Snooker legend Alex Higgins has died

    Retired professional snooker Player Alex Higgins has died at the age of 61.
    Saturday, 24 July 2010


    Higgins, who was born in Belfast, was crowned World Champion on two occasions and was also runner-up twice.

    He was also a former World Doubles Champion and won the World Cup three times with the All Ireland team.

    Higgins has been married twice and has a son and a daughter with his ex-wife Lynn

    jesus, thats really sad. Read his autobiography last year. Immensely talented sportsman, shame he'll be remembered more for his vices.

    He was a true great at the game. Sad to hear the news of his passing. I always remember the BBC done a clip on him with Culture Club - Victims the background music.

    I will always remember the year he played in the Mosconi Cup, magic.

    The nickname 'the hurricane' was probably the most accurate nickname ever for a sportsman. I just hope that some of his earlier tournament play is shown on a TV tribute to Alex. His long screw pots were the greatest I have ever seen. A true legend haunted by his own demons.

    Interesting documentary on RTE 1 tonight at 1035.The Alex Higgins Story.Includes an interview from 2005.Should be worth a look.
