just heard from my uncle living in belgium there that this chap is on the verge of signing for us.... its in all the papers over there....attacking midfielder...anyone know anything bout him?
Standard Liege striker Milan Jovanovic has been the subject of prolonged speculation regarding his future in Belgium, with clubs such as AC Milan, Everton and Aston Villa all monitoring the striker’s form. He recently admitted that Liverpool are very much interested in his services. Jovanovic confirmed, “News that I have already said yes to AC Milan are not correct,†Jovanovic said. “I am still waiting, I haven’t decided. Also because AC Milan are not the only club interested in me. There is also Liverpool and another big European club. I repeat – my options are still very open.†He is available on a free transfer at the end of the season and can currently sign a pre-contract agreement with a club, but what do we know about Milan Jovanovic? And why are the aforementioned clubs interested in the Serbian international? Starting off his career in 1999 with Serbian side Vojvodina, he managed 10 goals in 43 games and his performances caught the eye of Shakhtar Donetsk who purchased the player in 2003. This was not a move that worked out for the big Serbian as He soon picked up a serious injury and was out for almost a year, he managed only 6 games during his time in Ukraine before being shipped off to Lokomotiv Moscow. Injury again hampered his settling in at the club and he played even less, only 3 times. But he did win the Russian League in 2004 while at Lokomotiv, so it wasn’t a complete disaster. Once recovered from injury he failed to break into the Lokomotiv first team, so was transferred to Belgian club Standard Liege during 2006. It was in Belgium that his career finally took off. Scoring 24 goals in his first season with Standard he has become a vital cog in the Liege machine over the last 6 years, winning the Belgian championship in 2008 and 2009. Voted Footballer of the Year in 2008, he is known as ‘the snake’ in Belgium because of his slalom runs between defenders, speed and acceleration. More recently he won the 2009 Golden Shoe award in Belgium as well. Possessing great technique, he was also the second leading passer during the 2006/07 season. He is known to be somewhat of a free-kick specialist, and he has been Liege’s top goal-scorer for the past three seasons. He is renowned for his fiery temper, so prospective clubs better watch out as he is not one to hold his tongue, of Everton he said, “Everton aren’t a big club. That club I have turned down already,†and don’t expect him to join a French team as he, “hates all French clubs.†He also fell out with the President of Standard Liege after he refused Jovanovic a transfer last season. You will be able to see him in action for Serbia in the World Cup and judge for yourself whether you think he will be a success in the Premier League. He played against us twice, he is shite imo.
No no no no. I can't bear any more cheap foreign imports. I don't remember him when we played them so he didn't have a big impact on me! I don't think there is a quality striker available in this window and a panic buy will leave us with more dead wood. I sooner see any cash we have spent on Victor Moses or Adam Johnson from the Championship. They are both midfielders but will be big stars and will be a creative edge.
im sick of those cheap foreign imports too,i mean what have the likes of sami hypia, garcia, cesc, yorke, kranjar, baros, niemi, clichy ever brought to the premiership
Hold on a minute Rafa bought none of them bar Garcia. Rafa has on the whole made some gaffs in the transfer market when spending around the £5m mark. I'm not saying there aren't bargains to be had but I don't see them in Belguim!
When did he play v us twice .... In the champions league 2008 qualifiers he missed the first leg and came on in the 2ND leg with 4 Min's to go ..
Sami Hyppia?? What drugs are you on? He`s been one of the best centre backs ever to play for the reds never mind the last ten years. The best bit of business done by Ged imo. Yorke was class in his prime too and is that Cesc Fabregas your talking about or am i mistaken?
I honestly don't know enough about this guy but I clearly remember the outcry on here when we were buying Benayoun. I was delighted but there was about 5 pages of "he's not good enough for Liverpool". It's just a rumour but having said that we have to realise what budget we have and what we can do with that. I won't shoot a guy down just because he's not a "name" player. I'm not sure too many people can honestly give an informed opinion on how good or otherwise this guy is though.
Honestly cant judge if he is any good .. haven't seen him play ..... just when you said shite twice against us ..... i though you were thinking of somebody else ... Just think to make a call on a player you need to know the player quite well and have seen him play at least 10-20 times ... just imo ?
I agree with this and if we were to sign him ahead of ac milan im sure our scouts and those of milan would have done just that, if you've barely seen him play I don't think it's fair to call him either shit or brilliant Defour has been bigged up plenty on these boards but it was this guy that won player of the year
Do you honestly think Dossena,Vorinon,Babel or even Aquilani were scouted 10 or 20 times? No chance, a good scout like me only needs 2 or 3 games
if dossena and voronin were scouted 20 times and we still bought 'em on is recommendation - shoot that scout
