Double standards again in Wexford. Getting screwed over by the Wexford County Council. http://www.wexfordyouthsfc.ie/news.html#news1 I have sent a comment to An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern about the situation. The chances are it won't happen but a message needs to be sent. Even if your clubs are from all over the country. Wexford Youths needs your help. http://www.taoiseach.gov.ie/index.asp?locID=172&docID=-1
Hey mate, From reading that, would I be right in saying that the floodlights were put up without planning permission in the first place?
Ye, after reading over the local papers this morning and reading over the statement on the web site it seems Mick screwed himself over....Still at that the GAA get preference over Soccer in the County!!!
Well they seem to have a chip on their shoulder regarding him anyway being a builder and a real maverick buts thats how he actually got things done, by being a rebel and speaking his mind. He's certainly an exception to the norm. The fact that the council view the whole project as commercial not social and are looking for rates is abs scandalous. They really do live in their own little conservative narrow minded world. A few of my mates use the facilities there (ironically many are on a Council 6 aside team) and they are long overdue. My nephew trains there with his GAA team, that knocked me back and goes to show how much it was needed and how truly genuine and open Mick is about the whole project being for the whole community. Mick made a spot on comment about the government being great of promoting economic development but extremely poor on the social community front. That we are the poorest in Europe in that aspect. Thats something I couldn't agree with more as anybody would who has a social conscience (unfortunately thats not too trendy these days, tis all about the mighty buck it seems to me). His article in the local paper last week spells out the whole situation and that he hired consultants to give recommendations of remedies to be put into place and he would implement these, costing 50k, if the council indicated these were appropriate but obviously wouldn't just assume they'd do the trick. But still the council statement stated that remedies weren't implemented and then personally slurred him stating they'd have no confidence that they would be given this particular individuals past record. Anybody smell a vendetta ? Are comments like that commonplace ! Bertie planned to build a big fcuk off stadium off the M50, Croker dominates the North Dublin skyline, Lansdowne will go ahead regardless of local objections but hey you can't have lights on the only independent (of GAA) modern sports facility built in Wexford in.......well ever. Its pathetic and I hope the local disgust at this wins out but as ever these morons who for instance take every free parking spot in the town slap a hourly charge on it and then boast about how many extra car spaces they're provided (allied to their extorniate rates pushing many business out of the town) are accountable to nobody, least the people. EDIT : Just realised most of what I pointed out is in that link. The council would be better off discussing the remedies with him rather than slagging him off, assuming they won't be implemented and showing themselves up to be the complete dickheads everybody in Wexford already knows that they are. I honestly think what he's trying to do is beyond their terms of reference. They can understand someone trying to do some social good rather than just lining his own pockets when ironically that is meant to be a big part of their own role ! He'll never make a penny from this "venture" but its still seen as commerical. It should be getting lotto money and grants for God's sake not be charged rates by the people's "gaurdians".
You know yourself WexRed our county has been crying out for a Senior soccer team for years and went it finally arrives our fellow Wexfordians in the County Council screw the one over. Only for him we wouldn't have got a team....
Believe me these fellas aren't our fellow Wexfordians. Not in heart anyway. They live in their own little world in which they can't be fired and don't have to perform or be accountable to anyone. Most go in straight from school and honestly do not know what the real world is like. They simply don't care what people think about what they do or more to the point don't do. The only real mechanism there is the pressure that can be exerted on local politicians who in turn want to look good by kicking some ass. But gallingly its still unelected officials that wield the most power................and they know it !
He played for Adamstown in Wexford at underage level played against him a few times but he wasn't the star, Eric Bradley was but you could see he was a talent. He got snapped up by St. Pat's when Dolan was in charge and then he brought him to Cork when he became manager there....Mick Wallace is his agent.
Is he still his agent ? Yeah he was under Mick for Wexford underage teams which Mick did amazingly well with. Some of the stats around it knock you back like Wexford having the biggest underage system outside of Dublin and of course their record against the Eircom League select team (the best youngsters from all the EL clubs). They all used to hit a brick wall locally then and have to ship off to England or EL clubs or often the GAA county team. A local senior outlet was long overdue and everybody knew the support would be there for it (except in the council obviously.......a lot of which is culturally GAA centric incidentally). Funny how many people think Doyle, Hunt, Long, O'Shea, Murphy etc. are all FROM Cork. Besides those who played for Cork City I think when English lads hear a non-Dublin accent on TV they assume its Cork !
I'm going to Adamstown this weekend for a LAN party LOL Anyways, back on topic. Are they actually going to get them to remove the floodlights? Do the residents actually mind them being there when switched on? I'm at work and don't have time to read it all
