Anyone an expert in all thiings Playstation 3? Where are the best deals at the mo? I just about to purchase and wondering whether to buy a cheaper console via ebay or something like that or whether to buy the 40g version or the 60 g one, me head is wrecked. any knowldege would be appreciated. This is what I know.

all games are region free so it doesnt matter where you buy either

the blu rays dvds are region encoded

the newer 40 g version wont play PS2 titles

Thats true now mate, but manufacturers have the option to regionalise games should they wish. No sign of them doing it yet, but if they start doing it over the next year and you buy a console from the Japan market, you could be fairly sickened playing Japanese Pro-Evo in two years time!

As for 40gb not playing PS2 title, someone is bound to come up with a chip to counteract that sooner or later, but if you really want to play PS2 titles on the PS3, my advice would be to stump up that little bit extra and get the 60gb before they are gone for good.

Id go for the 60g,bigger storage, more usb and other connections and backwards playable. Its a great machine, I use it for movies(Blu Ray and Upscale of DVDs is class) just as much as gaming, Fight Night,Tiger Woods and Pro Evo(despite its flaws) keep me up half the night. That offer for 499 is very good considering I paid 629 just for the console on launch night
