The Liverpool centre-back and vice-captain, Jamie Carragher, has called on the team to pull together, improve results and "pray to God that at the end of the season there will be something worthwhile for what we've gone through".

The Reds have won just three of their last 15 games, one of those in the Champions League against Debrecen. Their latest disappointment came when they turned a 1-0 half-time lead into a 2-1 home defeat to Arsenal yesterday.

"We started off well in the first half and should have had a penalty but you have to give credit to Arsenal, they're a top side," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo. "The manner of the goals we conceded were unfortunate but other than them scoring, I can't remember them having too much else, which is why it is so hard to take. We can't look for excuses. That's the way it is at top-level football – we know that any little thing can get pounced on and that's happening at the moment.

"For the quality of the players and the stature of the club, we should be doing better. Statistics can change quickly and we have got to do that. It's tough at the moment but part of playing for Liverpool is having big character. That's what we need now. Between now and May it is going to be a grind at times but we have got to stick together, get through it and, as I'm doing every night, pray to God that at the end of the season there will be something worthwhile for what we've gone through, because it has been tough.

"I pray to God we win the FA Cup or the Europa League and we get in the top four, dust ourselves down at the end of the season and say 'It hasn't been so bad in the end', but at this moment it is tough."

Liverpool's next game is at home to Wigan on Wednesday, and Carragher says it is imperative that their improvement begins immediately. "Wigan is a massive game for us," he said. "I've tried too many times down the years trying to work things out, so there's no point looking further ahead than that.

"We'll just try and get three points on Wednesday and then move on to Portsmouth. We've got to look at ourselves and realise that we've got to do much better."

Unfortunate is probably the wrong word but it was a 1 in a million shot.

Supportin a team means goin through thick and thin with them. This is quite obviously a sh*i patch. I for one will be praying for something other than trophies this season.

Yanks out. Money in and a sh*t patch that doesn't carry on too long.

He's gotten "lucky" 5 times in 2 games against us...

Its interesting hearing Jamie say we were "unfortunate" in the way we've conceded goals, in my opinion, we've handed most of 'em on a plate to the opposition!!

Thats about the sum of it really ...

    Pray / Improve for Wednesday.

I reckon with the night thats in it, a lot of the past legends about etc, Liverpool will be a very special place and the buzz thats created, will result in us winning 5-0 or something equally impressive.

That'll be the start of our season turning around for us, I think (pray ;))

All well & good saying this to the papers or on the club site but this needs to be said in the dressing room or the training ground.

Do the players still do the huddle before the start of the game?
I can't remember for the life of me.

I dont like the sound of what Jamie is saying as in the way he is saying it. Praying to god is desperation and publicly saying so is even more desperation. Jamie is taking the situation badly and what we need now are leaders and cool heads to work on the confidence which is clearly lacking (if this is the vice-captain). We need motivation, work on what we are good at, think of the positives, etc, etc, not desperation.

I think Carra will get back into a stronger frame of mind and in time for the Wigan match, I hope so anyway. And a win will help all our players.

I'd like to see the players huddle before a match, huddle before each half, and huddle after each goal. We need to have conviction, team work, and a do or die attitude, and players need to give their all to play for our teammates. Gerrard needs to be a captain. Maybe he needs to give someone a bollicking. Maybe even Jamie. Fans play their part as the 12th man. They need to lift the roof at Anfield, lift the players, etc.

Lets not dwell on the Arsenal match, could have, should have, etc. It was a close match, instead of getting 1 pt we got 0, so no big deal. The Wigan match and the two after ARE much bigger. And we have the manpower, the skills, the players with the attributes, etc, to win these matches. With the right attitude, they could win it at a canter.

Lets stick behind the team, the players, the manager, etc and just go and do it.

Carra needs to forget about trophies, the FA Cup, the Europa League and stick with the battle that is the race for 4th. Sure it would be nice to get a couple of trophies, one and I would be more than happy from our current position. Thinking about the end of the season already and praying for it, that is just not a good way to be Jamie .......

    That's so true,.

As I said somewhere else, keep supporting the team whether they win or lose, and bring on the next game,.
