This article is from Buxton the guy who broke the Cole story on his Twitter so might be of interest . Roy Hodgson targets Manchester City's Wayne Bridge as next Liverpool FC left-back Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge. Fabio Aurelio left the club last month after failing to agree a new deal and the imminent sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina means that Roy Hodgson is left with no first-choice left-back ahead of next Thursday's Europa League showdown with FC Rabotnicki. Hodgson is looking at Bridge, 29, to fill the void with a deal for Wigan's Maynor Figueroa proving difficult whilst the Kop boss is reluctant to raid former club Fulham in a bid to secure Paul Konchesky's services following a gentleman's agreement with Mohamed Al-Fayed. City are expected to be reluctant to sell the former Chelsea full-back, who is expected to fall down the pecking order with the impending arrival of Aleksander Kolarov from Lazio, to one of their rivals for Champions League qualification. Bridge hit the headlines earlier this year after he announced international retirement at the end of February following revelations that his former girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel had been having an affair with his ex-Chelsea team mate and then England captain John Terry.
Heard this 2 days ago. Hope it's true. . We could raid city for a few of their boys for cut prices. . Bridges wages might be a huge stumbling block though. .
He plays right back and centre back though, so he mightnt be much use to us on the left.. I really dont rate bridge, but maybe my opinion could be changed..I think 6-7 million for a 29 yr old is alot of money..
From the Man City players that seem surplus to requirements I'd take Bridge, Ireland and maybe the striker Jo all at the right price though...
Imo Carlos Salcido and Fábio Coentrão where the best 2 left backs in the world cup with Fábio Coentrão costing £20-30m id be happy if we could get Carlos Salcido in on the cheap .
I think Roy should go for Capdavilla from Villareal as he's quality not to sure how much he'd cost but if he's unavailable then i'd take bridge as I think he 's decent enough
Capdevilla is 32 now and would probably command a decent fee. Always thought he was suspect at the back as well, decent going forward though.
Agree with that, most English players have become too expensive, though with the recession now biting into the Premer League a bit (excluding the Top 4-5 teams perhaps), that might change over the next 1-2 years. Agree mate. I'd far rather see us sign a younger player, we need to build a first choice 4 (assuming we continue to play 4 at the back, obviously), to defend for many years to come and hopefully, Roy has sufficient resources available to him, to help do that.
I reckon we can scratch this one off the list City will not sell Bridge to Liverpool ESPNsoccernet has been told that Wayne Bridge has been assured his future remains at Eastlands despite the imminent arrival of left-back Aleksandr Kolarov and rumoured interest from Liverpool. City will spend £17 million on Serbian defender Kolarov and the deal has led to speculation linking the 29-year-old Bridge with a move to Liverpool, as new boss Roy Hodgson is on the lookout for a new left back after the departures of Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio. However, Bridge, who declined to be included in England's World Cup squad because of a well-publicised fall-out with John Terry, naturally has sought clarification about his future with Manchester City and has been told he will not be sold. ''Wayne Bridge has been told by Manchester City that he is not for sale, that the manager wants two players for every position,'' a source told Soccernet. "That's fine by Wayne who is very happy at Manchester City with three years left on his current contract, having been there for one-and-a-half years already.'' Liverpool are still likely to push to sign the experienced defender, who may ultimately grow tired of finding himself in a similar position to the one that drove him out of Chelsea, and the source maintained that a move could yet happen. ''We all know in football that the situation can change,'' he said. ''If Liverpool are serious, and get some money in by selling one of their big stars, they could make an offer for Wayne, and who knows then if the situation changes." http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/trans...e-to-liverpool
I don't think we should be buying other teams cast offs. Bridge was caught for pace time and again last season. I would suggest Paul Konchesky as a better alternative.
