace, etc. He may prove his worth although it will take a long while before I can ‘accept’ a Chelsea-player of 7 years as a true Red.

Jovanovic is strong and tries hard, but I don’t think he has deft and close ball control and doesn’t like like a winger-wizard to me. He doesn’t look as good as Riera was or could have been. Ironically, he is more Kuyt like, with a bit more pace perhaps. Also ironically, he was a player ‘disaffected’ with the manager at his previous club, a bit like Riera with Benitez. We ‘give away’ our problems and we get ‘theirs’. That’s football and people I guess.

Pacheco was also playing out wide, but that doesn’t seem to be his natural position which to me is in closer to the danger area in and around the inside-right or left positions.

As for N’Gog, oh my. Yes, he scored, but boy did he miss loads and loads of chances and failed abysmallyt to set goals up when through and on. I still don’t think he is of sufficient quality for us, and I don’t know if Hodgson is looking for another striker but surely that is a must. We have enough midfielders, we have enough defenders, we have 4 players that can play left back if not 5. But we do not have qnough quality strikers and one to help or stand-in for Torres, when he gets injured. Which is a probability rather than just a mere possibility.

We played well, some nice touches. N’Gog got a headed goal unmarked, clearly the opposition were weak. And he was barely fouled and Gerrard put away the penalty. The tie was over as a contest as was the match and Liverpool should have scored more. Perhaps in a strange kind of way its better that we didn’t as players wont lose the ‘run of themselves’ with a 5 or 6-0 win. Next up in this competition its Tranbzonspor. No Turkish teams are easy but on paper we should get past them. And next up in the league it’s the little matter of Arsenal.

And if things weren’t busy enough, the sales process is moving ahead, with both the Syrian/Canadian bid and the Huang Chinese bid getting the most airtime. How any new Owners will work out is unknown at this point in time, but surely they cant be any worse than the soon departing Gillet & Hicks. The times, they are a-changing, and hopefully for the better for Liverpool FC.

One thing from the game that brought a smile to my face was seeing Roy celevrate one of the goals.
It wasn't Rafa's way to do that, but there's something you like about it with Roy at the moment.

Think you'll find Roy does a lot of things Rafa never use to do. (it's not a dig at Rafa) Looking foward to this season think we'll have a lot to cheer about this year.
