Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he would like to bring Liverpool ace Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge. Torres' future at Anfield has been the subject of conjecture in recent weeks following Liverpool's failure to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League and their much-publicised financial problems. Chelsea star Didier Drogba fuelled rumours of a move for Torres by revealing earlier this week the Spaniard would be his ideal strike partner. Ancelotti has now refused to rule out a move for Torres, with Manchester City also thought to be weighing up a mega bid for the player. "It's not only Drogba - I would like to play with Torres. He's a very good player," said Ancelotti. "But this is not an issue for now. He is a Liverpool player and is a good striker but we have two fantastic strikers and this is not for this moment."
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has revealed he would love it if Fernando Torres jumped ship to Stamford Bridge this summer. Drogba clinched the Premier League's golden boot award last weekend as the Blues romped home to claim the title with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Wigan. He has been partnered by French forward Nicolas Anelka this season but admits he would welcome any move for Liverpool star Torres, which has been speculated. "I have heard the talk about Torres maybe coming in and I would welcome it, of course," he said. "Every time there is a new player coming here it's making the club bigger and giving us a lot of strength. "If there is a chance for him to come he will be welcome, because any help is welcome." Drogba has netted 84 Premier League goals in 166 appearances since his move to Chelsea in 2004 but knows the last campaign has been the best of his career so far. "This has been the best season of my career. In 2007 I scored 33 goals and 20 in the league and really it's amazing," he added. "I feel that, season after season, I'm getting better. "I want to finish the job this year with the FA Cup final. To win the double would mean a lot to the club and to us as players." Cup task Chelsea take on Portsmouth in the cup final at Wembley on Saturday as they look to win the domestic double. Certain quarters have claimed that Carlo Ancelotti's side are ageing and that the Italian will have to bring in younger reinforcements this summer, but this is something Drogba refutes. He remarked: "There are still some seasons left for this team. I would say the team is not getting old, it's getting a lot of experience. "I think the Inter Milan team are all about 37, and they are in the Champions League final. "Age doesn't really affect the team, it's more about confidence and knowing you can play well. There's a right balance to it and I think we've found it." .
I would be surprised if any manager didn't want to bring Torres to their club. He is a fantastic player. It doesn't make it any more (or less) likely to happen though.
They are asked the question by journalists, "would you like to sign Torres" ... what are they supposed to say. Don't mind the tabloids.
Drogba Torres strike force would never work. If Torres started banging them in then Drogba would start sulking. Infact the thought of it makes me sick.
No Tabloids et al are just trying to get the latest headline by twisting meaningless phrases into full length stories to cover the gap up until the World Cup
There have been offers for him before I think and it was rumoured to be Chelsea, can't see him going there to be honest, he refused to go to any English club before apart from Liverpool so hopefully now it will be no different.
Can't see nando goin to Chlski or City...if he goes he'll either head to back to Spain or Italy...one good thing about him he's not money orintated so they can offer him everything they want but think he'll stay for abit longer....fingers crossed....
lads its all part and parcel of having one of the best in the world at the club, 99% of world clubs "want" torres. take it as a compliment.
I dont think they should be talking as openly as they are about another culbs player - they should say yes a fantastic player but he is under contract at another club so it be wrong to talk about him - simple. City and chelsea be bidding for him in the summer, make no mistake - i just hope barcca never cop on and realise he would be the perfect perfect striker for them and something they need cause i could see him perhaps moving there, not to either chel or city though!
Id say more City. They'd just been taken over and were goin mad tryin to sign someone. Chelsea hadnt been throwin money about as much.
City were long taken over at that stage and had about 6 strikers on their books by deadline day last year. So I wouldn't say they were going for Torres as well.
I'd say Rafa would be on the case, if whats happened to date met the criteria for "publically tapping up" Torres .... so expect it's borderline, but not quite public enough or something. My BIG fear here, is that with the bloomin' yanks still at the club as shareholders, they might just try and sell him, to cover this years loan repayments, before RBS gets a chance to throw them out !!!!
