Thought we should have made an attempt to sign him as part of the Keane deal last January, and then again in the summer. He's banging them in at Sunderland, what price would he be available for?? Has pace, can score a goal, and is umpteen times better than our reserve strikers. Swap deal + cash maybe??? Thoughts....
he's decent enough, but we should be aiming higher (even though we have no money!) Fat nose would NEVER sell him to us I always felt we should have bought Defoe before he left for P.Mouth & again before he went back to spurs...
Defoe would have been a good buy, but he's too in love with Redknapp to have not joined him at Spurs. I agree that we should be aiming higher, but we know the issues with our club right now, and going for the likes of Aguero/Silva is not a realistic option right now. That cnut Bruce would be a big stunbling block alright, but I would think that if Bent had the chance to sign for us, he'd jump at it. He's in very good scoring form right now and is showing what he's capable of at a ok-ish Sunderland side. We know the areas we need to address, and the forward line is top priority with Nando's injuries. We need someone to come in who wont break the bank, but can score goals. Are there any other options apart from that Palace lad we've been linked with and the return of Emile Heskey?
i disagree with the point tat bent would jump at the opportunity 2 come 2 us.. why would he do tat?? he is first choice striker at sunderland and bangin in the goals.. y would he want 2 come 2 a team a few points ahead of sunderland in the league table and sit on the bench wen nando is fit..
Wouldn't mind having him at Liverpool always can give you goals, but he would be mad to come with World Cup in summer and him just sitting on bench while we continue to just play 1 upfront, I would just love for us to buy few good strikers and play 2 upfront
We have no money and common sense will tell you his not going to sit on the bench in a World Cup year.
I said this in another thread recently that I don't think rafa will play 2 strikers. Why would a striker wanna sign for us knowing he's gonna be Torres's backup and nothing more? And if a striker would be happy to be Torres's backup then what sort of ambition is that for a footballer? The only type of player who can fill role is an emerging youth player like Ngog, Pacheco etc
Thats true. Why waste money when we have them. Ngog is playing very well at the mo and Pacheco should be given more of a chance as well.
Agreed... N'Gog is showing signs of becoming a good striker, and Pacheco simply has to be in the match-day squads, as of yesterday, he's that good. Rafa's formation doesn't allow 2 central strikers, granted, but he plays a striker on the right... The 4-2-3-1 formation Rafa utilises is a very good one against team with the same/better quality players in them, but I'd love it if he changed tact for the majority of Prem games against teams who wouldn't live with us normally. A 4-3-1-2 formation would be ideal if Rafa brought in another quality striker, even the quality of Darren Bent. This formation would accomadate all our top players, and would be an attack-minded option to boot. Pepe Johnson ... Carra ... Agger ... Aurelio Lucas ... Aquilani ... Mash Gerrard Torres ... A.N. Other Even if Rafa decided to put Kuyt/N'gog/Pacheco beside Torres we'd be a much different proposition. As it is, Nando is getting frustrated because for most of this season he's been isolated up top by himself, and most defences are coping with him a little easier this year. The main problem is the lack of creativity behind him in the 4-2-3-1 formation. With a variation of this, switching to 4-3-1-2, Nando can find more space with a partner in tandem, and Gerrard and Aquilani are both capable of supplying the forward line. Johnson and Aurelio, as we know like to get forward alot and would offer natural width, and with both Mash & Lucas in the team, there would be ample cover, neither would need to leave their respective defensive positions. Aquilani would be the creative lynchpin in the center of midfield and Stevie would be the link between midfield and the forward line. Imagine another quality forward in the team.... Imagine defences running scared seeing Nando, Gerrard and another striker dragging them everywhere with Aquilani picking the passes/shooting!! IF we had another experienced quality forward that is familiar playing in a 2-pronged attack, we'd be devastating against the lesser teams. Against the big boys, Rafa could revert to type... Pepe Johnson ... Carra ... Agger ... Aurelio Aquilani ... Mash Kuyt .............................. Yossi Gerrard Torres
When he was banging them in for Charlton he went to Spurs, had a total disaster there towards the end and now is coming good at Sunderland. I dont think he is a big club striker, I dont rate him. I was delighted he didnt come when we were linked with him before he went to Spurs and I wouldnt want him to come now. I know people will say sure who else is there etc etc but thats just my opinion, I just dont rate Darren Bent & wouldnt want to see him in a Liverpool shirt.
Defnately..English players are always way over priced and and an in form Darren Bent would cost a fortune
Cried at Spurs for not been the top striker, starts mouthing off on Twitter, I would give him a pass to be honest and you'd be looking 15 million atleast better options out there
Strikers are judged on their goals and he is scoring goals. Amazing how the great Harry R got no criticism for the way he treated and spoke openly in the press about the lad. Imagine a certain Spanish waiter speaking like that or treating a player that way!!!!
Also funny how there is no talk either of how the Ireland captain is been "treated" at the minute, because alot of people had alot to say when our manager left him on the bench !
Seem to remember a lot of people having a lot to say when he was played on the left wing by our manager as well something a certain Harry R has done this season as well
Bent has his eye on the world cup and he is top dog up front at Sunderland. If he was at Liverpool Rafa wouldnt start him ahead of Torres (or turn him into a right winger - controversal of me ) besides there is no way Sunderland would let him go. Im sure he would be loyal to them also, they saved his ass in the Summer when 'Arry made it clear he didnt want him
