This is a bit of a strange situation with the two hosts Austria & Switzerland along with the champions Greece been in the top pool, have we ever seen a weaker top pool for a tourament...?Some great possibility's for groups.

I am not sure how they picked the one remaining team for pot one sure Holland did not even top there group.I would have put the world champions in.

You can be sure there will be one complete group of death to come out of that lot.

Bizzare seeding to say the least.

From the Uefa website....

"The system is based on the results of the qualifying competitions – a cycle of two competitions, that is to say one EURO qualifying competition and one World Cupqualifying competition."

In contrast to that you could have

Austria
Croatia
Romania
Poland

You wouldn't exactly be running home from work to catch the kick off in this group with ya. I know the top seeds had to include the hosts and holders, but to see France in as 4th seeds is just plain ridiculous.

Just after finding an explanation to the seeding process, its all based purely on qualifying only over the past two tournaments. You'd have thought they'd include the World Cup finals in some shape or form, to have WC winners Italy behind Holland is strange, to have WC finalists France as bottom seeds is just plain baffling!

The draw for the final tournament is scheduled for December 2, 2007. In a return to the format used at Euro 92 and Euro 96 the games in each group will be held at just two stadia, with the seeded team remaining in the same city for all three matches.

As was the case at the 2000 and 2004 finals, the finalists will be divided into 4 seeding pots, based on average points per game in the qualifying phases of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2008, with each group having one team from each pot.

Switzerland and Austria, as co-hosts, and Greece, as defending champions, are seeded first automatically. The Netherlands are seeded based on their UEFA coefficient in the Euro 2008 finalists ranking

France's large number of draws in the 2006 World Cup qualifying tournament, plus their two defeats to Scotland in the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying saw them seeded in the bottom pot (note that teams' records in the World Cup Finals are not counted). This raises the prospect of a so-called group of death of Netherlands, Italy, France and either Germany, Spain or Portugal.
