    According to Domnic King,
Rafa will end the transfer window by looking for a right back

    http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/live...-back-in-the-transfer-window-100252-25702255/

I would have thought a striker would be top of his agenda

This doesn't make any sense at all. Degen and Kelly can play there if needs be and Johnson should hopefully be back in a matter of weeks.

I think Rafa has a fullback fetish!

I'm surprised we've not signed Huntelaar. Having said that our major problem is in the creativity department, namely Masch & Lucas in the centre and Kuyt on the right. A truely woeful midfield, almost relegation quality. Can't create, can't pass, can't hold on to the ball. I don't think any quality of striker would have scored against Wolves the other night such was the lack of quality of service.

    Couldn't agree more mate.
But I don't think we need to sign a central mid fielder as bad as we need a striker. There was a 20 million man on the bench. Gerrard can drop back if needed

Deegan is very injury prone himself - that and he gets sent off too!!

There are no decent 'get-able' right fulls out there at the moment. We'd be better off getting cover for Agger, Skertel and Carra who, in fairness, are not having good seasons at all, and have Carra as emergancy right full.

He must be thinking he's sorted up front. That would explain why he hasn't bought a striker in previous transfer windows

I know it won't happen, given he had a falling out with Rafa, but what about Steve Finnan ?

True he seems to have had a lot of injury problems since leaving Liverpool, but I think
he would probably be available on a free from Portsmouth.

Have you watched Finnan play for Pompey this season. He has been very poor, I know he's playing in a poxy team but he doesn't look anything like the player we had a few seasons ago.

if anything i think a bloody left back would be more pertinent - insua is terrible defensive and age is no defence here i'm afraid, and aurelio is persistently injured. but yeah, i think right back is prob our best covered position of all so it would be enigmatic to say the least to get another one. but its all conjecture at teh moment...so lets not let this thread turn into another one to chastise the gaffer's transfers when there's nothing concrete yet

Agree with most of whats been said already-a right back should definitely not be an immediate concern in the short term.

    However,when Johnson is out injured:

Carra is very limited as a full back and we saw his pace exposed again tuesday night.A grand stop-gap for the time being but not in 2 years time.

I've always maintained Degen was quite useful going forward-he was just poor at defending.Rafa doesn't seem to trust him either-preferring to use him on the right wing. Also injury prone.

Derby won't make it imo.Hope he proves me wrong but seems unlikely.

Kelly impressed at right back against Lyon but he is naturally a centre half and will hopefully take over that role from Carra.

So while a striker should definitely be the priority for this time being, maybe a solid, long term understudy to Johnson needs to be addressed in the summer.

Maybe there is no decent striker availabele? Jones was his first target but that seems to have died and AC have said Huntelaar isn't leaving. to spend the money he has so it doesnt get taken off him when the window closes cause if he doesn't spend it in Jan I wprised if he still had it in the summer

Right back cover : Degan, Carra, Kelly, Derby can do a job there, even Kuyt said he'll slot in there if he had to!

Striker cover : Kuyt, Ngog, eh........

I think we're not in good shape up front. No offense to either of the lads.
Pacheco just has to be given a go. I still strongly disagree with Nemeth going on loan and I said it at the start of the season

Fair point about Finnan but he is vastly experienced while clearly the likes of Kelly and Darby are not. The fact that he was part of the Liverpool back four for so many years would also be a major plus point. Like I said I don't see it happening but I reckon we could do a lot worse.

Certainly the left back situation is a real concern though. Insua does look like he's lost
his way a bit. The lack of activity in this transfer window right across the board is clearly an indication of where the game is at currently in terms of finance.

Speaking of left backs did anyone see Jim Beglin on LFC TV during the week ? I thought he came across really well. Great player who achieved so much in such a short period of time, European Cup Final at 21, Double winner at 22, and then that dreadful broken leg at Everton at 23. A really good guy too by all accounts.

    Not from what I've heard.
I wouldn’t repeat it on here, but let's just say it would raise quite a few eyebrows for the conduct of a Professional footballer.

How about this for 3 or 4 weeks?

    Reina

    Gerrard Carra Agger Insua
    Maxi Masch Lucas Riera
    Aquilani
    Kuyt

Let Stevie gain his fitness from right back. Aint nobody gonna skin him and attacking wise he'd do ok. Might knock him out os his sulk too.

Best right back we've had since Stevie Nichol for half an hour in Istanbul.
