Liverpool are reported to be showing a strong interest in talented young Holland winger Eljero Elia. The 22-year-old only moved to Hamburg from FC Twente in his homeland in an £8.5million deal in the summer. But he has already been linked with a possible switch to the Premier League following a series of impressive displays for club and country. "There are a few English clubs sniffing around but he has only recently moved to Germany and is happy at Hamburg and playing very well," Elia's agent Klauss Vink told Sport.co.uk. "It is true when he does decide to move he would prefer his next move to be to English football, to a top club. "There is big interest from Liverpool but there are no concrete offers, just rumours."
Babel looked great on his youtube video aswell so I'm not getting too worked up about another young dutch starlet.
I was reading this earlier sounds like there's some interest alright. Strange he'd be going for a left winger though. I would have thought a striker would be top of his list
Looks to have a lot better feet and control than Babel. It's only a youtube clip of course. If Hamburg paid 8.5 million for him and he's since come to the attention of a lot of clubs we probably couldn't afford him anyway
The one thing he seemed to have on babel was that he played with his head up, judging by that youtube clip, but as you've said thats a dangerous thing to do
personally I think we need to start looking at players who can do it now and not need to settle into the english game....surely theres decent signings in the premier league who could offer better options without needing to settle....
looks decent the only difference with him and babel is he can dribble the ball when running with it and keep it close to his feet.. mayb a swap could be in place..
Liverpool agree €15m Elia deal Liverpool have kick-started their January shopping after agreeing terms to sign Hamburg midfielder Eljero Elia for €15 million. The Reds desperately need reinforcement after a disappointing first-half of the season which saw them end the year ninth in the Barclays Premier League. A lack of width on both wings has been a well documented problem at Anfield. And manager Roy Hodgson has pin-pointed the speedy Dutch international as the ideal man to remedy the problem. The 23-year-old signed for Hamburg from FC Twente in 2009 and impressed in his first season at the Bundesliga club. But he failed to maintain his form the following year and lost favour with coach Armin Veh as a result. According to Hamburg daily Hamburger Morgenpost, Elia is already on his way out of the club after agreeing personal terms with the Anfield club. The transfer fee is believed to be €15 million. http://www.espnstar.com/football/premier-league/news/detail/item555645/Liverpool-agree-%E2%82%AC15m-Elia-deal/
