Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni has named eight uncapped players in his squad for a summer training camp.

Sunderland midfielder David Meyler has been rewarded for his impressive form with his first call-up.

Portsmouth defender Marc Wilson, Derby midfielder Paul Green and Birmingham ace Keith Fahey have also been included in the 23-man squad.

Wolves duo Kevin Foley and Stephen Ward, Ipswich goalkeeper Brian Murphy and Everton defender Shane Duffy make up the rest of the uncapped players.

Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given misses out after dislocating his shoulder in the weekend draw with Arsenal.

Trapattoni is looking forward to working with the new players as he prepares for the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign.

"Training camps are useful for preparation as was proven by the one we held prior to our World Cup qualifying campaign.

"I look forward to working with these new players and learning firsthand what they have to offer as we begin to prepare for the European Championship qualifiers."

Remaining squad members will join the camp on May 22nd to prepare for the forthcoming pair of friendlies against Paraguay and Algeria on May 25th and 28th respectively.

    Republic of Ireland squad:

Keiren Westwood, Joe Murphy, Brian Murphy, Stephen Kelly, Eddie Nolan, Paul McShane, Shane Duffy, Kevin Foley, Stephen Ward, Marc Wilson, Darren O'Dea, Keith Treacy, Darron Gibson, Andy Keogh, James McCarthy, Liam Lawrence, David Meyler, Keith Fahey, Paul Green, Caleb Folan, Leon Best, Shane Long, Anthony Stokes

He's not a right back Ron. Attacking midfielder or winger he is, you must be confusing him with someone else;)

Don't the toffees have a promising Irish full back in their squad too? Can't think of his name to hand!

Delighted for Fahey and Meyler and even ex-gypo Murphy. Good to see Mccarthy moving up to the seniors aswell. Wilson had a decent first half of the season but tailed off a bit. Good to see Stokes may have realised he's not such a big shot and knuckling down to do his job..scoring goals.

Yeah he's a decent player alright, surprised he didn't get a call, although havn't heard much about him since he went out on loan. He was outstanding for shligo a couple of years back, really stood out.

Its just a chance for Trap to have a look at the new fellas. If we get 3-4 new players from it it would be great. Delighted for Fahy and Murphy.

No he started off with Sligo then Everton snapped him up at the start of 2009 and now he's on loan with Blackpool.
