AGGER PLEDGES FUTURE TO REDS 21 Jun 2010 - 09:37:27 http://www.football.co.uk/liverpool/agger_pledges_future_to_reds_313207.shtml Defender Daniel Agger has pledged his future to Liverpool despite the continued uncertainty surrounding the Anfield club. Agger is currently away on World Cup duty with Denmark but insists his club future is not an issue despite the recent departure of manager Rafael Benitez and uncertainty at boardroom level with the Reds up for sale. Liverpool have yet to appoint a new manager but Agger claims he is happy at Anfield. "I have no thoughts about leaving Liverpool," he said. "I have a four-year contract, I intend to stay and I want to stay, no matter who the manager is. "Of course, I hope it's a manager who believes in me. I have to show what I can do, I know that. "I like Liverpool as a club, I like Liverpool as a city, I have no reason to leave and I think my team-mates feel the same way. "Everybody knows that Liverpool is a big club, a great club. From the inside, I can tell you it's a great club." It would be nice to hear a few more big players come out and say something like this, if only to show a bit of unity, it would also make me feel a bit better
Arsenal and Tottenham Consider January Move for Liverpool Defender Daniel Agger Arch North London rival Arsenal and Tottenham are rumoured to be set to fight it out for Liverpool defender Daniel Agger. The Danish international currently has a back problem but has also had recent run-ins with boss Roy Hodgson and could well be available for the right price. The 25 year old former Brondby man spoke out during an interview with Danish TV about his opinions of Hodgson’s tactical approach and even when fully fit he appears not to be a player the Anfield boss sees as first choice a fact borne out by the fact that Agger has started just three Premier League matches this season with another three appearances from the bench. The adaptable talent can play at left back as well as his more customary position in the centre of defence and has a fair bit of ability on the ball and the ability to score some quality screamers from long range. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is having a central defensive nightmare this season with most of his options sidelined with long term injuries and the White Hart Lane boss has stated publicly that he will be looking to strengthen this area as soon as possible. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has also stated his desire to bring in another defensive option and Agger’s proven Premier League credentials may make him an ideal candidate to bring in to the Emirates. Daniel Agger wouldn’t appear to be the type of player to attempt to force his way out of a club he clearly has a great affinity for but if he felt that he was fighting a losing battle to prove to Hodgson of his worth then if the right bid came along then perhaps the Liverpool boss would happily accept it. Some Danish sources believe that a move is inevitable and that the player would seek to stay in England if he felt he had no future on Merseyside. http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/1...ary-move-for-liverpool-defender-daniel-agger/
ive a feeling he'll be sold in january to be honest - think he's been living off a few decent performances in the early part of his liverpool career but even when fit hodgson doesnt fancy him as first choice centreback...and in fairness neither did rafa as he would nearly always play carra and skertl. and with the rise of soto's stock i reckon he wont be too happy sitting on the bench. if spurs still have the injury crisis at centreback (esp with woodgate and king's long term injuries) i could see spurs trying to get him but not arsenal as i reckon they have enough there having signed three in the past two summers. could be used in part of a swap deal for pavlechenko or something like that
Would sell Agger hasn't really built on what was a good start to his Liverpool career and is very injury prone. Not sure about selling him to Arsenal or Spurs though. And need to get in a replacement with a bit of pace too.
Id have no issues selling him to either of them, I dont rate him that highly. But as I posted about him before, at the moment Id rather have him as an LB over anyone at the club currently.
Caught offside so just made up, but I'd gladly sell Agger, in the last 3 and half years he's missed 60% of games through injury and has been poor alot. We cannot build a team around a liability like that
In fairness, he wasn't alone in the City game. We were beaten all over the pitch. We tried 4-4-2 and it didn't work, we were exposed all over the pitch. I agree with you that he isn't reliable due to injuries but when he plays he is a fine player and still only 25.
I did and he was equally as bad as many others that day in fairness. Let me start by re-itterating I dont rate him, but Insua, Aurellio and Konchesky ... Agger starts for me. Thats how poor we are are LB
Dunno why everyone thinks Konchesky is so bad he was brought in to do a job and was never gonna be world class and he's doing that job fine had a great clearence off the line to keep the game level at Napoli and would have had another against Blackburn but was unlucky the ball hit Carra. Definately better than Agger at lb!
Depends who the manager is. Hodgson will sell him in a heartbeat, someone else maybe not. IMO selling him in January would be a bad move finacially, we'd be lucky to get the 5m we paid for him and be stuck with two old centre halves who can't pass a ball between them. We have way more important issues to address before looking at centre backs.
So its a good financial decision to keep paying a player who's out injured or misses games with a head cold every other week? If we buy a centre half in January and we have the same manager Agger will be gone, he's really not as good as he thinks he is, and is nearlly as bad as Aurellio regarding his problems.
agree 100% - i actually think he's growing into the role and getting used to playing in this defence which will always take time, very good in the last 3 games and had some nice passes, one beautiful one to cole and anothe excellent cross on the run but noone attacked it in the box. agianst the standard muck u play in the prem most weeks he'll rarely let u down. i mean for 3.5m i think we're getting our moeny's worth...if we had paid 18m for him i'd expect world class in both defence and attack...actually i'd expect ashley cole
We should get 10m for him at least and if we did I'd bite their hand off. Hasn't progressed enough for me, isn't hard enough to be a centre half, always injured.
