Well the FAI has pulled off a bit of a coup, a new manager and Brazil in the first game. Its sure to draw a huge crowd. They will probably bundle it with some other country, heard they are lining up Italy and France for May also....

I would imagine that whoever was on the list for tickets in the Croke Park games so far will be getting first offers, then you might see something like 10k going on general sale.

The last time we played Brazil all terrace stands were open meaning some size of a crowd at Landsdowne. Anyone know if this will apply to Hill 16? Would result in and 80,000+ crowd for the game if its allowed.

There's no reason why not as all seaters are only required for competitive games. Lets just hope Micky Mouse isn't in charge to ruin the atmosphere.

Dont think terraces will be in use for Brazil game as report in Irish Times on Friday says that the Hill will be seated for Brazil and also for the following three rugby games.http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/sport/2007/1109/1194549954591.html

Not a bad line up. I wonder will the new manager see Kilbane as a permanent fixture in the full back position. Nice to see Duff back in the team again also, hopefully he can re-kindle some of the form of old though I realise that is asking alot considering the injuries he's had over the past few years.

Also, can anyone clarify for me what the hell Givens is doing taking charge of the senior team this week, when the team he is supposed to be managing (under 21's) have a competitive game in Southampton tonight.

I hope we can find another Left back as Kilbane there is a big liablity in long term. God loves a trier however we are in in trouble if Kilbane is in first XI for WC qualifying.

Sean McCaffery is looking after the U21s, in my opinion Givens is loving the exposure the whole manager charade is giving him.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with Givens loving the exposure there mate. Sean McCaffery is doing a top notch job at under age level, but its not up to him to have to step up to under 21 level when Givens decides he'd love a bit of the media limelight.

Some might call me crazy, but I think the managerial selection process has been delayed deliberately so Givens could get a big scalp by managing against the Brazilian team. Even the FAI are getting a little bit bother about how long the selection process has been going on for!

Well I heard :D that Don Howe and Givens want Vegtables because they have a chance of a coaching job if he gets it, Givens would keep the Under 21 job and Howe would be on the backroom staff.

Brady found out he was not going to get the top job so got in touch with Trappatoni's people, who got in touch with Delany's people who got in touch with my people:D:D. anyway if Trap takes the job, Brady will be on his staff...

Heading in myself, got a freebie in the Premium. First international in along time, gave up going towards the end of the Charlton era, too many fair weather supporters jumping on the bandwagon (I was there in the Giles and Eoin Hand days). Ironic I'm one of them now in the Premium level. Wish I was on the hill:rolleyes:

Just back from the game ..

First things first, I was in Cusack Stand - Upper (Section 710 / Row E) ... there were a couple of lads opposite the steps on the same row, in LFC jackets, was it any of you lot ?

- I was intending to say Hi at the end of the match, give IrishKop a quick plug, but by the time I got up of my seat (I always wait until the final whistle at a game) ... you were gone so if its lads off this site, sorry fellas catcha again ! ;)

Now the game ...

Glad I went, while it was pretty boring in the first half it was good to see some effort made by the Irish lads to pass the ball and keep in on the ground a bit ... more work to be done here, but nice to see them starting to try and work togeather a bit.

Duff was poor in the first half, to the extent I was ready to sub him and bring on Hunt .. regardless of the fact that I appreciate Duff needs to get match fit after being out for a good period of time etc. Mind you, he managed to come to life from about the 60th minute and had a reasonably OK last 30mins ( alongside Hunt who came on as a sub for Doyle - I think ? ), Keane who could have gotten lucky and scored etc. Carsley probably deserves a mention for having a bit of a go, along with a few others - on average, I'd give the players a 6 for performance across the team though.

The game overall was slow, typlical friendly etc. When I saw Anderson come on as a sub for Brazil, I expected to see more of Brazil control the centre of the pitch, but I think he was minding himself for the Mancs etc.

- I reckon if we had a decent manager in place (no offence to our stand in here btw) on a long term basis with a bit of life and good experience behind him we could do better, although at least I came away tonight thinking the worst is over (eh, I hope ;))

Little can be taken out of the game. It is a friendly, where the result doesn't matter. Kerr and Staunton started out by winning friendlies, which didn't get us very far in the long run. Better teams than us lose to Brazil, so no harm done.

One negative was the way the goal was conceded, on the break. With Trap in charge, that wouldn't happen. It's good that it happens now, rather than in the autumn.

Well another friendly, another damp squib. They really are just a money making exercise, it was bloody freezing. I thought we were ok however Brazil rarely got out of second gear. Their fullbacks were constantly pushing on though and Brazil had some classy performers. Gilberto seemed to control the game, I never see him pinging the ball about like that in Premiership.

I thought McGeady and Duff showed the odd glimpse however our centre backs resorted to the hoof approach to Doyle too often. The two Brazil centre halfs were about 6 3 each so he not much hope.

If we can get our first XI fully fit (Ireland and two Reids to come back) we have a decent chance, although lacking in full back areas. If we get injuries to key men, Given, Dunne, Duff and Keane, then we are screwed. The game passed Miller and Potter by.

All in all if we can get Trappatoni in and get a fully fit squad together we have a chance of qualifying.

I was at the game last night and I thought duff was piss poor for the first 65mins. How does Don Givens justify playing Duff on the right and Mcgeady on the left when quite clearly, they had to cut back inside to cross a ball the two times that Duff tried to use his right foot the ball ended up in the Davin End. I thought in the first half the only thing we had going for us on the right wing was Kelly who( unlike the fool in the independent who only gave him a 4 in the ratings) I thought was probably Irelands best player apart from Keane who at last looks like he wants to play for Ireland again after a few dodgy performances in the qualifiers. I also thought miller did ok before being forced off

The best thing by far was the Brazilian fans they really know how to support their team never shut up al night and the music they played was brilliant they only let themselves down by a small corner of them making noise and blowing whistles during the moments silence at the start.

The women footballers looked well too

True. I was in the upper tier of the Cusack stand next to them and they were at it for 90mins straight with the drums. They were cheering and screaming pretty much anytime one of the Brazil players did more or less anything, my only problem with them was that when the Ireland chants went up they started booing which I cant remember having seen happen before and there was no need for it.

In contrast, I found myself sitting amongst a few beauts last night. A few select quotes shouted from around me last night were:
"Who are ya, who are ya..."
"F**k off back to Scotland ya useless so and so" (last bit was edited there ;) )

"Robbie Keane your f*****g shite", followed two minutes later by "Unlucky Robbie, great ball", followed five minutes later by "F**k off back to Spurs ya waster!". I should add this all came from the gob of one punter.

Another muppet felt the need to stand up and wave two fingers in a very animated fashion at the Brazilians when Fabiano brought out a great save from Given.

Finally, are we ever going to see a football international in Croke Park again without that annoying incessant Mexican wave.

Overall it was one of the worst Ireland games I've been too - not for the performance on the pitch but for the lack of an atmostphere from the home fans, and having the privilege of sitting next to a crew of muppets!

the first attempts at mexican wave were after bout 20 mins. Funniest thing I heard was on the way out over the Tannoy 'The FAI would like thank all our loyal supporters....' cue some random punter shoutin '...for wasting another 55 euro for no entertainment'.

I have been to nearly every home friendly and they all the same, I only go because I have to keep going to get my seat for competitive games.

In my opinion, International Friendlies should be scrapped. There should be international breaks for squad get togethers, so the manager work with the players.

In fairness last night we did not see the 8 or 9 subs in the second half.

Typical crap friendly game. After the first 20 minutes I remembered why I stopped going for the last few years.

Went to the bar in Premium level at half time and didn't bother leaving it for the second half.

As someone previously said what was Givens thinking about with Duff and McGeady playing on the wrong flanks. In the first half I remember Duff putting 4 or 5 crosses behind using his right foot.
