Pompey put up a good fight against Chelsea during the week but hopefully the match took more out of their legs than ours. I think we'll see Torres start but not sure about Aqua. I think Rafa doesn't think he's able for the full game but I'd rather him to start and come off at half time/after 60 minutes than to be brought on. A win here and we can hopefully gain a bit of momentum over Christmas.

Think back to wins will do ... with a clean sheet { 2-0} last time we won with a clatter of goals 6-0 look what happened this season and same in 2007 6-0 then 5 draws from 7 games, same last season 5-1 then 3 draws ...

Really would be a bad time for us to have a game called off but at the same time if the conditions are bad I would have to fancy that it suits portsmouth a lot more than it suits us! Don't really mind what way the team line out, would obviously like Torrres start but if not I still think we should win the game. Ngog is probably mad for games at the moment and scoring another one at the weekend would get a lot of people talkinga bout this kid! Lucas should be nice and fresh after getting a bit of a rest during the week but Masch is possibly in need of a break, especially with the way the games are going to come over the christmas period! Aquilani is probably still not able for 90 minutes (especially on a horrible pitch in awful weather conditions). Would have not faith in Aurelio and Lucas in the middle together so Masch will prob have to man up!!

Is Reira still injured? I'd like to see Stevie back in the centre and Yossi playing in between him and Torres, where he does most damage in my opinion, think playing him wide limits him a little and less running at players in the box than if he was in the middle - the last time he played in the middle as far as I remember was Burnley, and he'd a cracking game there!!

Obviously that leaves us short on the left but we could use Aurelio / Insua to cover the left flank..

Liverpool have been boosted by the return of both Glen Johnson and Ryan Babel to the squad for this weekend's trip to Portsmouth.


Babel has been sidelined with an ankle injury sustained against Manchester City last month while Johnson missed the midweek victory over Wigan with a minor knock.

Both players have passed fitness tests in time to take their place in the squad for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Fratton Park.

No Aquilani, doesn't even make the bench. The biggest waste of £20m since Robbie Keane. You can say what you want about him but he's been a flop for many different reasons. Yes we haven't seen much of him but if he was fit, good for it and in form he'd play regardless of the opposition or pitch. Aquilani is clearly a gifted player who could bring so much to this club. But in a season when we needed to build on a sucessful last term we needed to bring in quality to push us on. Because of injury he was never going to make an impact for some months. First of all, only the most blinkered of fans would argue that it wasn't a deserved straight red. He could have done an enormous amount of damage to Ben Haim if he'd connected properly. The intent was evident.

Johnson's "clearance" for the goal was very, very poor. Granted he was jumping from a standing position to clear the ball, but it was lazy and it seemed like he was completely unaware of his surroundings.

Agger's miss could be crucial. At first I thought the sun was in his eyes, but having seen the replay, it's clear that it was just a bad miss.

I don't actually blame Dossena: You have to bear in mind that he is a full-back. How you evaluate him as a full-back is one thing, but there is no way that he should be playing as a left midfielder. Few full-backs make accomplished wingers, and even then, I would suggest it would only come if the full-back began his career in a more of an attacking position. It's clear that Dossena thinks like a defender, makes runs like a defender, and passes like a defender. So having him on the left side of midfield is completely unbalancing the team. Add that to the that that Insua is having a very average game, and you've completely given up your left side in terms of offering any sort of attacking threat. Gerrard's had to move over there a couple of times just to force the issue, because nothing else was happening.

I really don't know what substitutions he can make now. We all are very aware that Benitez is a cautious manager, and so I don't think we should expect anything drastic at half-time. Gerrard will drop back to the centre and it may just be Torres on his own up top. He might bring Dossena off and bring Benayoun on, but it wouldn't surprise me if he waited until the 60 minute mark for that.

All in all, lads, I think if you're being honest, irrelevant of the red card, Portsmouth are full value for their lead. I really hope for a vast improvement in the second half...

Worst performance of the Rafa era IMO. Complaining about the kick off time before hand, picked an inexcusable choice at left wing, started shit and progressively got worse. Bar Reina and Torres I would say no other player gave anything like 100%. Johnson played like a puff, Agger played like he was Messi, Insua put in his worst performance in a red shirt ( time to pull him out of the firing line before we destroy the young lad), Masch was a disgrace (although I would sympathize with him because Ben Haim beat 4 players :eek: before he got to Masch and was taking the piss), Gerrard looked like he has had enough, Kuyt was awful, Benni was shit when he came on, Carra was poor although probably our 3rd best player, Torres tried but got shocking service, Lucas was piss poor, Aurelio was piss poor too.

Why Rafa felt the need to subject Spearing to 10 minutes at the end is a mystery, felt really sorry for Spearing, 1 of the few who probably gives a shit and he is treated like that. Is it me or does he only throw him on when your losing?

It's impossible that he can't see it. No way so many can see that the mid field pair doesn't work and Rafa can't. But why he's persisted with it week in week out is crazy and unexcusable. It was blatant after the first game of the season that this was a huge problem. To be honest I think it's the biggest reason why we're were we are. I think he should have dropped Stevie back to the centre and played Yossi/Pacheco off the striker, or something to that effect. Mascherano is injured/suspended for the Wolves game, but if he wasn't, I have no doubt in my mind he'd play the 2 defensive mids against Wolves

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez offered a bizarre response to defeat at Portsmouth by repeating referee Lee Mason had a "perfect" game at Fratton Park.

After losing 2-0 through goals by Nadir Belhadj and Frederic Piquionne, Benitez's reaction had the hallmarks of his rant against Sir Alex Ferguson at the start of the year when he continually spoke of "facts".

This time he used the word "perfect" six times to describe Mason, who dismissed Javier Mascherano just before the hour mark for a foul on Pompey centre-back Tal Ben Haim.

Benitez has history with Mason after the Lancashire official dismissed two Liverpool players during a defeat to Fulham in October.

"I have seen the replay and for me it is not a sending off but anyway, the referee was perfect, he didn't make any mistake," Benitez said.

"Now Javier is injured and I will say again the referee didn't make any mistakes. He was perfect. I have seen the replay, for me it is not a sending off, but anyway, perfect."

Benitez had Fernando Torres back in the team after resting him in midweek but the Spain striker failed to make an impact and in the second half appeared to aim an elbow at Ben Haim.

"The referee was perfect so Torres didn't have any problems," Benitez said.

Belhadj opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, then Piquionne added the second eight minutes before the final whistle.

"When we lose it's always disappointing," Benitez said. "But the first half we had plenty of possession and we were controlling the game.

"Then we conceded a goal after making a mistake and after the sending off changed the game."
