On the radio the other day ... a fella phoned in and suggested Ranieri should be considered. While he's currently employed with Juventus, I think he's a good manager and would certainly be worth a mention with the above, infact ahead of some of them. I've a view that any manager who is currently out of work (eh, we'll lets say for more than 2-3 months), is not worth consideration, as if he's not good enough for another team, he certainly ain't good enough for us (no matter how cheap the FAI can get him !) From the list above mate, I'd comment as follows: Graeme Souness - does not have a good track record. He's been through too many teams and achieved nothing. David O'Leary - dodgy history as a manager. Sure, we all think of the glory days at Leeds, but they were short lived and followed by a complete disaster at the club. No other history worthy of mention imho. John Aldridge- sure, he's a legend, but sadly his CV does not give confidence as a football manager I'm afraid. Leave him is superstar status and don't discredit him like the FAI did to Steo. Steve Coppell- Who ? Paul Jewell- Who ? Jose Mourinho- great idea, but I'm not convinced it's a high enough profile position for this lad. Also, I suspect his pay requirements would be a lot more than the FAI are prepared to spend .. regardlesss of the fact that the FAI has more dosh now than it's had in years, perhaps ever !
There is an article in today's Times about Houllier getting the job. He has only recently taken up a coveted role of technical director (beating current manager Domenech to the job) and it would seem he would be reluctant to leave the job since he has started a 5-10 year project. Those was also a quote from McAteer saying that although Houllier would tactically be spot on when it comes to managing, his man management skills would let him down somewhat. If Houllier did get the nod I would worry that he'd concentrate too much on the tactical side of things and leave the Irish spirit and comradere to one side - something that has always been a part of our success in the past.
Looking at what is out there at the moment, i would be happy with Houlier...Jose will never happen...but I wouldn't mind Jol and chris Heuton also...
i wouldn't go for anyone on that list! maybe troussier or at least someone with international experience
Hi Paddyb I must admit, your right there mate, we do need someone with high level / international experience. While I'd heard mention of Houlier, I don't think he's the right man for us really.
I'd go for Stephen Stauton. He is the most capped ever Ireland player, does not have club management experience, but hey neither did Van Basten or Klinsmann and look how they got on. He would get the passion and pride back in Irish Jersey.
aldo is defo not taking it, we asked him on sat, and he said "Its not for him" so houllier would be alright, bring in thommo with him ???
yeah aldo said he had no interest cant see thommo coming if houllier gets the nod he didnt get a post with lyon
Has Ged actually hinted that he might be interested or is it all just rumour? Personally I think he'd do a great job
Personally I think Eamon Dunphy is the man for the job He's priced at 500/1! This is a funny clip of Mario Rosenstock as Stan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnO1QWHg460
