Valencia to snap up Ayestaran

Rafa Benitez’s right hand man Pako Ayestaran is on the verge of a return to Valencia as assistant boss to Ronald Koeman.

Liverpool recently released a statement confirming Ayestaran’s departure from the club, breaking a lengthy successful partnership with Benitez.

The duo lifted the Liga title, The Uefa Cup and The Champions League during their years at Valencia and Liverpool, while promotion with Tenerife also marks Ayestaran’s curriculum vitae.

Valencia confirmed they are working to bring the highly popular coach back to El Mestalla, and the Che are currently talking with Liverpool.

Valencia Sporting director Miguel Angel Ruiz confirmed talks with Ayestaran were in progress, while a club spokesman said: "We are ready to negotiate a compensation package with Liverpool."

Valencia fans recently chanted ‘Bring back Benitez’ at one of their home league matches, and the acquisition of Ayestaran is sure to smooth the settling-in period for new boss Koeman.

Good luck to the little man! but I must say! sad to see him go

Haven't been the same since the little fella left and could be a big mistake bt Rafa, what must have went on for such a succesful partnership to go to break up the way it did?

In fairness, I heard that the reason Rafa fell out with Pako is that he found out Pako had been quietly touting himself around Spain for a manager's job. If his head and heart wasn't in the job in Liverpool then we're better off that he's gone.

Not true mate! He only started "as you put it" quietly touting himself around Spain for a manager's job" after the working partnership had broke down. Matter of fact! Pako had turned down an approach from another club only in the summer.

Their was an number of reasons why they fell-out

When the partnership did break down! is open to debate! There was story's going around that they were at it for months.

We'll probably never know the full reason but to be sure considering the guys had been friends and colleagues for long something big had to have gone on for the relationship to fall apart so badly.

I'd be 99% certain Pako didn't pimp himself in Spain until after the breakdown of the relationship, you just wouldnt do that behind someones back who you have worked with so long and has always been loyal to you. That said, if, and I say if, he did do anything behind Rafas back I could fully understand Rafa sending him packing that would be a betrayal that could never be recovered from.
