REDS TAKE 18-MAN SQUAD TO HUNGARY Rafael Benitez has taken an 18-man squad to Hungary for Liverpool's crunch Champions League tie with Debrecen. The squad that left Liverpool's John Lennon airport today is: Pepe Reina, Diego Cavalieri, Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, Emiliano Insua, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Andrea Dossena, Alberto Aquilani, Steven Gerrard, Yossi Benayoun, Javier Mascherano, Lucas Leiva, Jay Spearing, Dirk Kuyt, David Ngog. Ryan Babel has been left behind with a knee injury, while Agger has recovered in time from his concussion to make the trip.
ahh i was wondering there but it was his ankle he was checkin when he went down on saturday? anyway wonder will we see Aquilani start tomorrow? cant see agger starting anyway..could be carra at right back again with the greek in cb
I know they are supposed to be the whipping boys of the group, but they scored 5 goals in two legs against Fiorentina. I think we'll win but I'd be more worried that we don't beat them than worrying about the Lyon game the way things are at the minute. Johnson travelling hopefully means that he will start so I think it will be: ---------------------Reina------------------- Johnson-------Carra---Agger----------Aurelio --------------Masch--------Aquilani / Lucas-------- Kuyt----------------Gerrard------------Benny ---------------------N'Gog-------------------- Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Lucas / Aquilani, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Spearing, Insua EDIT: Also just read that Gerrard was struggling after the Man city game so maybe Aquilani will play instead of him.
I expect us to do the job in Hungary professionally, maybe not 4 goals like Fiorentina and Lyon put past them but a solid win. Let's hope things go our way in Florence.
Looking at that squad, the striking options are so limited its scary. A lot of mid table outfits have better options up front.
I got slated back in August after the spurs game for starting a thread about our squad been lightweight, be careful
a 1 - 0 for us and lyon to beat or draw with fiorentina would be absoulutely fantastic thats what i'am hoping and praying for tomorrow night
A great boost for us ahead of this game tomorrow, Fiorentina will be without both Adrian Mutu and Jovatic for their game tomorrow. Both have been excellent so far and will be a big goal threat missing for Fiorentina. I'm confident we can get a win tomorrow and at the very least Lyon are good enough to hold Fiorentina.
Fcuking brilliant news. Aquilani stars v Debrecen,Lyon get a draw in Florence and we knock out Fiorentina in one of "those" European nights to get rid of some of the doom and gloom
you have made me so happy now i really hope it works out now cause if it does it will be some night on the pints haha
with mutu and jovacic out im a lot more optimistic than i was a week ago.. this actually isnt too far from our reach even though most people out there think we are destined for the europa league. how many times have we succeeded when it seemed like all odds were against us?? come on lads!!!
On LFC channel as part of their usual programme LFC Now they showed a segment of a former trip by Liverpool football club to Budapest. It was interesting to see the footage of the club using Aer Lingus. I think the footage was of the 1967/68 Fairs cup played on 28/11/1967 against Ferencvaros. Liverpool Football Club always flew Aer Lingus at that time and i have seen Aer Lingus signed menus in the museum but also I know in a past programme (which I could not find tonight) it showed the team menu for a foreign trip and there was no pasta in sight but steak was definitely on the menu. How times have changed. Please correct me if I am wrong with my above assumptions based on the small bit of coversge.
