Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is preparing to make a down payment to secure the services of Uruguayan starlet Nicolas Lodeiro for next season.
The 20 year-old has been dubbed the 'Uruguayan Messi' due to his excellent close control, ability to glide past defenders and his small stature. Lodeiro is currently playing at Nacional, where he burst onto the scene last season, helping his side to the semi-final of the Copa Libertadores, following outstanding performances for the Uruguay under-20 team.
He was handed his senior international debut against Costa Rica in the World Cup play-offs and is very much in line to be selected by coach Oscar Tabarez for this summer's tournament in South Africa.
Well aware that Lodeiro could be one of the stars of the World Cup, Benitez is ready to make a £1million down payment to ensure that he plays at Liverpool next season. This would allow the youngster to remain with his club and play in the upcoming Copa Libertadores, gaining more important experience before joining Liverpool.
Liverpool have been tracking Lodeiro for the past year or so, but have been spurred into action following interest from both Barcelona and Napoli during the transfer window.
