View Full Version : Everton v Liverpool

I just can't talk about another woeful display any more and like the last 11 games I want to forget and move on. I am just wondering where the next good performance is coming from and will we be rewarded with a result? Well no better place to start than at Goodison Park? Sounds like a sentence used a lot in the last load of weeks.
Now Rafa has no excuse for taking his eye off the PL and protecting players for Europe! He played a weakened team in the Carling Cup and we bowed out of that aswell so maybe we need to start playing our best 11 every week!
Now lets get going against Everton and play the big guns. I gree that we need to play two holding midfielders against Everton but believe we should slip aqilani into the starting line up IF FIT!!! and play Kuyt and Gerrard off him with Torres up front IF FIT!!! Kuyt should be dropped on recent performances but his work rate should see him get a start against everton. Aquilani needs a central role and Gerrard down the right, swapping Kuyt to the left. It's getting to the stage now were we just need to fit in all our best players wherever?
I see no change in the formation and would be happy to see a back four of Aurelio LB, Carra CB, Agger CB, Johnson RB in front of Reina. Mascherano and Lucas in the holding midfield with Gerrard RM, Aquilani CM and Kuyt LM with Torres up front. The problem we have had is scoring goals when we are on top and that has lacked simply because of a lack of quality up front. Ngog will never be good enough and Riera, babel, Aurelio just don't do it down the left. hopefully we can muster some passion and a performance for this one?

Would like to see the following but of course Aquilani won't even play even know match practise has been good for last following weeks got another 30 seconds tonight aswell. Hopefully Torres be fit it not Stick DNog up there did well tonight, and same with Riera unsure what the story is about his fitness, obviously I am leaving Kuyt out which will never happen when Rafa is picking the team, expect to see Kuyt,Lucas and Insua involved as always

Aurelio has to start left back. Agger and Carra at CB. Would love to see Aquilani in there from the start, although Lucas and Masherano are certain to start. If Nando starts, then I think they will be scared. If not, I can see it being a struggle to get chances put away.

That would be my first choice team also but as mentioned Dirk will always start + that traffic cone Lucas too!!I think he should start Aquaman rather than bringing him on and if he tires then bring Lucas on to replace him.Its the only way he will get fit.

I agree with your comment about aqulani but I think he's still not comfortable enough and rafa doesn't want to risk him getting a set back, that would be a disaster!!!
I also think Lucas has stood up and been counted in our big games this year, Im not saying he's good enough to be in our team but can't fault the lad for his hard work this year and his improvement from last year...

Thats a super team... fully agree with this one... just thinking could a swap in positions be made with Gerrard and Aquilani.
I know Gerrard is world class in behind Torres...but I think Aquilani could fit in that roll also and move Gerrard a little deeper which would give us grit and flare in mid field?

If Aquilani is on the bench he is fit to play otherwise he shouldnt be there so there is no excuse whatsoever for not playing him now. Start with him and see how he goes and take him off if he gets tired.
Im dreading this game against the bitters they are in an even worse run of form and injuries than us so anything less than 3 points against them is unthinkable yet I can see it happening.

Lads, starting Aquilani at Goodison would be absolute madness-the ****s would kick lumps out of him and he doesnt have the match sharpness for lasting so long in a game of that tempo.

I have to agree with Ninja on this one... It would be like fecking him into the fires of hell.... if he was not give a run agains the minnos last night wer he would have had time and space on the ball he has no chance of getting a run aginst the blues.... it will be a kicking match... might actuall suit Machs and Lucas to get stuck in! am going over to see it so hope its the match our season turns round on!

Aquilani perfect game was the Birmingham game I thought and then last night again a team off Debrecen standard how can he not play at least 30 minutes. He has been in full training now for a month and played 15 mins in resevers around a month ago and month on still now ready, How's 30 seconds on a pitch going to help

Time to take the shackles off, The Prem MUST be our priority for the rest of the season.
Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Aurelio
Mash Gerrard
Yossi ...... Aquilani ...... Riera
Torres
I'd love to see this starting line-up against the bitters, we almost have our full team ready to play again, and there are some players who deserve to be dropped, Kuyt, Insua, Skrtel... all 3 have been awful this term.
If Aquaman was to start, which is highly unlikely, but if he was to start, I'd play him in the hole in place of Gerrard.
Lucas has little or no creativity, and playing him with Mash, while playing gerrard in an advanced role is not getting the best from our team right now.
Drop SG back into the engine room where he can put his foot on the ball, and ditcate play, he's as good a passer of the ball as anyone and should have no problem there.
Yossi on the right, as I think he'd hold width more as he's right footed, when he's on the left he tends to cut in alot, which over the course of 90 minutes gets easy for a defender to defend against, it makes the play narrow.
Also, if ya watch Yossi, he tends to do his best work on the right side of the pitch, having being started from the left.
Riera on the left... The jury is still out, he's either very good or very bad imo, but he can do a whole sight better than Kuyt on the wing at this moment.
If Nando is fit and raring to go, I can only see him thriving off the midfield 5...
But will they take to the pitch together??? Thats the question.
With the recent bad form, and being knocked outta comps recently, it wont surprise alot of us if Rafa goes defensive again, hoping to catch the bitters on the break.. I for one, want us to take the game to them Sunday.
Rafa may well play the 3 that need a rest, and Aquaman may get 45 seconds if he's lucky...
Its away, granted, but its a must-win, simple as.
Play the best team available and take the game to them, let them worry about us.

Have to agree with your selection. Kyut and Insua have seriously underperformed for most of the season and don't deserve to start imo. Hope Aqua gets the nod to start but I won't hold my breath. Is Torres defo going to start??

I'm sorry lads but Aquilani, Yossi and Riera isn't going to cut it in a derby match where they will be kicked around the place. You need players like Dirk for games like this despite his temporary loss of form. I would go Masch and Lucas, Dirk Yossi and Stevie, hopefully Nando up top. To put Aquilani into this from the start would be suicide for the lad! We have waited 3 months, whats another week or so.

These games need grafters and players who'll get stuck in.Riera is most definitely not one of those.Dirk is,and I'd have him in there despite his lack of form so far.

I think its fairly plain sailing to say that Aquaman wont start, Im merely looking at this as a what if...
Lucas will play, but I dont agree with Kuyt starting.
Hopefully Nando is ready to play, but Im fearing he wont be able to make it back so quickly.
Which will probably see the side on the weekend, as per Rafa, as...
Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Aurelio
Mash Lucas
Kuyt......Gerrard......Yossi
N'Gog.
I'd definitely have Gerrard back in CM however, if Nando aint playing.
Without FT's movement and intelligent football, Gerrard is too isolated in this role without some sort of creative nous behind him, both lucas & Mash lack in this area severly, which has been one of our major problems this season.
Ah, whatever team starts, one thing is for certain, a win is a must.

Is right. But Rafa won't listen or care about these moans from fans who know better, he is wily enough to know that this game is not the right one to bed him in. It will be a battle and who knows we may need a bit of class off the bench last twenty to swing the tie. Absolutely cant stand not beating this lot of pretenders, buzzing for this now, Come on you mighty reds!

This will be a typical blood and thunder highly paced game with little or no time on the ball and it would be daft to start Aquilani in such a game. I understand most fans desperation to see him start a game in a red jersey but surely now with our title challenge over, seeing him sit out another game won't make a masive difference. Given his past injury record I fully support his gradual introduction into the team. Hopefully he can be held back for the last 30 minutes of the derby when bodies will inevitably tire and the game gets stretched.
Kuyt has been poor this season but in a game like this he will die for the cause and should be perservered with, while Insua needs time out of the team as he has looked increasingly outpaced and positionally naive.
Leaving aside our injury crisis the biggest worry is our ball retention and more particularly a lack of a midfield general. Our centre-backs rarely use the ball constructively, even Agger in recent times is looking for the eye of a needle 80 yard Hollywood pass when a simple ball is often the better option. Carra was never the best passer in his prime but the number of hopeful hoofs have increased even more recently. Masch and Lucas are not dominant playmakers in midfield and the loss of Alonso can't be overstated enough (for Madrid tonight in the CL he had 50 passes in the first half alone, 51 of which were forward).
For this game I would go:
........................Reina..................... .
Johnson.....Carra......Agger.....Aurelio
kuyt......Lucas.......Masch......Benayoun
......................Gerrard...................
......................Torres (if fit)...........
Medium to long term I think our central midfield is the area that needs most addressing, however unfortunately the dire financial position we are in will dictate a lot of these decisions.

Torres though, has made real progress in his recovery from an abdominal injury, and has trained for much of this week while his team-mates have been away in Hungary, and Benitez is now quietly confident he will have his main striking option back for the absolutely crucial showdown on Sunday.

Looking forward to Sunday. If a fully fit reds team hits Woodison, then they can steamroller them. I dont give two shits about man on man, zonal marking or whatever. Somebody, anybody pick up that puke Cahill at Set Pieces. Saha will also be a danger at them
Hopefully spank them shitters and sit down to watch Arsenal and Chelsea to a draw.

I just think circumstances that he'd like to introduce him softly havent materialised due to poxy injuries during games and possibly midfield not being the thing tht we needed to change (wings and up front) in games we were chasing.
Also mightnt have been the wisest thing to stick him on that race track in Debrecen after coming back from an ankle injury.
Hope we see him Sunday, legendary status when he scores the winner!

Thats exactly why I see Aquilani starting on Sunday and no one will be expecting it and he will assume Gollum will be plotting a way of handling Masch/Lucas in CM and not someone who can pick a pass and break from midfield.
Remember one of Rafas trademarks is not being able to guess what team he will put out.

The ball will be secondary on Sunday for large parts, particularly in early stages. I think we'll have to match them, like for like and can't see Masch, Lucas, Kuyt, Aurelio starting. A moment of class will win it and hopefully Gerard will provide that. Ngog will get a kicking and I'd have feared for him last year but this year he's looking more likely to withstand.

Fernando Torres will face a late fitness test ahead of Sunday's 212th Merseyside derby.
The striker has not featured since our trip to Lyon on November 4 following a groin problem which originated on international duty.
Having gone through two to three weeks of recuperation, Torres is nearing fitness.
"We will check him tomorrow. He's training well, he's been with the physios and we'll check after the training session," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv.
Elsewhere, Benitez has just two other injury doubts for the trip to Goodison.
He said: "Ryan Babel will not be available and Martin Kelly is still training with the physios.

If its true then that doesn't surprise me one bit. The story is he needs 3 weeks rest, if thats what it takes then let him have it and come back 100% in December. It wasn't all that long ago we were worried he could be out for months if he had to go under the knife. Besides, that lot are shite anyway :D

Lads we should be beating that team with ease but the wat things have gone you just don't know.If we can keep a clean sheet for once we'll win but I have serious doubts about that.
Stevie should be 100% now so lets get stuck in and beat the blue n white sh1te!!!

From this moment onwards, can the REAL Liverpool stand up and be counted!!
No better way to kick off the season than with a win against these shower of fookers.
Torres, or no Torres, we should be beating these 2moro.

Just giving the ball away too easily at the min resulting in the defence being under pretty constant pressure. We're not even setting up right for throwins. Put a man in front of Fellaini, standing on his toes etc. Nobody standing behind him from our team will beat him in the air.

No confidence throughout the team at all. Couldn't care less about the performance today as long as we hold on to win. Get Aquilani and Nando fully fit in the next week or two and we can kick on. It's all about 3 points today and couldn't care less if they have 50 chances as long as we win!! Have to say Ngog doing his job today - we need more from Stevie and Dirk. This game proves the point Ive been making about dropping Gerrard back to CM when Nando isnt playing.
Our forwards do not possess the footballing nous for clever movement, or taking up positions that allow a player like Gerrard to get free.
He's too isolated in this area today, again...
+ he looks as interested in the game as my dead grandmother does.
Its a horrible performance tbh, we have absolutely no-one to put their foot on the ball in the central area's and its killing us.
Rafa needs to show his worth here.. make a change that will give US control of tha ball, not these 2nd rate whores!!

Good to see Aquaman left on the bench again. Why in gods name was 20 million spent on him again?
Reina was immense. What a double save.Thought Masher,Carragher and Agger were outstanding too and thought Reira brought a better shape to the team when he came on and did well.
Hopefully we can kick on now but Auqaman has to start playing cause we can't hold onto the ball in midfield!!
Sorry for being critical as I'm delighted we won!! :D

Great result and exactly what the doctor ordered!!
The performance wasn't great, it was held together by Mash, who my my MOTM, Carra, who had his best game in a long time, and Pepe, who made a world class double save.
Gerrard, anonymous for most of the game is clearly not back to full fitness, there were times he didnt look interested, but he still remains a magnificent player, as his drive into the box to latch onto Yobo's error demonstrated. It was Gerrards determination that set that goal up.
Kuyt also wasn't at the races today, hardly gave a pass to feet, and did nothing of note on the wing. But thats what happens when a central striker is played out wide.
Stick him in the role he loves playing however, and reap the rewards. He won the initial header and when Riera shot towards goal, Kuyt's natural strikers instinct was enough to see hi int he right area to tap in. Game over at this point.
Johnson defensively did well, as did Agger and Insua to a degree.
Insua and Aurelio just doesnt seem to work on the left imo, and when Riera came on, there was a clear difference in the direction the ball was moving.. forward!
Yossi was dangerous when he came on, but he's grown into his role brillianty the last 10 months or so, so to say I was delighted to see him come on would have been an understated to say the least.
I thought N'gog done ok today, for the most part he held up the ball and brought others into the game when he could. He's learning as he goes, and its great to see him doing well. Will he becoma a genuine option from the bench when Torres is playing week in, week out?? I dunno, but this game time he's seeing will be very beneficial to him.
Mascherano was immense today in a game when we needed to stand up and be counted.
Its games like these when Mash comes into his own, an all action display and he was everywhere, and I was delighted to see him have a part to play in the first goal, as much as it will probs go down as an OG.
He was the outstanding player on the pitch, closely followed by Carra, who had to deal with a couple of monsters, but did it well.
On another day, that overall performance we produced today would not be enough to win a game, but I'll settle for 3 pts in a derby and say no more.
2 away wins, 2 clean sheets is alot better than what we've been served so far this season, so its time to build on this and get a long run going.
Hopefully our run of many injuries can be halted after Torres and Aquilani get into the team and lets hope for some stabilty in team selection from here on out.
We've had a very bad run, and its results like these that can bolster a group of players.
Blackburn, I believe, are next up for us, and we can turn them over too, the next game cant come quick enough!!!
Reina made the difference at a vital time in the game not a great display from the team but hopefully that gives the push we need now to crack on.

Just back from watching the game in the Cuckoo's Nest. We were very lucky today but luck is something we have not had all season. Ngog was very poor AGAIN. Pepe was in fine form and was our man of the match. Not one Everton jersey in the pub today but when they scored their disallowed goals they where louder than us. Can't believe there was more of them in the nest than Liverpool fans. Just show's, they are all plastic supporters covered up so they can sit there all day after the match :)

Thought the performance midweek was crap this was every bit as bad but will take the three points, alround we were poor against a team that gave the best impression of wimbledon that i have seen in a long time.Again stevie just going through the motions, agger and carra played well against the aerial onslaught from wimbledon, lucas and tommy battled hard and refused to be intimidated which was a bonus but again to many sideways and backwards passing and not enough creativity. We did improve when dirk went to his best position at centre forward and used his experience well and the cameo from yossi was also a plus.Always thought that the buenoses were very close to the manure and today proved that there supporters are every bit as bad as the team from salfords as they emptied the shack in double quick time.Still despite my criticism three valuable points in the bag which i will take and hope we can improve our performance in the next game which wont be easy against blackburn

Well well well i do love some smash and grab football..Its a long time since ive seen us do it..
In all honestly we played sh*t...Everton were the better team, but in football if you dont take your chance you dont win football matchs.
I think we got a huge slice of luck today which is a fcuking change as things have been going totally against us lately, injuries and other factors.
The first being maschers goal..Or og...But ive been watching him recently and ive noticed that every game he likes to have a little pop from outside the box so maybe he is being encouraged to shoot more and today it paid off.
The second bit of luck was Pepe..Some great saves from him and his reaction time is excellent...
The second goal came just at the right time as it killed the game off...
Ngog held the ball up ok today but he gave it away too alot but it was a big game for him to play in, and it will only help him in the long run.
the performance didnt matter really today as we got the 3 points and hopfully this will give the boys abit more confidence as today they looked like they didnt have any confidence about them, giving the ball away alot and cheaply too..
But 3 points is 3 points and you dont get anything extra for playing sexy football.

Not sure about Kuyt up top on his own, doesnt have the pace to run onto a pass and doesnt have the touch to beat his man, Ngog has both of those. Obviously Ngog will need more support than he had today but if we can get Aqulaini in the team and get our wingers up more in support of the front man Ngog will do fine. Hes no Torres but an able replacement and he is only 20. He needs these game to bring him on, physically he has come on leaps and bounds this season.

N'Gog has a trick, and he's a bit of pace about him.
In the dying embers of a game, like today when N'Gog came off, Kuyt is good for aboput 20 minutes in and around the box, he somehow always manages to get a goal, yet is constantly thrown to the right wing.
But from the off, Kuyt wouldnt have the abilities to trouble rival CB's if he was in a lone role trying to hold up the ball imo. He's more physical than N'Gog, but N'gog is learning fast, this is encouraging imo.

I agree that today probably wasn't the time to introduce Aquaman from the start as the Bluenoses are dirt bags + would have crippled him.
I think we need him in ASAP alongside Masch.Something has just not been right this season and its mainly down to the lack of creativity from the middle. We NEED him in there instead of Lucas, no question at all there.

Poor Performance? So what....Everton were on top for a lot but we rode our luck and it's about time. Winning the derby is everything.
We can worry about performances when we get our cofidence back. How do you get your confidence back?? By winning games - thats how.
You can talk about Everton missing some sitters but for me Insua's was the best chance of the game. We also had a great shout for a pen.
It's great to end such a dark week for the club on a high. Serious room for improvement but getting points on the board is all that matters.
To dis the performance isn't right for me. Remember last season we totally outplayed them at Anfield and they hit us with a late sucker punch goal - putting a serious dent on our title charge. WINNING UGLY aint a bad thing.

29-11-2009, 08:51 PM
Firstly what a massive result, to beat the blue noses when everybody was waiting for us to fall!!! However for many different reasons we weren't great today. I think we defended poorly and gave them chance after chance, lady luck shone today. This was a derby so it never was going to be one for the flair players so we stood up stood toe to toe and beat Everton at their own game.
Although I was disappointed with both our offensive side and defensive side I think we deserved the result. it really is a hard one to explain. Reina was superb today and saved us when we most needed him. I feel in similar situations this season he has been too easily beaten but today he was never going to be beaten. I think Insua looked much more comfortable and even looked a goal threat. Johnson was getting forward well and looked fit.
Where we won the game was in the middle of the park. Mascherano and Lucas busied themselves in the middle of the park and when on the ball kept it moving and without got in their faces. Lucas has been criticised often this term but could not be faulted today, he won the battle.
I was very disappointed with our front 4 for 70mins. Aurelio is just not an offensive player in that formation, Kuyt could no nothing right and Gerrard was quiet. Ngog does not suit a lone role, he simply can hold the ball and bring in the midfield. He has too many tricks and does too much on the ball often losing it and putting us in trouble. I suppose he will get better in time.
When Ngog came off and Kuyt went up front and Benayoun and Riera came on and changed the way the game was going. Yes Everton were chasing the game but we were able to get on the ball, hold it and create chances. The second goal killed them and for the last 15mins Kuyt was immense. He chased everything down and it just shows what a goal does to the confidence.
All in all Everton spluttered and tried on their physical game by kicking everything that moved. We stayed together as a unit and even when we weren't playing well we kept going. Ultimately you get what you deserve in the end and we won. We will have better games but this result after the Debrecen game was just what was needed.Maybe it is the game that will push us on?
We managed to save Benayoun, Riera for only 15mins. Torres wasn't needed and the extra week will help his recovery. Aquilani was saved from being kicked from pillar to post and will be better suited to Blackburn away next week if needed. I have had a grin on my face ever since and am brimming with pride after a difficult week.
Well done lads, well done Rafa and well done the travelling support. I can buy a paper tomorrow and watch match of the day tonight not often I could do that on a Sunday night/Monday morning. Superbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb!!!

Hope we try and get Fellaini elbow on Lucas brought up in front of the FA ..
Finally a hang over worth having.
BIG three points, alomost forgot what it felt like to win a Premier league game.
Lots to complain about but I wont fact is we won, lets keep it going.

Not a great a performance but 3 points is what we needed and 3 points is what we got. We need to get 3 points again next week to build on this tough and continue to build the confidence.
Great saves by Pepe and delighted for Dirk that he got his goal! Tought Gerrard looked a bit tired out there yesterday but I suppose that is to be expected just back from Injuury

While the match was on yesterday 3 points was all that mattered to put us back in the European spots but its difficult to take any comfort from the performance. That was minus Torres our full strength team and you cant make excuses saying so-and-so isnt fully fit, when that was a makeshift bitter team with players coming back with even less game time than our lads and were it not for us having finally some luck and the bitters seemingly not knowing where our goal was things could have gone very wrong for us.
Sure I agree you can get confidence from a win but we were a million times better than that against the mancs and it counted for nothing so as usual I will reserve the 'our season starts now' optimism until at least after the gooners game.
As for Aquaman he really has to be let loose at this stage, this is the EPL if you play in central midfield you are going to get kicked about so there is no point wrapping him up anymore, chances are he wont see the pitch until we play the gooners in 2 weeks seeing how they dont tackle but he has to get used it so I think personally he should be sent out against Blackburn next week and take a few kicks to get used to it as it doesnt get any easier especially with the winter upon us.

Not a great performance but will take anything against that lot. Would imagine Aqualani will start against Fiorentina and not Blackburn. Masch played well as did Lucas. Wonder if they had a word before to gee themselves up seen as the manager doesn't seem to be doing anything these days!
Bringing on Yossi and Riera seemed to help us i think though maybe the second goal has blinded me to that. Anyway well done to Sammy or the players (whichever of the two made that move).

Difficult to see that happening, he definately caught him but from the replay Afroman didn't do that sneaky quick glace most players do when they intend to clobber a player, but I could be wrong though

Yeah thought he looked has if he had something else on his mind yesterday. Maybe the CL exit was still playing on his mind.

Everton 0 – Liverpool 2
- Mascherano/Yobo (og) 12
- Kuyt 80
http://LiverpoolRedspider.wordpress.com/
Liverpool came into the Merseyside derby needing a win as much as Everton. Liverpool had a reasonably strong team out, the most notable player missing being Torres of course, and Aurelio was in ahead of Benayoun. The team lined out 4-2-3-1 as follows:
------------- Reina -------------
Johnson - Carra - Agger - Insua
------ Lucas --- Masch ---------
Kuyt ----- Gerrard ----- Aurelio
------------ N’Gog -------------
It was a steady game for Liverpool in many respects. Liverpool looked the better on the ball for most of the match, yet they couldn’t really penetrate in the final 3rd and the moves would invariably break down when N’Gog was involved. How Stevie G misses Torres, and you could see this in his body language.
Johnson was lively down the right flank, Masch and Lucas were busy mopping up things, and Stevie was thinking of how to get through the Everton defence yet not doing it. Aurelio was not as an attacking an option as we would have needed and whilst himself and Insua did ok down the left they rarely created any danger. Kuyt as ever was was workhorse.
It was Liverpool who got the early goal from one of Mascherano’s shots which usually go close but over. Yobo’s deflection was enough to wrong foot Howard and give Liverpool the lead. This helped the team settle I thought and Liverpool were a bit better in the back than in recent games. Although I will quickly add they had some woeful mishaps in defence later on.
It was Reina who saved Liverpool when making a great double save in the 2nd half. That would have made it 1-1. But where was the Liverpool defence as Everton got off a point blank header and a point blank shot? Again woeful defending from a dead-ball situation. Riera looked good when he came on and got in more shots (2) in 12 minutes than N’Gog had (1 attempt) in his 75. Benayoun came on for him and Liverpool looked better with no real centre stiker on the pitch – it looked as if Stevie G was playing that role and it was his pass back to Riera that made the shot, that was saved by Howard that was tucked away by Kuyt.
Overall, it was not a great game. But it was lashing outside so it made for reasonable entertainment. Liverpool only had 9 attempts on goal to their 12. So overall, Everton could perhaps feel a bit hard done by especially with that double-save chance. Liverpool can be relieved to get the 3 pts really and it will help the race for 4th. With that in mind it was good to see that Spurs and Villa drew and that Man City drew again.
Meanwhile at the top Chelsea march on with an emphatic win at Arsenal. They are clear favourites now and its between them and Man Utd.
Back to us, Aquilani didn’t get a run out and for a 20 million signing with January around the corner it was clearly a bet that so far hasn’t come off. I’m surprised Rafa is not giving him more run-out time especially when we are 2-0 up and with 10 mins to go. I would have though he should have brought on Aquilani instead of Benayoun despite Benni’s solid claim for being a starter. So far, I have not placed any credence that Aquilani will replace Alonso and ‘save our season’ as others had hoped he would have. I’m wondering now if Rafa is even more worried than I am, and the player hasn’t shown much in training and reserves either. His lack of match time is worrying.
Next up its Blackburn away and then Arsenal at home. 6 pts from these games would give us a solid footing for getting a top-4 finish. We have the capability but the Arsenal match will be more lively than this Everton one, I would imagine!

How did Moyes pay 15 million for Fellaini? Thug more interested in playing with his elbow than playing football. Imagine the press if Rafa had signed him:rolleyes:

They did! - my memory is a sieve. I was following their game from a distance on Sat seeing which permutation suited us best, etc, and a draw was probably the best outcome for us ... kind of.

Had a fiver on Kuyt to score first and Liverpool to win 2-0 at 40/1. Derby wins dont come any sweeter! (Own goals dont count for first goalscorer purposes!)

I take it you mean the one on Babel..??
If so, than alot of members on this site should be holding there hands up, sure Babel was only slaughtered for leaving the game after 15 minutes....
"He bottled it".. they said...
Anyway, both challenges should be punished, that wannabe globetrotter Fellaini is only a cnut.

just back from the weekend away at the match...sitting in the main stand for the match not ideal but great to experience the match at first hand... great result ... 3 points and run... rovers next week hope another 3 points.
Ngog I know was upfront alone but I think he was not much use.... seems to lack pace big question over this chap...hope Torres is back soon. Insua was dreadful... also looked so slow. Kuyt was no use on the wing.... took rafa an age to get yossi on - he had was warmed up ready to go on from 60min but rafa seemed to wait for an age to get him on the pitch..I was sitting the same side as the subs and didnt see aqua man warm up at all in the second half!
Cant complain after this one.... 3 point is 3 points... was not sexy however....
PS the our fans wer going crazy at 0-2 I wanted to be in among them...couldnt not even jump when we scored! I was jumpin inside!
