Unless this game is going to be shown on Setanta Ireland. I can't see it being a pick. I am not sure if Sky have 2 or 3 games saved for Sunday. According to the schedule it is 2 but they could still put another game on the red button anyway if they have another pick left. ESPN have 1 match to show. We will know after tomorrow night.

I'd like to see Pacheco get his first prem start. The future looks like its gonna be now with whats happening at the club so why not get the young lads in for a taste. Also looking at Aquilani to start another consecutive game after a decent run which can only be good as its only now we're starting to see what he can bring to the team.

Sign off with a win & be ready for a circus of a summer for Liverpool Football Club.

Setanta cannot choose the same game as Sky. Because once Sky pick a game they have exclusive TV right's for Ireland for that match.

We will know what games are on tomorrow. Tonight's game result will have a major bearing on the choice of ESPN.

Would be great to see Pacheco and Ayala start this one, give them some more first team experience...A win and a few goals would be nice...
But ill be glad to see the back of this season..hopefully get rid of those 2 leeches in the summer and get some stability back to the club...

In an idead situation I would agree with giving young Danny Pacheco his first start but Sunday's game still means that Liverpool have to play for a victory first and foremost.

If Blackburn and Villa draw and Liverpool win. Liverpool will finish 6th.

The difference in finishing 6th and 7th is massive.

Finishing 7th would mean starting the season on July 29th in the Europa League. With so many Liverpool players at the World Cup this summer this would be a total disaster. The Premiership begins on August 14th. By finishing 6th the Europa League campaign would not begin until August 19th.

If thats the case I'll be holding off on booking any travel to Mönchengladbach for the time being. A few sunny days in Adriatic Europe wouldn't go astray for a Euro away that time of year though :)

Back on topic, neither the Woolshed or Fraizers have this game down in their schedules for this Sunday, preferring instead to concentrate on some title race and the race for 4th

Lionel seeing as your the go 2 man on UEFA facts could you answer this for me. If we played Nando in the 1st round would that disquailify him from all CL matches for an other club?

Lionel seeing as your the go 2 man on UEFA facts could you answer this for me. If we played Nando in the 1st round would that disquailify him from all CL matches for an other club?

Very good question Bobby, As far as I aware from reading the rule which I have posted below. Is that if Nando was played in the in the opening Europa League qualifiers. It would only be possible for him to then be played in the Champions League last 32 onwards providing that Liverpool were still not involved in the Europa League competition last 32 in 2011.

If Maxi Rodrigues former team Athletico Madrid had been knocked out of European Competition. Liverpool would have been able to play him in the Europa League knockout stages this season.

Hope this makes sense.

As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA
Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for
more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally,
however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second or third qualifying
round of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to
play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another
club as from the group stage, provided that his former club did not qualify for
the group phase of either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa
League; moreover, as from the start of the round of 16 (round of 32 for UEFA
Europa League), a player can be registered in accordance with paragraphs
18.17 to 18.20 below. For the avoidance of doubt, a substitute player who
has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the
UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the
same season, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in
accordance with the present regulations.

For all matches from the start of the round of 16, a club may register a
maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the
current competition. Such registration must be completed by
1 February 2011 (24.00 CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be
extended.

One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
− in the same competition for another club; or
− for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Europa League,
his former club must not have played in the UEFA Europa League at any
point in the current season.

If that was the case what four would be on, the top two and there isn't really anything else left to play for, the relegation spots and champions league spots are already decided!

Last year the first qualifying match Fulham had to play was on the 30th of July which is around the time of a late pre season game when most of the first team players would be coming back anyway so I can't see those two games making a huge difference.

Jack Robinson
Born 01/09/1993 Defender
Academy scholar who first played in 2008-9
He has been capped for England at U17-level

Rafa Benitez believes there are already signs that our new-look Academy is producing exciting talent.

The gaffer instigated big changes down in Kirkby last summer, with the likes of Frank McParland, Kenny Dalglish, Pep Segura and Rodolfo Borrell being drafted in.

One player they are nurturing is 15-year-old left-back Jack Robinson, who was invited to train with the first team last week.

Benitez is hopeful the teenager and several other Academy scholars will soon be ready to train regularly alongside the likes of Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.

"Jack was okay," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv. "He was a little bit shy at first, a little bit quiet. But the senior players were helping and supporting him. The first training session is never easy but little by little he was better.

"We have to go one step at a time, they have to progress through different teams, but it's always important to meet someone and give the others the message that they can progress if they're doing well. It's a good message for the others now because they have extra motivation.

"We didn't have too many players of the level we were expecting but now the atmosphere is really good and we have more players with quality.

"They have some players in each group and the other day I got a report with different names and different players - but still they are young so they have to keep working very hard if they want to be in the Reserves and then the first team."

Dont argue with a idiot? Is that contradiction intentional in your tagline?

I think Kopirish was referring to the fact that Rafa may have been making a point to the owners and chairman that he had to play a kid because he hasn't been able to buy who he wants (not saying I agree).

Nothing match, forget about this season its over now. Thank Fowler.

ah its a nothing match now, if you did not know if we won we would finish above villa and we would not have to start our season in july, in my book theres never a nothing match, tell that to the 4,000 fans who made there way to the ground and sang and gave there all.

Why so? Why else would a player to plucked from nowhere and stuck on for a few minutes. Plenty of players plugging away in reserves this season. This lad has hardly even played a reserve game. Another strange decision in a season of many.

There was a pitch invasion after game(hull fans wanting to "hug" their players) big crowd formed around gerrard, taking pics etc and the stewards/police had to assist in getting him off the pitch

I can guarentee you if we had Nando,Maxi,Johnson etc. and destroyed Hull today there would be lads on here saying "Too little too,late-ffs Rafa, why haven't we been doing that all year" or "Beating fcuking Hull is all well and good but today was a total dead rubber anyway, why the fcuk didn't the youngsters get a game".

Today's performance summed up the season as a whole. Lacklustre with no spirit, no heart, no passion, no conviction, no balls & nowhere near enough quality.

This performance like the majority of others this season was just not good enough.

On a plus side, thank you God for finally putting us out of our misery today.

I reckon Rafa brought him on to make a point rather than because of his quality. Looks good when we are trying to attract young players if we can say well look at this chap who gets a game a 16. I imagine we are a better prospect now for young talent as we have no money.

Whatever way you look at it this was another poor performance to round off a shambolic season. Do I really need to go through the line ups from each team, talk about experience and caps and costs etc? The Hull team was full of kids and we couldn't even turn them over. i know we have hit the woodwork more than any other team but we have been just crap all season. It really upsets me to hear Benayoun sounding off in the media about how poor we have been, he has been part of it! We haven't shared the goals about and that has been our downfall especially when Torres spends such long periods on the sidelines. Auilani failed to grab this game, Kuyt is truely woeful up front, if only Babel was Kalou and all that without really giving any youngsters a chance. I fear it will only get worse!!

Maybe the youngfellow Robinson is just a good player and ye're getting carried away with the conspiracy theories.

Fowler, Macca, Fadregas, Rooney, Giggs all broke onto the scene at 16/17/18. I remember Carra praising that young fellow lately which is unusual for a 16 Year old and imo Rafa wouldn't play him just to make a point.

Hull 0 Liverpool 0

And so Liverpool’s season of 2009-2010 wilts to its apathetic end. In a match that mattered little, Liverpool couldn’t muster up a goal that would have given them a win and 3 points and enough to finish 6th rather than 7th, Liverpool’s worst finish in Benitez’s reign and the worst since 1999, 11 years ago. Yes, it is that bad. It was a dull match that mirrored the dull season for both clubs with both sets of fans pondering the future of their clubs.

Rafa Benitez lined up Liverpool in his customary 4-2-3-1 format, with Mascherano remaining as a stand-in right-back, with El Zhar and Babel both starting.

———— Reina ————
Masch - Carra - Kyrgiakos – Agger
--------- Gerrard - Lucas ----
El Zhar - Aquilani --- Babel
——––––– Kuyt ———

Rafa brought on N’Gog at 62 minutes for El Zhar in an attempt to change things, with Kuyt going out to thr right, and Pacheco got a run at 73 minutes. A surprise bench and then sub appearance for a very young Jack Robinson followed on 87 minutes which made him at 16 years and 8 months the youngest player to ever appear for Liverpool. Why this was done who knows, as his few touches were little value to him or the club. Was this Rafa saying that he is now in charge of the youth programme? Perhaps, as the lad hasn’t even broken into Liverpool’s reserve team. It may indeed be Rafa’s last playing decision for Liverpool FC, we will see.

Liverpool had a good start to the match with El Zhar forcing their keeper into a fine save and then Kuyt had a shot headed off the line. Then Aquilani who was once again in the advanced role and ahead of Stevie Gerrard put a shot barely wide. At the other end Vennegoor of Hesselink had a chance that he headed straight at Reina. Cullen looked spritely up front for Hull but wasted two chances. Then Aquilani had a strong shot which unluckily came off the underside of the crossbar with the rebound falling to Agger who should have done better with the follow-up.

Hull had a close chance in the 2nd half when Cullen nearly capitalised at the back-post, and Hull gave as good as they got. If anything, Liverpool looked tired of this season, and who can blame the players really? I always find that football professionals really show that they are professionals in such ‘dead rubber’ matches. Could any of us if we were really a player playing for Liverpool all season have gone out and busted a gut. Benitez brought on the very if not too young Jack Robinson who probably should have been doing his homework and then Stevie G went alone and nearly scored the goal, cannoning a shot off the post with their goalie beaten. Once again showing that he plays with his heart for Liverpool FC, no matter what some of the doubting fans may indicate. Mind you, it was Hull that had the final say when they shot just over the bar at the end. All this from a relegated side. The tally at the end of the match read Hull’s 11 attempts to Liverpool’s 19.

Meanwhile Aston Villa lost, as did Spurs who could afford to. At the top, te race continued but with Chelsea hammering Wigan 8-0, the title is theirs. With a very impressive 103 goals, th8at is certainly a benchmark that Liverpool would love to emulate some day. Liverpool end up 7th with 63 points, quite disappointing really, and a massive 23 points behind Chelsea.

The final table is:

Team P GD PTS
1 Chelsea 38 71 86
2 Man Utd 38 58 85
3 Arsenal 38 42 75
4 Tottenham 38 26 70
5 Man City 38 28 67
6 Aston Villa 38 13 64
7 Liverpool 38 26 63
8 Everton 38 11 61
9 Birmingham 38 -9 50
10 Blackburn 38 -14 50
11 Stoke 38 -14 47
12 Fulham 38 -7 46
13 Sunderland 38 -8 44
14 Bolton 38 -25 39
15 Wolves 38 -24 38
16 Wigan 38 -42 36
17 West Ham 38 -19 35
18 Burnley 38 -40 30
19 Hull 38 -41 30
20 Portsmouth 38 -32 19

No Liverpool fans can be happy with the season. As mentioned before, there are so many questions now surrounding Liverpool FC. The owners are forced into selling the club so the future is unknown. The best players may not want to stay around. The manager has a good financial deal but surely would take a new opportunity if one presents itself and for the same money. Its not as if he is just about to have a breakthrough season at the club, is it?

Its difficult times for Liverpool FC ….

JACK ROBINSON was still on cloud nine today as he relived the moment he became Liverpool’s latest record breaker.

Though the Reds’ 0-0 draw with Hull City on Sunday was instantly forgettable, for Robinson – who has starred for Rodolfo Borrell’s Under-18 side as an attacking left-back – it will forever live in his memory.

His four minute cameo at the end of the second half ensured, at 16 years and 250 days, he became the youngest player ever to represent Liverpool ahead of Max Thompson, who was 17 years and 129 days when making his debut in 1974.

What made the feat all the more remarkable is that Robinson has yet to make an appearance for the reserves and was only called up to the squad that travelled to Hull at the last minute.

He, though, has no intentions of letting the moment go to his head and knows there is plenty of hard work ahead if he wants to graduate from Liverpool’s Academy with honours.

“It was an amazing feeling to get on and a very exciting moment,” said Robinson, a lifelong Liverpool fan who was born in Warrington but now lives in Crosby.

“I only found out for certain that I was in the squad on Saturday morning but it was completely unexpected. It’s a dream come true.

“Sammy Lee called me on Saturday and when he told me that I was going to be in the squad, I just went into shock. I couldn’t speak because of the excitement.

“I knew it was going to be a great experience and just sitting on the bench would have been good enough but it became even better to get on.

“It was the first time that I have ever travelled with the squad and I’ll never forget it; I still can’t believe that I’ve made a little bit of history.”

Though he had very little time to make an impact, Robinson did provide the pass which set Steven Gerrard free to slam a shot against the base of the post and the captain had been quick to pass on advice before the game.

“I’ve had a good season with the Academy but all I want to do now is keep working hard over the summer and make sure I’m ready for pre-season,” said Robinson.

“I’ll make sure I get down to the beach and do some extra running to stay in shape. Stevie and Jamie Carragher were great beforehand. They told me to enjoy every minute – and I did!”
