Have to admit don't go to the cinema much at all these days while used to be a regular especially when Virgin cinemas had their one month passes for 15 quid and I live in Smithfield.
The last few years its been mostly to bring my daughter except for Lord of the Rings / Star Wars epics the kinda films you "have" to see on the big screen. Got out of going to the flixs on spec, turning up at random times without even checking whats on, because just so many films were turkeys and I genuinely wondered how they were ever made they're so bad. Celebrity seems to be all that matters in a lot of them. I don't mind a lighthearted yanky action or rom-com if it pops up on RTE at half 9 on a Wednesday but fcuked if I'm going to head out and pay to see such shallow sh1te.
Honestly the kids films I end up seeing are more gauranteed entertainment than most genres. Finding Nemo for instance was a good film full stop, honestly. Of course Shrek defined that middle ground for most.
Anyway is this Stardust any good for family viewing ? I just know it from the Take That song and clips on Jonathon Ross's show since his missus wrote it I think and from when Gervais was on.
Was meant to go to see Atonement as looked interesting with the Dunkirk scene but never got around to it. Just not in the habit these days. Deffo home entertainment has taken over for a hell of alot of people and most of it dodgily sourced.

It's perfect family entertainment, and good for the grown-ups too.
Ricky Gervais was good in it, but only had a very small role. There are a few more cameos also. Look out for David Kelly as the Gate Keeper.
Definately recommend it.

to be honest i didn't think much of American Gangster while it was a good film i thought it was going to be a lot better, maybe i was looking forward to it too much .I watched a film called P2 last night that was very good after a slow start (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0804516/) Death at a Funeral is not bad for a few laughs .. Also Good luck chuck is also a funny film with some fine women in it especially the finest of all Jessica Alba…. :) worth a watch just for her alone...Ratatouille will keep the kids entertained but you’ll probably enjoy a lot of it yourself.

Sounds on the money. Yeah thats exactly what I'd define family entertainment i.e. you can enjoy it as much as the young one as opposed to just a kiddies film (Garfield and it's ilk). I think commercially there's a big cop on that there is no point in making a kiddies only film though and truncating your market. I know adults that would watch Rug Rats without using kids (erm aka rug rats) as an excuse ;)

Best of them all... its even more fast paced, you can't take you eye of it for a second....
Saw Transformsers on Friday, and was pleastantly suprised, its really good. Special Effects bloody unreal. Also saw Die Hard 4 last week, excellent aswell although some fairly unbelievable stuff.
Going to see American Gangster tomorrow

Bourne Ultimatem is one of the best action movies ive seen in a long time...Its totally unreal. It has everything and theres a scene in the train station which just blew my mind, i really enjoyed that part. People are comparing the bournes with the bonds now....says something..

Regarding Bourne when I saw Casino Royale I left it thinking Id seen an average Bourne movie, with a few over the top stunt pieces. Bourne is the reason Bond went back to basics.
The scene in Supremacy where Julia Styles is being tracked through the market and side streets by the assassin and Bourne is chasing after them across the rooftops, while himself being chased by the police ending with one of the most vicious fights I can remember is my action scene of the year, just edging out the helicopter/police car chase in Die Hard 4.0.

It was good but it was the only stunt that they used CGI for which is why I dont rate it, too much CGI crap this summer. Even the car flipping in the tunnel and landing on the other 2 cars was done for real and they stuck Willis in after but the stunt itself was real.

Thats the weakest one IMO. Die Hard 2, the unedited version, is actually my favourite, it was interesting watching Kevin Smith interview Willis on the DVD of 4.0 cause Willis thinks 2 & 3 were complete rubbish and 4 is the first real sequel as far as he is concerned.
I just prefered there was more action in Die Hard 2 same as why I prefer Aliens to Alien although the sophisticated movie fan will say Alien is the best.

I second that motion.... Samuel L is brilliant in it. Some of the scenes in the fourth are great but quite unbelievable.

american gangster was excellent, it was slightly slow to build and had many cliches(photos on wall etc) but the payoff in the ending is worth it and very enjoyable. long film but you wont feel it

Eastern Promises - good, Stardust - v. enjoyable, but I would highly recommend Beowulf in 3d. Its not like the old style two tone cardboard specs where you have to wait about 15 mins for your eyes to get used to them before you see 3d. The 3d experience is instant now and had gasps and laughs from the whole cinema. Film wasnt great but just for a very different experience you should definitley check it out.

Rise of the Footsoldier anyone see ? one of the best films i've watched over the last year if not the best. this is not one if the kids are around..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0901507/ starts off with the west ham firm and just goes crazy..
Rise of the Footsoldier follows the inexorable rise of Carlton Leach from one of the most feared generals of the football terraces to becoming a member of a notorious gang of criminals who rampaged their way through London and Essex in the late eighties and early nineties. It is three decades of his life following him from football hooliganism, through to his burgeoning career as a bouncer, his involvement in the criminal aspects of the early 'rave' scene and subsequently to his rise to power as one of the most feared and respected criminals in the country. The story concludes with three members of his firm being brutally murdered in the infamous shot-gun slaying at Rettenden..
must see film
