Any credibility to Carlos Tevez heading to Anfield. Seen it in the Rumour pages yesterday and again today. Seems like he's fed up with Mancini and wants out. Tink he would be a great addition to our squad.

Tevez has showin already he has no loyality whatsoever by moving from United to City, so it would not suprise if he did move to us at some stage.
Two things though
- LFC dont have 30 odd quid to buy him never mind 30 odd million
- He will want to be in the Champions League.
I could see him playing for Real or Inter next season. He will be one of the stars of the World Cup if Maradona plays to the Argies strengths

Agree with all u've said...but i do see the number 18million been bandied about think there might be some sort of buy out clause in his contract... pity though would really be a good acquisitation...

Another piece of gossip...
Liverpool are chasing Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra.
Farid Raayad, Bougherra's agent, has confirmed the interest of Liverpool in the ex-Charlton Athletic stopper.
“There is serious interest from three clubs and Liverpool's is the strongest but it depends on the future of Benitez,” Raayad told the Daily Record. “Panathinaikos are also interested as are Fenerbahce.”

Even if we had the money ....
1.Can't see City selling their best player to any club in the premier league who would be challenging them for the Title or a top 4 finish.
2.More than likely we cant offer Tevez champions league football.
3.His wage demands would be more than any our top players are earning ..

Was the one i wanted last year to "replace" xabi, if it didnt happen then, it wont now.
Nevermnd the fact he's a bit of a loola and says he wants to go back to boca in 3 years or so, so would have zero sell-on worth.
Are we really gonna start topics om every single player we dont have a chance in hell of signing unless we get some money?

I forgot about him saying he was considering retirement a few months ago. Good point, he's a quality player but could be a liability. He could end up like Adriano being released from his contract for nothing!
To be fair, none of us know what the financial situation of the club is regarding transfers. I didn't even think we had £1.7M spare for Shelvey.
No harm in discussing any transfers in my opinion, with only 2/3 games of the season left the website will be very quiet if the transfer forum isn't being used!

Tevez would be a fantastic buy, he has proven this season that he is a finisher and not just a workhorse that chips in goals ala Kuyt.
If would be a real perfect fit with him a Torres, beauty and the beast, Torres with his finess and Tevez with his more battering ram approach.
Thats in an ideal world though, we dont have the money to a) sign him and b) pay the sort of wages he would demand and would upset out wage structure at the top end.
At least we would be buying a quality finished article, who has adapted to the PL and would have his best mate already at the club so would settle.
Personally if Tevez was the only signing we could muster this summer it would vastly strenghten our team and should be jumped at, a perfect partner and cover for Torres and they would potentially be a 50 goal plus a season partnership meaning we could afford to conceed a few sloppy goals when you have 2 world class strikers up the other end running defences ragged.

I think unless the club is sold before the transfer window closes you can assume that any player we are linked with that costs more that £5/£6m is all rubbish.
G&H are not going to invest or allow any money to be spent this summer when they are looking to sell so its going to be a player or two out to get one in so as soon as we hear a name wiki him to get an idea of what he would cost and if it more than £6m or so the story is bo!!ox and not worth commenting further on.

Rafa Benitez wants transfer guarantees from Liverpool for him to stay at Anfield.
The Times says Ben*tez will tell Liverpool that only a cast-iron commitment allowing him to invest all of the proceeds from player sales this summer will tempt him to remain at Anfield.
The Liverpool manager has been given until Monday to accept an offer of a four-year, £16 million contract from Juventus and he has consistently refused to rule himself out of the running for one of the leading jobs in Italian football.
But should Martin Broughton, the Liverpool chairman, offer the manager a guarantee that revenue from player sales will not be diverted to service the club’s £237 million debt, Ben*tez could be swayed from not bringing his six-year tenure at Anfield to an end.

Rafa Benitez will hold crunch talks with Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton today with his tenure as manager in the balance and the club reeling from Chelsea's bold move for Fernando Torres.
As Chelsea prepare to offer £70million for Liverpool's star striker, Benitez will meet Broughton in London and demand written assurances that all money raised from player sales can be used to sign new ones.
Benitez believed he had been given such a guarantee when he signed his new contract last year, but monies from sales have since been used to service the club's debts.
Unfortunately, Broughton is unlikely to be able to give 50-year-old Benitez the promise he is seeking, due to the chairman's non-executive role and the club's delicate financial state. That will frustrate Benitez further and push him into a corner over his future, which is still very uncertain with Juventus waiting for him to decide if he is keen to move to Turin at the end of the season.
Privately, Chelsea are surprised that their discreet move for Torres has become public. Yet the rumbling confusion over Benitez's future has encouraged them to believe they can be successful in their battle with Manchester City for the 26-year-old rated the world's best striker.
The divide between Benitez and the club's hierarchy seems to be growing wider with every day and the stark realisation that the talismanic Torres could be sold has brought the club's dramatic slide into sharp focus.
Juventus are waiting patiently for an answer on their four-year contract offer for Benitez, but the Spaniard is believed to have reservations about taking on the challenge in Turin with the club in such a state of transition. However, the sale of Torres would leave Liverpool in a similar situation and most probably turn dwindling public support against the manager.
If, as seems likely, Benitez does depart, the presence of Kop idol Kenny Dalglish as an intermin manager will at least appease fans as the club searches for a suitable replacement. However, the pressure will be on for them to make giant str ides quickly after such a disappointing season on all fronts.
The sale of the club is paramount to those changes, but the project Benitez began in 2004 seems no closer to completion. Although Liverpool have made plans to sign new players, the extent of that recruitment is difficult for them to predict.
The club have held preliminary talks with Real Madrid about Rafael van der Vaart and were linked with Real's Royston Drenthe and Guti yesterday, but any such moves are likely to be shelved until Benitez and Torres f inal ise their futures. Dutchman Drenthe has potential but Guti - although a free transfer - would be unlikely.
Fiorentina have expressed an interest in Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani, although his agent Franco Zavaglia said: 'I don't think there is anything concrete. It is still too early to tell if a deal is possible.
'First of all, the priority is to finish the season well. Then we will know what will be the future at Liverpool.'

Ones a right back and ones a winger .... anyway Adams contract was up at the end of this season and could have hung on and gone on a bosman ... so City Paid £8.5m in Jan 2010 for a player they could have got for free in a few months ..
and read some where he got a few million signing on fee than hang on until the summer ..
so probably paid £10.5m+ for a player on a bosman this summer ..

Liverpool are seeking to raise £35 million from summer sales.
The People says Reds boss Rafa Benitez has put £17m Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani up for sale after just one injury-hit season, along with Holland forward Ryan Babel, French striker David Ngog and Moroccan winger Nabil El Zhar.
The agents working for Benitez are looking for big prices, which is making it hard to shift the club’s dead wood.
Italian clubs are being tipped off that Aquilani can return to Serie A, but he will cost close to £15m.
Babel is also available if anyone is willing to part with a whopping £10m for the Dutchman.
Ngog, a willing deputy for Torres this season, arrived at Anfield for just £1.5m from PSG in 2008 – now the 21-year-old is rated at £10m by Benitez. El Zhar has made only a handful of appearances in four years – but the Reds hoping to cash in on the 23-year-old before his deal runs out.

Chinese internet gaming tycoon Zhu Jun has refused to deny claims he is interested in buying Liverpool.
Reports have claimed that Zhu, chairman of Nasdaq-listed online game company The9 Limited, has held provisional talks about purchasing the Premier League club.
Zhu, who already owns Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua, is said to have met with Barclays Capital, the investment bank hired to handle the sale of the Reds, in Hong Kong in late April and more recently in Shanghai.
Officials at Shanghai-based The9 would not confirm the talks had taken place, with company spokeswoman Phyllis Sai saying: "So far we have no comment on this."
Zhou Liang, Zhu's assistant, also gave an enigmatic response about whether the 44-year-old had held discussions with Liverpool about making a bid for the 18-time league champions.
"I cannot tell you any information at this moment," Zhou added.
"(The report) was information from the English side. Information moves very fast but there are some entities that need vehicles to travel. As soon as they arrive in China, we will let you know."

Liverpool are hoping to make a successful move for German international starlet Mesut Ozil this summer. Rafa Benitez is a big fan of the Werder Bremen attacker and hopes that he can convince the Bundesliga club to accept an offer in the region of £8m for the 21 year old. { 1 year left on his contract}
http://www.caughtoffside.com/2010/05/12/liverpool-ready-move-for-8m-bundesliga-starlet-rafa-shows-interest-in-mesut-ozil/
Don't know much about Valencia midfielder Ever Banega...
But Mesut Ozil is a very interesting option ...... £8m would be a steal imo . Perfect for a 4-2-3-1 system as can play in any of the 3 positions in the 3 behind Torres or in a 4-4-2 on either wing .Maybe a cheaper option to Ardan Turan.
Watched a good few games of Werder Bremen but it was Mesut Ozil who caught my eye .... Would be amazed if he goes for £8m but with only 1 year left on his contract it could be true ?

Yossi Benayoun’s agent admits the Liverpool FC midfielder would welcome a move to AS Roma but suggests his client is currently happy with life at Anfield.
The Liverpool FC star has been the subject of intense transfer speculation over his future, with the most recent rumour suggesting Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was trying to engineer a player exchange that would see Roman Pavlyuchenko moving in the opposite direction. Benyaoun’s agen, Ronen Katzaz, is acutely aware of interest in the Anfield playmaker but any deal would come down to Rafa Benitez’s willingness to sell.
Roma have made no official approach for the Israeli international and although Katzaz welcomed the interest from the Serie A side, he hinted Benayoun was unlikely to leave Liverpool FC this summer.
Katzaz told forzaromainfo: "We know about an interest from Roma, and there has been plenty of talk about this, but we have not had any contact with the directors,”
"Roma would be nice, but my client has a contract with Liverpool and he is fine in England."

Liverpool are lining up a bid for Italian striker Giampaolo Pazzini this summer as Rafa Benitez looks to bring in new attacking options to his faltering Anfield side. After a break out season at Sampdoria the 25 year old has become a target for many sides looking to lure the former Fiorentina man away from the Genoa side.
The Merseyside club have found themselves too reliant on Fernando Torres over the past two seasons and Benitez is looking to bring in reinforcements. Whilst the club have secured Milan Jovanovi? on a free deal they are still hopeful of bringing in another striker to the club.
Pazzini is valued at around £11m and whilst Liverpool are in financial difficulties Benitez believes he can finance any deal for the Italian international by selling some of his squad players. The likes of Albert Rieira, Philipp Degen and Ryan Babel could all be set to leave the club this summer and their sales would help bring in money to help any move for the Italian interanational.
Liverpool and Aston Villa have joined the race for Carlton Cole after it emerged last night that West Ham rejected a £10million bid for the striker.
The offer has come from Birmingham who are desperate to prise the England frontman away from Upton Park.
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has spoken directly to Hammers chief executive Karren Brady about a deal made up of £8million cash with £2million in bonuses.
The offer was rejected out of hand by Brady, whom City believe is trying to spark an auction for the player.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly interested in bringing talented Spaniard Jesus Navas to Anfield this summer
The Sevilla winger has been in sparkling form this season helping his side to a Champions League finish as well as clinching a spot in Vicente Del Bosque's provisional World Cup squad.
The £12m rated one club man has been on the books at Sevilla since the age of 15 and has steadily made himself an integral part of the La Liga club's plans and has helped the side to two UEFA Cup triumphs and has provided the ammunition for the likes of Freddy Kanoute and Luis Fabiano for a number of seasons.
Rafa is looking for more natural width on the right having used Dirk Kuyt in an unaccustomed right wing role for some time now. Navas can also play out on the left where the likes of Albert Rieira and Ryan Babel have struggled to prove themselves at the Merseyside club.
A number of clubs are reportedly keen on the 24 year old winger but given the abundance of fellow Spanish internationals at Anfield, Liverpool must feel they have a pretty good shot at beating other potential suitors to Navas should he decide the time is right for a new challenge.

I wonder where this money is going to come from??? There will be no major signings at Liverpool until we get rid of Dumb and Dumber and our debt is cleared. We can sell the likes of Degen, Babel, Reira, etc, but that money wont be going towards future signings, just to our creditors.

We need a striker and there was times last season we could have done with him. Until the ownership is sorted we'll be looking at bargain basement players(although 10 million is a lot for Cole). Liverpool turn down Arsenal’s £14 million bid for goalkeeper Pepe Reina
Sources at Anfield have confirmed that Liverpool have turned down a bid in the region of £14 million from Arsenal for keeper Pepe Reina. With Gunners fans feeling increasingly frustrated of Almunia and Fabianski’s recent performances at the Emirates stadium, it was only a matter of time before Arsene Wenger decided to splash the cash on a new number one.
Recent media speculation surrounding Arsenal has seen a number of goalkeepers linked with the London club but, to the surprise of many, it is Pepe Reina who has caught Wenger’s eye. Liverpool not only turned down the bid but also stated that Reina, who has won the Premier League Golden Glove award 3 times, was not for sale at any price. However in view of the current financial situation at Liverpool it was believed the bid would have been enough to tempt the Reds owners into accepting. With Cesc Fabregas’ future at Arsenal in the balance it could also be seen as a tactical ploy from Wenger to attract Spanish international Reina to the club as the two players are friends.
If Arsenal decide not to make an increased bid it could open the door to the transfer of Gianluigi Buffon who would jump at the chance to join Arsenal for Champions League football next season. However a more popular choice especially amongst the English supporters would be Joe Hart, who had an excellent season on-loan at Birmingham and could be persuaded to move from Manchester City with Shay Given cemented as the first choice keeper. Arsene Wenger has stated that any possible transfers will be completed before the start of the World Cup on June 11th – get ready for plenty of transfer activity in the next couple of weeks!

yeah i agree its RAFA'S favorite quote 'senior sources' at the club
Liverpool preparing double swoop for experienced duo
Despite being broke and the club in turmoil, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is not only staying at Anfield but intends to bring in new players even if he has to now seek approval from the clubs chairman Martin Broughton.
Liverpool will have a modest transfer budget for next season according to reports from financial websites (yes from financial websites) who have been reporting on Liverpool’s precarious financial state all season and the club will not be selling either Steven Gerrard or Fernando Torres but actually strengthening the squad with experienced Internationals.
Rafa Benitez is keen on Manchester City’s Steven Ireland and Chelsea’s Joe Cole, reports had surfaced that Liverpool could not meet Cole’s wage demands, however with Tottenham also baulking at Cole’s demands and his current club Chelsea not prepared to pay Cole what he wants the player now has to lower his financial demands.
The only problem for Liverpool is that Cole wants Champions League football something that Liverpool can no longer offer, that however is seen as a mild stumbling block and while Spurs remain favourites to end up with Cole, he could still end up at Anfield now that Benitez’s future is sorted and the almost certainty that Torres and Gerrard will remain Liverpool players.
Stephen Ireland wants out of Manchester City desperately, he is unhappy there and Liverpool have been linked with the player on a regular basis, City are prepared to listen to offers for Ireland who has accepted that he will not figure in Roberto Mancini’s plans next season and again Benitez will face stiff competition from Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham.
The advantage this time for Liverpool though is that Ireland wants to remain in the North of England and that has put Liverpool in the driving seat but and it is a big but, Man Utd are also said to be interested in the Man City midfielder and a move from Sir Alex Ferguson is seen as a bigger obstacle than a bid from Tottenham.
It at least appears that things are starting to settle down at Anfield, he club is now looking forward with a more positive outlook and the doom merchants that were writing off both Rafa Benitez and Liverpool may find that they have jumped the gun somewhat.
Fernando Torres is wanted by Chelsea and Barcelona
Tuesday May 18,2010
By Mauro Galluzzo for Express.co.uk
Comment Speech Bubble Have your say(1)
BARCELONA are ready to make an audacious bid for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.
Reports in Spain suggest that Barcelona are ready to outbid Chelsea for Fernando Torres.
Barcelona have appeared to have won the race to sign David Villa from Valencia.
And it is thought they will do whatever it takes to bring Torres back to Spain.
A deal to sign Torres would cost in the region of £70million, a figure that would push the limits of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's considerable purse strings.
Rafa Benitez has made it clear he wants to keep Torres if he remains in charge at the club and the player himself would have to ask for the move to force Liverpool's hand and spark formal negotiations.
Torres has so far remained eerily quiet on his future, as he and his advisors consider whether Liverpool can meet his personal ambitions and aims without Champions League football next term.

I think i'd cry if that happened - altho at leat we didnt pay (wasnt it) 18m for him in the first place. ok player but nowhere near the ability and football intelligence of yossi. the 4 chav players plus 40m would actually make me cry even more.
Liverpool are considering a shock move for Tottenham misfit David Bentley this summer.
Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in some bargains as he tries to add more creativity to his midfield using a shoestring budget and has identified the White Hart Lane man as a suitable target.
The former Arsenal man was excellent during the second half of the season when he got a run in the first team as a result of a long term injury suffered by Aaron Lennon. The 25 year old began to show the kind of performances that led to his big money move from Blackburn Rovers to Tottenham but is set for another season struggling to get into the starting eleven and so could be ready for a new challenge.
Harry Redknapp had made it clear that he would listen to offers for the England international and Rafa could well be ready to offer Yossi Benayoun in any deal. Benitez has used the Israeli international very sparingly over the past three seasons and is ready to consider a swap deal to help seal the deal. The north London club are keen to recoup as much of the £15m fee they paid for Bentley back in July 2008 as they can.
Liverpool have lacked natural width on the right for some time and have played Dirk Kuyt out on the wing for the best part of two years but the Anfield boss may feel that Bentley could offer more and is hoping that the carrot of first team football may help lure the Spurs man to Merseyside.

Benayoun seems to be on his way out of Anfield, with Chelsea linked to his signature as a replacement for Spurs-bound Joe Cole. If Cole decides to stay at Stamford Bridge, Benayoun would therefore be an obvious alternative for Redknapp.
Villa are on the lookout for a replacement for James Milner, should he decide to jump ship to Manchester City and Bentley would fit Martin O'Neill's English player transfer policy.

I had not realised the above posts were off the LFC.tv site. I never open those rumour pages off the Liverpool website and it really annoys me that the team website should have such rubbish published.
I wish I cold just hibernate for a couple of months until the silly season is over. At least when the world cup starts the 'journos' might have something credible to write about.
i know its strange to think the official website has a rumour section on its page doesnt make sense

Liverpool are looking to make a hopeful bid to bring Valencia attacker Juan Mata to Anfield.
Rafa Benitez is willing to offer Spanish international Albert Rieira as part of a cash plus player bid for the impish 22 year old.
Benitez is currently unsure of what sort of transfer budget he will be given this summer as the Merseyside outfit looks for new investment so is looking at ways to bring in new additions by offering players he deems as surplus to requirements.
Rieira has never really got going at the club since his move from Espanyol in September 2008 and was reportedly close to making a move to Russia two months ago but may now be used as a makeweight in a deal to sign £16m rated Mata who can play in a number of attacking positions ranging from an orthodox winger to part of a two man strike pairing.

I know what your saying about wages but I think if we can pick up a quality player (eg. joe cole) for free and pay 80k instead of getting a player for 7-10m and giving him 50k a week i think its worth the risk.

Ye, the 3 mentioned above would be great. I imagine with wages and the signing on fee that Voronin cost us money. Signing on fees for free players can be well over €1m, plus a huge agents fee. Also, have to be careful not to upset the balance of the squad if an "average" player is getting paid over the odds.

Both them got 4 year contracts worth £10m each, both involved a large signing on fee, they were not free, and when you think of how many minutes Degan has been on the pitch he's been probably the most expensive wages/minutes on field signing we've ever signed, Voronin got a hefty pay off leaving also so scrap any transfer fee there. Same with Maxi he was hardly free, hes on a super contract but in fairness hes a good player, I reckon he'll do very well for us next season.

Players are playing longer these days and Yossi in his later years could easily play to 35 playing in the hole behind a striker .. would expect a lot more than £6m especially from a club with plenty of cash.

Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has caused a combination of outrage and shock on Merseyside by an apparent public declaration that he wants to quit Anfield for Stamford Bridge.
Benayoun is quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: "Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6 million but I believe that in the end I'll be moving there."
That has sparked a combustible reaction in the Red half of Merseyside, with Liverpool fans confused whether the comment is factual or not and totally surprised by it.
Soccernet last week broke the news that Chelsea were considering a move for the Israeli captain. That, too, provoked disbelief.
But a source close to the 30-year-old midfielder told Soccernet at the time: "Nobody has spoken to me about interest from Chelsea, but it wouldn't surprise me.
"As for whether Yossi would want to go, he is the type of player who wants to play every game. When he is left out of the team, he wants to go, when he is in the team, he wants to stay. He keeps changing his mind as he has been in and out of the team all season."
Much of the surprise from Liverpool fans is due to the fact Carlo Ancelotti has expressed the desire to lower the average age of his Chelsea side and bring through younger players.
Yet Benayoun is 30, which flies in the face of that declared policy and gives credence to the suspicion that it cannot be true.
But there is continued uncertainty about the future of Joe Cole who is out of contract and available on a free transfer, as his contract talks have stalled.
Javier Mascherano is also on Chelsea's radar as Michael Ballack is nearing the end of his Stamford Bridge career, and Ancelotti is in need of an experienced midfield anchor man.
The big catch at Anfield, though, is Fernando Torres, and it is now widely accepted that the Spanish striker is top of Roman Abramovich's wanted list, and an initial £50 million plus player exchange offer is not far away.
There could be some fascinating exchanges of players between Anfield and the Bridge this summer, and the leeches {agents} are working away feverishly to see if it can happen.

Really find those comments hard to believe. However, he has hinted that he may be off in the summer.
Also 6 million would be a terrible deal for us. he has 3/4 years left without doubt and selling him to a premier league rival would be insane
We should be looking to keep hold of him unless we can get 10m+, he's one of our few creative players and someone we can rely on

Would leave us short on the wings if Yossi went , unless Rafa has a top target on the radar ?
El Zhar i can't see stepping up to the plate on the wings and Ryan's a enigma but i think we will see Rafa giving Ryan at least another season.

Wherein it comes to Spartak Moscow in 2008 nothing happened obviously { why is CSKA in my head ? } Benayoun rejected a £3.5 million signing-on fee {independent } , then in Jan it was reported by the sporting director of Dynamo Moscow that yossi had agreed terms with them but the club had said no to the sale after Rafa stopping it .
I'm almost sure the Sporting Director said the deal was done with us and it was up to the our board and not Rafa and the next few days the club came out saying no deal was or would be agreed.
Seems we will get this every transfer window but surprised by the QUTOES THIS TIME ...

It makes no sense, as mentioned by others here as well:
Selling him for £6m to Chelsea is madness. The club would want to be mental to allow that to occur. It's a win win for Chelsea if it happens. Unless Rafa knows something we don't, or has a massive plan hidden in his goatee.
The article includes a reference to Masch also leaving. If he does go, especially given recent supposed quotes, I very much doubt it will be anywhere that isn't very sunny (and potentially full of fellow Argies ;)).
Chelsea have an age problem in their squad, where it's been intimated that they will be looking at younger players. Why sign a 30 year old?
I like Yossi, but he's not a first teamer, lets be honest. I don't regard him as a traditional winger, he's more of a hole player imo. Why would Chelsea want him in the first place (I realise Cole is leaving, but....)?

Liverpool boss is reportedly considering making a move for former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi this summer.
Having left Old Trafford back in 2007 the New Jersey born Italian international has gone from strength to strength at La Liga side Villarreal and has been named in Marcello Lippi's provisional World Cup squad.
Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in new attacking options to help carry the burden that is placed almost entirely on the shoulders of Spaniard Fernando Torres and the Anfield boss may well be able to pick up the impish 23-year-old for a fee of around £12m.
Rossi has had three consistent seasons at Villarreal where he has managed 45 goals and made himself one of the most dependable strikers in Spain. His efforts have not gone unnoticed and fellow Premier League side Manchester City are also reportedly interested in snapping up his services.
The Liverpool manager could also tempt the Spanish side with the possibility of offering expendable Albert Rieira as part of any deal.

liverpool target could be on the way to birmingham
Sky Sports News sources understand that Birmingham City have agreed a fee in the region of £6million with Valencia for striker Nikola Zigic.
The giant Serbia international has been linked with City for several months, while Stoke, Blackburn and Sunderland were also said to be considering an offer.
Having cashed in on new Barcelona striker David Villa, Valencia are keen to raise further funds amid crippling debts and Birmingham will therefore hope to take advantage.
The Spaniards are also reported to be eager to cut Zigic from their wage bill due to a salary which is understood to be in the region of £60,000-a-week.
His representatives were previously thought to favour a loan move to England on reduced pay, but Birmingham could be on the brink of a permanent deal.
Zigic, who stands at 6ft 7in, would add a different dimension to Birmingham's attack as manager Alex McLeish plans for a push towards the European places in the new season.
The 29-year-old is currently preparing for this summer's World Cup with Serbia as they get ready for facing Germany, Australia and Ghana in Group D

he's a tremenduus talent and when playing well one of the best in england at what he does - and excellent first time passer as well. but he is a complete fruit bat, likely to whinge and moan a lot, may not always toe the line etc...all those are characteristics not conducive to good relations with raf, who likes strictly by-the book, ultra-disciplined, do-what-you're-told and play where you're put kinda players. so i cant see it happening - heard utd are interested in himn. i think he'd flourish there, he's exactly what they need...demento hs a good history of getting the best outta alcoholics, nutjobs, psycothic irishmen, poncing portuguese etc. if they get him and sell berb (for i'd expect 56m as they usually do get infltaed prices for their players) then utd will be seriously strong again as a modric type player is what they want and he'a slightly inferior and cheaper version of him

A few things in this post tell me we wont be signing many this summer
Mainly points 2, 4 and 6
We need to look at point number one there Faces and make the yanks our number one Priority this summer
:D
Believe me, I'd love nothing more than new owners and a massive warchest ASAP, but if I believe that right now I'm living in....

1). Don't we have higher priorities?
3). Where does he play in the team, i.e. who do we drop?

Spot on ..... unless somebody in the same position moves out ?

2). There is no money.

4). There is no money.
5). He's a head case, and therefore would probably be very difficult to manage?
6). There is no money.
Yes we have higher priorities but that doesn't mean we should turn a complete blind eye to the transfer market and let a quality player that we desperately need slip through our fingers. Surely we will have some money to spend on players this summer, especially if we sell some.
Don't really agree with this head case stuff. He doesn't come out moaning or giving stories in the papers. He wouldnt be disruptive to the squad and to be honest people dont give him credit for the amount of work and training he puts in. In the summer of 2008 he put is head down, didn't go on holiday and just trained all summer. This lead to him being one of the best players in the PL 08/09. He wouldn't take much managing he just needs to play.
Its pretty simple, he is a center mid. Without getting into an argument I don't think Lucas is good enough to be our starting center midfield. Plus him and Masch should never be in the same starting team. They don't complement each other, simple. So Ireland would play instead of Lucas.
I would be happy if he is the only player we sign this summer. I am sure we will be signing some players so lets no waste the money.

We were heavily linked with Milner before he moved to Villa and I remember Rafa being slated by Pool fans because of it!
Adam Johnson looks like a great talent but we didn't have a pot to piss in this January!
Correct on both counts.

I must say I think Ireland is a great player on his day. He was excellent the last 2 times I saw him play at Anfield. The problem is there are many games where he goes missing and has never turned up IMO against Mancs.
I reckon he would be worth a punt if very cheap, say Reira money, but where would you play him. I dont think hew is a good as Aquilani and I dont think he can do it on the wing. His ideal position is in the hole, but an on form Stevie would be way ahead of him there.
If we had money to burn I d buy him no question. Excellent squad player. But we dont, there are priorities left back, left wing and striker that need more urgent attention.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is considering moves for three Manchester City players who do not appear to be part of Roberto Mancini's long-term plans.
The Anfield manager is working hard to bring in new additions on a shoestring budget. He has already snapped up Jonjo Shelvey and Milan Jovanovic for next to nothing and now appears ready to tempt stars Nedum Onuoha, Micah Richards and Michael Johnson.
Benitez is keen to add more 'homegrown' players into his squad ahead of the new regulations set to be enforced by the Premier League next season and has therefore earmarked moves for these three Englishman who have all represented their countries at various levels, with defender Richards being the only one of the trio to have earnt full international honours.
The Spaniard has been linked with moves for Michael Johnson for some time now but could consider this summer to be the right time to nab a player who has had a string of problems both and off the field over the past two seasons during which time he has managed just three Premier League starts.
Micah Richards has been fighting for a regular first-team spot for some time now and has been linked with moves away from the club with both Tottenham and Aston Villa reportedly expressing an interest in the player who was a regular in the England set-up when Steve McClaren was at the helm. Nedum Onuoha was a player that Mark Hughes rated highly and the Nigerian-born former England U21 international put pen to paper on a five-year contract last summer but found himself out of the first-team reckoning when Mancini arrived, consigning the defender to just five starts last term.
Whilst Liverpool may not be able to afford moves for all three of the players seemingly deemed 'surplus to requirements' at the City of Manchester Stadium, Rafa will apparently look to pounce for this £22m rated trio this summer, dependent on how much money he can make from offloading some of his squad players.

I think an off form Stevie is still better than him. We need to be spending whatever cuple of shillings that are made available on a left back, a good winger & a decent back up striker. Dont we already have 4 central midfielders & young shelvey ready to prove himself anyway?

Haven't seen much of Rossi since he went to Spain but still young and interesting option swap for Reira.
Wasn't impressed when i seen him playing in the premier league for utd and Newcastle but seems he is doing well in Spain ?.
But where would we play him , isn't he just a support striker .. and we have Gerrard Alberto and Benayoun all better imo.

I think it is important to buy british with the new quota system coming in. We have been linked with Michael Johnson, Nedum Onhua, Micah Richards, James Milner, Joe Cole, Carlton Cole, Gary Cahill, Curtis Davies and Stephen Ireland. I'd love to see a few of these come in and with a british base we are sure to improve on last seasons debacle?
I really hope the fact that Danny Wilson won't count as a british player in the quota won't affect the transfer. He is a great wee player and would be a good signing for us. Liverpool have always had a Scottish element in the team and that seems to have disappeared in recent years with all the big money signings.
I'd like to see the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Graham Dorrans come in for relatively small fees in this day and age. Football is such big business and it requires instant sucess, the days of bringing a player in, giving him reserve outings and bedding him in are gone. i also like Chris Brunt as a bargain buy but would we really take a chance of the likes of these three?

Benayoun was excellent in the second half of last season, no doubt about it. Before that he did very little and this season he was in and out of a very poor side. For me, he needs to be playing in a team that is playing well. If Nando and Stevie are flying, he can effectively link up with them and he looks very inventive. If both are out of sorts or not in the side, he can't make the difference. He can't get into the game and a lot of them pass him by. He would though be a good signing for Chelsea as he will be surrounded by excellent players most weeks, I reckon he is going there to replace the departing Deco and Joe Cole in the squad. If we could get 8-10 million for a 30 year and replace him with a younger quality left sided player, I would not be too disappointed. I hope Maxi can be a big player next season on the right, with hopefully some sort of decent left sided player coming in.

Don't think the owners are making any decisions on who comes and goes just leaving it to Broughton/Purslow/Rafa to sort out , but cant see Rafa letting him go unless he is guaranteed the money .
Seems if you believe the press , Yossi wants out if Rafa still here as he doesn't think Rafa has enough belief in Yossi to play him regularly ..
Winger Simao Sabrosa could be set for a transfer to Liverpool this summer, where he will be paired with fellow former Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres.
The 30-year-old wide man is being lined-up by Rafael Benitez in a bid to solve the Reds' left-sided problems, with Albert Riera currently out of favour.
Despite having only three years or so left at the top level, Simao could end up costing Liverpool as much as £8million - although cash-strapped Atletico are reportedly keen to sell the player to raise funds.
Simao never actually played alongside Torres, as he arrived in the summer of 2007 at the same time as the Spanish striker left for Anfield.
Benitez believes Simao's pace and crossing threat could reduce the pressure on his star striker by adding a creative element down the left.
But the Portuguese has played down talk of a move.
'Nobody has spoken with me in the last days about this subject,' he said.
'I only say that some people in Madrid have suggested that Atletico are preparing my sale, but I don't know too much.
'I have always been interested in playing in the Premier League, but my head is in the World Cup and I have a deal with Atletico.'
Simao has one year left on his contract at Atletico, meaning a sale could be pushed through this summer or the Spanish outfit risk losing him for free in 12 months' time.

I actuallly thought since we got Maxi Yossi maybe sold, I hope we box clever here, we may only get around £6m for Yossi but we should try get a player we can use on loan for the season also, Sturridge would be a good player for us on loan, in the mean time the Yossi and hopefully riera money may get us in a position to bid for Turan.

I was shot down last year for suggesting we cash in on Yossi. He has been hugely frustrating and inconsistant with the exception of a 3 month spell last season. Must also be the player with the most amount of "lost in translation" quotes attached to him. Selling him now when he is 30 and out of form is a missed opportunity from Rafa, I hope he has a good plan.

£10m plus a player we could use on loan would be great business , especially if the money from Reira and Yossi was used to bring in Ardan Turan ...
Sturridge is a interesting shout , do they have a decent left back to loan out ...? Yuriy Zhirkov;)
Personally i would push them for a straight swap for Yuriy Zhirkov , never happen but why not be cheeky ..
Hasn't got many games for Chelsea and with Cashley Cole there he wont at left back , but ive impressed when ive seen him play for chelsea this season. { 10 PL starts}
Have a feeling even if we do have £15m kitty and all the money from player sales goes to Rafa and we dont sell any of our top players {Gerrard Torres Masch etc} , Rafa wont spend big on any one player but will bring in similar signings to Maxi Jovanovic trying to bring in quality Bosmans and decent quality youth signings that will be pushing to get into the first team very son { Danny Wilson Shevely etc }... hope he could still do that but add at least 1 signing in the quality of Ardan Turan to the side.

I think it's Rafas decision to sell, also by tying him in a longer term contract he is going to cost more for any prospective buyers.
Rafa has to sell to buy and with Benny more a squad player, he hopes to use the money from his sale to buy a player who will more than likely be a starter.
Bennys best position is playing off a striker, we already have Aqua,Stevie & maybe Shelvey who can all do that.
