So we are seeking a right back hopefully before the window shuts. That obviously means Glen Johnson is some time off returning and Martin Kelly still injured. Nicky Shorey and Alan Hutton are up for loan do you think we should take up the opportunity and bring one in?
think nicky shorey is a left back but not sure - dont rate hutton to be honest but i dont see us getting any last minute transfers. rafa isnt harry redknapp and we hope he wont just panic-buy for the sake of it
You may be right, I'm not sure if Shorey can play either side. I thought Martin Kelly was promising against Lyon and we haven't seen him since. Why has the squad suffered so badly with injuries this season. I like hutton as he is a good attacking full back and would do a turn for us.
shorey is 100% left back and i think he on loan 2 notts forest at the min 4rm villa.. would be a decent player 2 have in the squad.. always taught hutton would be a decent signin 4 us. but the like of spurs & villa dnt want give us any of there players to help us secure 4th
Not being smart here but why would you suggest a player (Nicky Shorey) that you clearly know nothing about?
Had his transfer arranged in the Feb and arrived as soon as the German season ended so if anything he was the complete opposite to a panic buy.

After impressing in his 4,5 years at Xanthi, he attracted the interest from the "big three" of Greece, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens. Eventually he joined Olympiakos on a 5 year deal on 1 January 2007. [edit] Olympiacos He moved to Olympiacos in January 2007 and scored his first goal with Olympiacos against PAOK on 21 January 2007. He scored his first European goal for Olympiacos in the UEFA Cup 2008/09 1st round 5-0 home leg win against FC Nordsjælland and scored another one against Herta Berlin 4-0 in the group stage. A hard full back known for his exceptional physical strength, endurance and technique, he has been an important part of the Greek national team and the Olympiacos team since joining the club. He has been monitored by Juventus, Bayern, AS Monaco, Rangers, Newcastle[1] , Atletico Madrid and other clubs, but all offers for the player were rejected by Olympiacos. However, after both sides agreed on and signed a contract extension in the summer of 2009, Torosidis now has a fixed transfer fee of EUR 7.000.000 and media reports state that if he continues to perform as he does now, a club willing to pay that sum after the 2010 World Cup will be easily found and he will transfer to a bigger club. [edit] Liverpool It was reported on Greek radio on February 1st 2010 that he was to join English Premier League club Liverpool. [edit] International career [edit] Greece Torosidis made his international debut in a UEFA Euro 2008 qualifier against Turkey and became Greece's first choice left-back after the retirement of Takis Fyssas, while playing regularly on the right side at his club. Following the qualifiers, Torosidis was selected in the Greek squad for Euro 2008. He scored his first international goal in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg.
No other than it being on the bbc discussion site from someone claiming it came from 606. Indications on what was taken from wikipedia suggest it has been heard on Greek radio. His name has been mentioned before.
Suely it should be a left back we are looking? We have 5 players at least who can rb whereas left back we have Insua and injury prone Aurelio
I would have Shorey as our first choice left back, if remember correctly he has alot off pace remember him doing brilliant for Reading, been bit frezzed out over at Villa but would be a good option for us, I don't know why in the hell we need another right back.
Well he is not a right back and seeing as your very good at pointing out the mistakes of others I just taught I would highlight that fact. He is gone on loan to Fulham. He cost £1m less than Dossena yet MON gets away scot free he is also shite.
we've kept 5 clean sheets in the last 6 i think without the need for a new right back - johnson will be back in a matter of weeks hopefully and be reinstated as our 1st choice right back - cant understand the necessity for it when as another post said we only have insua (who is not good) and the perpetually injured aurelio at left back...and we've struggled to score more than 2 goals a game for ages so an attacker maybe more pertinent...i dunnom, can never work it out whats happening. our defense is solid enough lately, why enter a new parameter into the equation
Bobby Benitez thanks for your words of wisdom. It's a game of opinions and I'm not going to argue with yours. What mistakes are tyou talking about? I am very critical of the team when they are poor and don't generally get involved in slanging matches on this site.
Reports in Greece suggest that Greek international and Olympiacos Vasilis Torosidis is on his way to Liverpool to have a medical before finalising a move to the red half of Merseyside. Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has been tracking the 24-year-old since injury news to Glenn Johnson and has reportedly bagged his man. Soitrios Kyrgiakos who signed for Liverpool in the summer is keen for his Greek colleague to join him at Anfield. Meanwhile the Anfield outfit have confirmed that teenager Vincent Weijl has completed a loan move to Dutch second tier side Helmond Sport. The 19-year-old is thought to have shunned several top flight teams in the Eredivisie to make the switch to Helmond and will hope to impress Rafael Benitez before returning to Liverpool in the summer.
